Over the next several days your local churches and charities will be collecting items to send to the hurricane vicitims.

After Hugo came ashore in Miami several years I ago I spent a weekend working as a volunteer at the fairgrounds where they sorted stuff and distributed it down to the victims. (After two nights I was a supervisor who knows how far I would have risen if I had stayed longer LOL!)

Anyway, I would like to strongly DISCOURAGE sending clothes. We had BUILDINGS just piled up (and this was just 5 days after the storm hit!) I have a feeling it never got to the victims. WE were trying to sort by gender/sex, but... even then the volume of stuff was overwhelming and it was just impossible to pull out the good useful stuff. Hurricane victims do NOT need long johns, winter coats, wool suits.

The biggest things they kept racing down to the victims were the following:

Baby supplies (diapers, food, forumla, pedalight)
Water
Feminine supplies
Cleaning supplies
Tools
Food supplies.

I know the people of the DIS are very generous and will donate so...

(After working in that operation, I know just send money!)
