Donating a wedding dress...need one?

I have a size 12/14 dress that I'd like to give away to one of the lovely Disers here. I wore it in 2002, and have since divorced. It has a baseball size stain on right bottom part of dress, it's discolored. The train has some staining as well, the bodice is beaded and gorgeous. You could always cut it apart to make a christening gown or the skirt to a bassinet, or a flower girl dress- or dye it and make a costume. I'd do all these great things but would rather not remember where the dress came from. I really hate to just throw it out or even donate it to good will. I would rather I knew someone had a purpose for it. I can post a picture or email one if someone is interested, just give me a shout!!
Thanks so much!
Michelle

Id be interested! My hubby and I are renewing our wedding vows in year, and I want a different dress.

You might want to post this on the wedding forum on the disboards if you do not find anyone here that needs/wants it. It's a very nice thing you are doing.

I also have one I am looking to donate. My daughter was a military bride and does not want to lug the gown around the country with her! If anyone is in the NE area and interested in a size 10, send me a private message with your email for photos.

To whomever gets the dress, if the dress is polyester, you can wash it in the bathtub! I washed mine (satin and tulle polyester) in the tub with a bit of woolite. I had some mud on the train (it poured on our wedding day) so I had to gently scrub that a bit, but it came out perfectly clean. (and it was 9 years after our wedding I finally got around to washing it, so some of the perspiration stains were quite yellow!) So those stains may come out! I've heard of some folks using oxyclean on stains on gowns too with much success.

As for the dress with the stain, I gave my wedding dress to friend to wear. It also had stain near the hem that was kind of large. We went to a fabric store and purchased a large lace "patch", I am not sure what they are called, that was similar to the bodice. This decorative patch was then sewn on the stain, and then we also put a few smaller lace pieces sprinkled around this larger one, as if it was meant to be a decorative element of the dress. We had these small pieces trail up one side of the dress Actually in the end, it made the dress much more prettier.. :hippie:
