DH and I decided to donate 2 nights (using our points) at a DVC resort for a fundraiser. The fundraiser is going to have a silent auction. I'm not sure how much information to give and whether to specify BCV (our home resort) or just say a DVC resort subject to availablity. Do I mention that this is a timeshare? I'm not sure how people will respond if after they win the auction, I tell them that there may not be availability where they want to stay for 7-11 months (especially since they would be paying for it now).

Has anyone done this before? Any tips? Thank you in advance!

I haven't done this - but I have seen it done... I didn't realize it was a DVC until much later. Anyway - the person that donated it actually had a weekend reserved - listed those dates as the vacation dates, but then placed a note there that said the dates could be changed subject to availability. May make your life a little easier to just reserve a weekend and see what happens. Good luck-

I agree that reserving first is likely best with the note that says it can be changed subject to availability and the expiration date. My guess is the OP didn't have weekend points in mind though. And remember it's not tax deductible.

I really appreciate your responses. I will call MS tomorrow and try to get a weekend in October so that I can mention the Food & Wine Festival and MNSSHP. Hmmmm--maybe I should bid on it!

The fundraiser is for DH's co-worker whose 15 year old nephew was recently diagnosed with a very rare cancer. He was perfectly healthy up until 6 months ago. His only alternatives will be experimental treatments which won't be covered by insurance. I can't imagine how awful it would be to have a sick child. I'm so thankful that mine (DS2 and DS3) are healthy so far. It makes their problems (dairy/nut allergies and underweight) seem so insignificant.

I'm thinking of bidding on it myself and giving it to the family.
