Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

HIII DUCKIES! :) :)

I just wanted to thank everyone for their AMAZING support! I got accepted at 11:01 on September 10. 2010 to the Walt Disney World College Program for the Spring 2011 Season! :) :)

WooHoo!! Congrats!!, you will have to let us know where you will be and if we are down at that time, I will look out for you.

I did 10 miles this morning, it felt good, but my calves are sore now, I'll have to do a little stretching later. I think I will be doing 2 short runs this week before my first half marathon next Saturday.
We are getting excited for our Disney trip:cool1:. Debbie ran 3 miles the other day without stopping and she feels better about the 5K at the MK. Her legs were pretty sore though, she has been doing a lot of walking to get ready for the Detroit walking half marathon in October.

Have a good week everyone.
Joe

Joe-

Looks like you and I are the only Ducks running both the 5K and the half on 2 October. My plan is lightly jog the 5K, taking LOTS of pictures along the way and lollygagging as I go. I have no plan to make any "time" - just not get swept. This will be a warm-up walk/jog. Sounds like you and Debbie are seriously running the 5K? Like run - run? Like not walk or stop and smell the roses?

The half that night will be my serious race. No camera. No pics. No walking. No stopping.

What's your plan of attack?

I would love to go as fast as I can and see how I do . . . but it's a Disney race. I think I am still bringing the camera and getting pics. I plan on walking the water stops to drink properly - and maybe a quick stop at mile markers. If there are some great characters, I don't want to miss a sweaty photo op either!

My first half marathon is next Sunday! :scared1:

Joe, you are definitely in better training shape than me. My longest run has been 9.6 miles.

I think I'll be definitely doing my run/walk ratios & doing a lot of positive psychology. I'm getting nervous.

I'm doing one on Sunday, too? Are you do Philly Rock n' Roll?

Renee,

Thanks for checking in with me. I'm also doing Wine/Dine and I have a local one in November (AmishHalf.com)

I'm a member of a very large running board (ROTE) and I've slacked posting here since I'm over there daily. I do keep up and read many people's updates on FB.

Joe, by the way, you're doing great! Dan also ran his Virginia half and did great a week or two ago.

I hope everyone has a great race and I will try to get better about posting. I've been traveling a lot through the summer - Florida in June, then the shore 2x in August and in this past week in Sept....coming home catching up with everything, I guess I slacked - I'm sorry about that.

Cheers, Deb

Hi Deb,
I was thinking about doing the Amish Half...but thought it would be hilly and hot since there is little shade. Will there be many participants?

/

The 5K is going to be like yours, lots of stopping for photo-ops and taking in the whole atmoshere of running through the MK. For the Wine & Dine the camera is still coming with me and plan on not pushing myself too hard, I want to save something for the after party.
I am really looking forward to the whole trip.

Joe

Laura - YEP! Have you ever done it?

Question for everyone: Do you check your car key in your bag or keep it with you?

I can't wear one of those belts, so it's either I clip it to my shorts or put it in my pocket if I don't put it in my checked bag.

WWYD?

No, I've never done Philly...or any 1/2 Marathons other than Disney for that matter. This will be a first. I am very excited about the whole thing and am hoping for great weather - unlike last January!

Happy Monday! :goodvibes

I haven't been running much this past week due to a cold. Completely skipped my outdoor long run this weekend. I was supposed to do 5 miles (my longest yet), but that will have to wait until next Sunday.

I wanted to share a dream I had last night - more like a nightmare. :scared1: I was at the half-marathon in WDW. Liz was with me. We started running and I looked down and I was barefoot! :rotfl: Then I realized I was wearing jeans. :sad2: I was able to pause my time and go change.

I think I'm starting to freak out about the race! :rolleyes1

Good morning Ducks! I realized it's been almost 3 weeks since I posted on here. ugh! I have been reading on my iPhone but posting from there isn't so easy. I wish it were easy like using FB! Anyhoo..

My W&D training is going well. I did 10 miles in 1h53m on Saturday night starting at about 9pm. I wanted to do a long run at night to prepare myself for how W&D will be. It went great!! I feel ready now and not so unsure of how it will be to do a night race. I have one more long run coming up, 11.5 miles, before taper time.

So this weekend we have four Ducks doing half marathons! woohoo!
September
18 - airman(Joe) Air Force Half, Dayton, OH
18 - danmoss(Dan) Air Force Half, Dayton, OH
19 - Maddykins06(Karin) Rock n Roll Half, Philadelphia, PA
19 - marathonmommy(Laura) Rock n Roll Half, Philadelphia, PA

Now for some catching up...

Shirisha~ Did you decide about doing those races before the Princess Half? It would be good for you to do one race (any length) just to get a feel for what racing is like. I think your idea of doing the one with the longer time limit and walking those last couple miles sounds ok. I'd probably not do the other one though so as not to overdo it.

Megan~ Congratulations!!! :yay::cool1::woohoo::cheer2: WooHoo! How exciting is that! I'm so happy for you!! A Merchandise CM sounds so fun. Keep us posted on things!

Renee~ I've been on my treadmill inside in my a/c most of the summer. Only two runs outside in the past several months! On Saturday night for my 10 miles it was around 73 degrees here, and not bad humidity. I looked at what it was in Disney at that time and it was 83 degrees, don't know what the humidity was. I'm planning on it being warm and humid for the race, but hoping it won't be too bad. At least we know the sun won't be beating down, that's the worst I think!

Karin~ I have a Spibelt and a Fuelbelt (with no water, just the pocket). So I'll be using one of those to carry my stuff.

Carissa~ LOL, sorry about the crazy dream! I'll make sure you are not wearing jeans, and that you have your running shoes on before we leave the room that morning! ;) Things are going to be a-ok and it's going to be a fantastic weekend.

Oh and, I am planning to be at Tent D before the race still! I hope all of you will come too. We do need to figure out a time though.

Race starts at 10pm...so what time will each of you want to be IN your corrals? That'll help determine when we should meet. I'll be in the last corral since I didn't end up getting any proof of time, and I'd like to be near the front of it. So I think I'll want to head there at a decent time. I don't know, maybe at 9:30? I've only done the one Disney half so far so I'm just guessing here on timing.

Help!!

WWYD?

can you lace it into your shoelace? I wear a Spibelt...so I don't have any other suggestions on that

You are all doing GREAT!!
I love hearing about the great runs you're getting in.

I have been doing 5 milers trying to make a little bit faster time, but it is not working. I am still at a 14 min. mile pace. I'll just be happy with that and Wed. I have one last 10 miler planned. This one Has to go better than the last one.

I am getting very excited about the race, and very excited to meet some of you!

Happy running!!:cool1:

Congratulations to all of you doing so many races!

I will try to get to Tent D, before the race...not sure on the time yet. I'll be in one of the last corrals, so I probably don't need to head there until almost 10. Does anyone know how many corrals there will be?

I have one last long run to do (13 miles) this weekend, then taper. I'm slower than molasses, but I feel confident now that I can finish.:goodvibes

I'm getting very excited to just be in The World.....my happy place.:goodvibes

So it sounds like they want us in our corrals BY 9:30pm? I guess if I want to be near the front of that last corral then maybe I should get into it closer to 9pm? What do you all think??

Well, I remember waiting around for a good while in January:) In the sleet and cold.....

I hope it will cool off a bit, a co-worker just got back last week and he said it was in the 90's, in both heat and humidity.

Won't be long now!
