Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Btw Ducks, what kind of water carrying gear does everyone use? I've been using an Amphipod belt, but the dang bottles keep falling out.:headache: It's just a pain to get them in the clips just right. I even lost one. It fell off the back & I did't even notice. Thinking of trying a Nathan.:confused3

I use the same thing Joe does, I like it, used it on the Wine and Dine and it was Perfect, I carry the Sports beans in there when I do some longer runs.

Only ran twice since wine and dine and have lacked motivation. Since I'm doing the Philly half in a month, I knew I needed to get a long run in...but probably wouldn't do it on my own. So, what does an insane person do? Sign up for a 10 miler! Probably wouldn't have done 10 miles any other way. Finished in 1:48...and guess what!? Now, I qualify for the national half....I will probably register soon! Did Galloway, for the first half if the race and did walking breaks a little less often during the second half. I am thrilled to qualify since I wasn't sure if I'd even finish in under 2 hours!

Sorry I didn't mean to freak you out. I think the reason is some people in Michigan arn't as heathy as they think they are. The other reason is, Michigan can't get a break, 1 in 180,000 people in a running events dies and it's just Detroits luck it happened to 3 in one event.
On a happier note, I heard the women that Debbie saw getting cpr is doing better.:hippie:.

So don't be concerned my first WDW half marathon (the Wine & Dine) was a blast and I'm looking forward to the one in January.
Happy weekend everyone.
Joe

Wow! 1 in 180,000!?
I never would have thought chances were that high...yikes.

thanks guys. Guess I'll check Target before I spring for a Nathan. I'm used to a waist pack, but I think a backpack would drive me nuts.

MadieKins, how many miles are you going on your long runs now? Park next weekend?

Shannon, I've got to get in at least 12, (hopefully 13), but I have to work Saturday. :sad2:

well, i am officially out of heavy training. we found out two weeks ago that i am expecting a little one next june. i don't feel like i was in good enough shape to continue marathon training. everything i read says to scale back. obviously, training for a half marathon is not scaling back.

i'd like to at least get out and walk. right now, i'm dealing with exhaustion and nausea. so, i honestly haven't felt like getting out and walking. i'm hoping to be over it in the next few weeks so that i can keep in some kind of shape through this pregnancy.

i'm going to have someone pick up my t-shirt and pins. i'll give the pins to my kids and the t-shirt to DS, who loves donald. :)

Hey Ducks!

It's been a while since I posted. I ran three times in WDW after the W&D Half (loved running on the Boardwalk and down to DHS). Then I got 4-5 runs in after I got home. After my last run, however, I had LOTS of pain in my left hamstring - all the way up to the glut. So I've kinda kicked back and well...have done nothing since. I've laid off running now for almost two weeks.

The weather has turned really yucky here (we got snow on Monday and it hasn't melted yet). The days are getting waaay too short to run after work, so I'm doomed to the treadmill on weeknights for sure. If the weekends warm up a little, I might be able to run outside. I'll get back at it here soon. I must admit, this break feels good, though.

Welcome to our new Duck, Shannon, the Jersey girl!

And Carissa! You rock, lady! Good job on your 5K. That first race is always tough, but you're through it now. I read your blog and loved your pics! What a fun course to run. So the 10K is this weekend? Are you ready and pumped?!? I am...for you! Keep us posted.

Congrats to Emily, the Mom (again) -to-be!

Joe - This 4-1 run/walk that you do...is it 4 minutes, 1 minute? Or by mileage? Or is it 8 minutes, 2 minutes?

I can't speak on the water bottle issue, as I never carry it on my person. Way too much weight and jostling around. I stash it in bushes along my long run routes. Sorry!

Hope everyone's having a good week. Stay warm! And know that I'm struggling to do so...

Renee

Hey Renee! :goodvibes Sorry to hear about your injury, but glad you've been taking it easy. :thumbsup2

Yes, my 10k is on Saturday. I think I'm ready. :rolleyes1 I did 4 miles on Tuesday and will do a couple today. I ran 6 miles a few weeks ago so I know I can handle the distance. The hardest part for me will be not starting out too fast and then crashing halfway through and needing to walk the rest of the way. It'll be the same course as the 5k - just a bit extended. But, it ends on the boardwalk just like the Race for the Cure.

Here is the medal I'll be working for on Saturday:

Hello Ducks! Welcome to November (already). There have been some cool mornings here lately. Have not been on here in a bit, how is everyone feeling? I have not done much running, I ran once this week. Was going to run today at lunch but never got out of a meeting. I have been doing a good bit of swimming lately, so I have not cp'd out altogether. I might do an off-road duathlon this sunday.

How did the 10K go, Carissa? Cool medal! Renee, hope your leg feels better. Hope everyone is staying active, January is not too far away!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Augie

How did the 10K go, Carissa? Cool medal!

It went very well! :goodvibes The only other time I'd run 6 miles I'd gotten a time of 80 minutes. I ended up running 6.29 for the 10k and got a time of 79:27. :thumbsup2 I felt great throughout the race - very strong. And it was a ton of fun!

Doin a little 5k race tomorrow since I missed the boat on Run the Bridge. And I'm gonna push it just because I feel like it!

I went into the city a few years ago to see the marathon. It was pretty cool, we were at the 8 mile mark when the pack went by, and the leaders were running so fast! We were on bicylces, so we hopped around to a few viewing spots, and then went to Central Park for the end. It was a beautiful day but did start to get a bit cool by then. Have a great time if you go in!

Sorry I've been missing from the boards lately. I have been reading but my time has been very limited since getting back from the Food and Wine Half.

My leg/hip was giving me fits, which I kept trying to power walk through....that wasn't working at all, so I haven't walked now in about 2 weeks! I have been doing a number of classes, so I'm not a total slug, but I sure miss my walks. I plan to start again tomorrow and see how and see if I've given whatever it was going on time to heal. I do plan to be much better about stretching as I think skipping my stretches is the main part of my problem.

5k today- windy, cold & lots of uphill!. Ran in Vibrams & it felt great! Clock time- 33+, Garmin time 31:04, no chip. Arrrrgh! I was trying to break 30! Had to take 3 15 sec walks cause I was gagging. Even tried a coughdrop but that just felt too strange & I had to get rid of it. Maybe the Rothman 8k will go better.

Is that the one during the Philly Marathon and Half Weekend? Maybe we can make plans to meet up!

Sorry I haven't been on the boards in a LONG time. I am getting back into my training since I have no choice since I am signed up once again for the Goofy and time is of the essence.....

I hope to be more involved on this thread as well as on the WISH board in general. My training is progressing even though I am probably behind in my training. I did a 14 miler yesterday and I loved the cooler weather - it helped my time alot except the wind on the way back was a killer - I made it through in about the same time as I did my 12 miler the week before but it was hot and humid for that.

Hope everyone is doing well and Sam Sam - hope your leg/hip feels better soon. Mine has been giving me problems since right after the 2009 marathon but thankfully this year it hasn't been giving me too much pain. Hope you are able to get out and walk soon.
