:scared1::scared1::scared1:Do any of you remember a made for TV movie in the 70's called "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark"?

Tag line: Can you see them, Sally ... hiding in the shadows. They're alive, Sally. They want you to be one of them when the lights go out.

It was about a young couple who inherit an old mansion inhabited by small demon-like creatures who are determined to make the wife one of their own.

This movie scared me to death when I saw it in the 70's and now there is going to be remake coming out in 2011:scared1:

I never forget those little demons running around the house whispering "Saaallllyyyyy"

I found the DVD available in the Warner Brothers archive store....

I may need to order it and watch it again to get over how scared I was when I saw it in the 70's ;)

That was one of the 1st movies we rented when we got our 1st VCR years and years ago! It scared me, I was just a kid!

LOL- I think I was about 7 or 8 when I first saw it. I still fuss at my mom for letting me watch that darn thing:lmao: I do love scary movies but for some reason that one really freaked me out!!!

I actually own that movie on DVD.:rolleyes1

It scared me when I was little and every now & then I pop it in & watch it. I still love it!

I remember, I remember :scared1:

That movie scared me for weeks and weeks! The worst part was that I couldn't tell my mom I was scared because if I did she wouldn't let me watch anymore horror movies (which I loved), so I just had to cover my head with the sheets and be careful not to let my hand hang out of the bed :scared:

LOL- because of that movie I always had to have atleast a sheet covering me pulled all the way up to my neck so I could duck myhead real quick if I had too and I never ever let my hands hang over the side of the bed:scared1:

Me too:scared1: Can't wait to see the remake. Who's in it? It would be great to see Kim Darby in it somehow.

I don't see Kim's name listed on IMDB for the cast but it would be cool if she had some small roll or camo. The movie cast appears to include Katie Holmes, Guy Pierce, and Bailee Madison as Sally, she is very young. It looks like the story line is changed a bit....

"A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own."

Here is the IMDB page for the remake.....

Is this the one with the little voodoo doll that came to life? Or am I thinking of a different movie that traumatized me as a child?

No it is not that one but I remember that one too:scared1: - it was also a made for TV movie and it starred Karen Black.

It was Trilogy of Terror:scared1: and it was 3 different stories in one movie and one of them was with that voodoo doll that comes alive.

Here is the Imdb page for that one....

the doll..is that the one who has the little bracelet on, but if it comes off it comes alive? I'm just saying, but my dd has a dress up Dora that has sort of the same hair and she came with a little bracelet. I don't go to bed unless Dora has her bracelet on! :scared1:

I always think of that movie, but I don't remember the others. I need to make that Dora disappear!

OMG yes!!! I can remember the woman sitting on the couch indian style looking for that thing!! And my Dad could make the noise he made, and being the good father he was, would scare the bejeezus out of me every chance he got!! This movie probably fueled my fear of dolls.

And the Dora doll would be gone!!
When DD was a newborn, I had done all my Christmas shopping before she was born. I bought my nephew a Big Bird doll that talked. If you covered his eyes, and then uncovered them he said, "Peek a Boo" but in this slow creepy voice.

2 am, I stumble into the baby's room to get a diaper. Flip on the light, and BB says, "Peeeek A Boooo". I screamed, which went right through the monitor into our room. I scared the ka ka out of my X, the baby, and our dog, who ran through the house barking, looking for whomever was in the house.

Big Bird got shipped out the very next day.

Is there a scene where she is being dragged on the steps (inside of the house late at night)?

I think I remember it - would not mind watching it also to see if it still scares me too. You watch some old movies now (that we saw as children) - and scenes, etc. seem so fake now and sometimes silly but they stayed with us regardless.

Yes there is a scene when she was being dragged down the steps by those little ugly demons.

I plan to rewatch this one so I can get over my childhood fear of it:lmao:

You're braver than I am. I don't even watch Scooby Doo by myself!!

Weren't they her Grandparents? IIRC (and I may not, this was so long ago) she inherited the house. At the end when she's become one of them, she's heard talking to the other entities, hoping that someone else would come and open the fireplace which had been sealed again (with them inside). That's my memory of it.

As for Trilogy of Terror, that's another great childhood memory :scared:

Ah, those were the days!
