Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

A little while ago I took my 3 yr old out in the jogger and did 4 miles in 46:46.

that's awesome!

i did get out last night. thank you for asking. i limited myself to four miles. i figured if i felt okay, i'd run for longer. but i didn't have it in me to keep going. i was happy with that. i just needed to get out.

i was going to do a really short run this morning, but DS stayed home from preschool because his allergies were really bothering him. maybe tonight?

Joe, looks like we were at several of the same bases, just a few years apart. Although I was stationed at Shaw in SC, a friend form basic was statioed at Myrtle beach, and I spent pretty near every weekend there during the summer. And when I was at RMAB, there were six other US bases in Germany, and there was a pretty good sports league. I played soccer, and we were the german champs, so we went to Upper Heyford for a week for the USAFE championship. Besides playing soccer we also played tourist as well, so visited London.

Liz, thanks for organizing the St Patty's runs. And you list Charlotte as your home, I noticed on the Trey website he will be playing at the Fillmore there next Friday (the 26th). I just saw him last night, and it was great show.

Emily~ Thanks, yeah my goal with the jogger was 12 minute miles so I was happy with that.
That's great you got 4 miles in!
What kind of allergies does your ds have? My 8 yr old has multiple allergies...the seasonal ones will hit hard in late March/early April. He's good right now in the winter though.

Augie~ I had to google who you were talking about, I've never heard of him. But I have never been good with knowing musicians. Glad you had fun though! I read some interesting stuff about him and his concerts in my google search...lol

he has seasonal allergies. but he is allergic to some foods too (egg yolks, peanuts, walnuts and cocoa). he has mild asthma that is aggravated when he is sick or if he is outside in the heat too much. it is mild, so nothing compared to how bad some children are. :) he tends to get whatever is going around though.

Alright, I am officially registered for the WDW full marathon, I think I am going to skip the Goofy this year and try it for 2012, I want to see what my body feels like after just one long race. Plus something I failed to mention before we will be at WDW during Christmas so we need to start saving money for that as well. Something I am quickly figuring out, these races are not cheap!!!!

dan good for you for registering for the marathon! will your family be staying from christmas through to the marathon? i'm so jealous! :)

and yeah on the expensive part. once i got my total (i added two of the pins for my kids). wow! plus, i have to pay for everything else too! but it's all good. i envision myself running up main street and then later through the castle and it's SO worth it!

No unfortunately we are only going from 21-27 Dec and then I will turn around a go back by myself for the marathon weekend. Wish my family could be there, but with school for the kids and my wife not being able to take that much time off from work it just is not in the cards. So I will need some running motivation when I get down there, Not that I won't be totally stoked and excited anyway, but it will be lonely.

Liz - nice idea with the virtual - I'll have to miss this one, as I'll just be getting home from vaca and recovering!

Dan - congrats on signing up - I'm planning on WDW's as my first full marathon also.

Did my 10 mile run last night - in training for Princess 1/2 that's coming up quickly. Glad it's done -- it took a long time, but I did it! :thumbsup2

Good morning Ducks! Can you believe that I have another child home sick from school today?! My 5 yr old seems to have come down with another cold, and has a constant cough. His teacher sent a note home with him yesterday saying that he was coughing a lot at school...so I figured I'd better keep him home for a day (hopefully NOT more than that!)

Emily~That's good your son's asthma isn't bad. My 8 yr old also has mild asthma, and his allergies are: trees, grass, weeds, mold, dust mites, cats, dogs and tree nuts. Fortunately the only ones that have ever caused a very noticeable symptom are the springtime outdoor ones. The rest were only discovered by chance through blood tests. And he only needs his inhaler once in blue moon. We're thinking/hoping that he is outgrowing the asthma and most allergies. Although his doctor still wants him to get allergy shots. Each year we reassess whether to do them or not, and we'll be doing that again this spring. So we'll see.

Dan~Yay for registering for the Full! Seems like a great idea to me to do that first then go for the Goofy.
It looks like you have the same WDW travel plans as we do around then! We are also going to WDW for Christmas (Dec. 17-26, we'll drive), and then I'll be flying down for marathon weekend alone (that's what I did this year too). I'll fly down Friday morning and fly home Sunday, again, just like this year. It works well like that, enough time for the race and some fun too. :) I'm thinking I will go cheap and stay at POP this time though, I stayed at BLT with a friend for this years.

Deb~Way to go on your 10 miler!! :cheer2: Are you in taper now? When I trained for the half last fall the training plan I was following called for the longest run to be 12 miles. Due to having a hurt knee, my longest ended up being somewhere around 11.25. Which was plenty.

Yes, I am starting to taper after this one...I've been roughly following a plan from Marathoning for Mortals book...just had to adjust it some when I hurt my tailbone.

Liz- another son home! Oh no -- you finally got everyone healthy again and it's like a cycle that never ends...hopefully he'll heal quickly this go around

Thanks for the well-wishes Deb. :) Happy tapering! How exciting that the Princess is just 2.5 weeks away!

Dan - Yay for registering for the full! :cool1:

Deb - Congrats on your 10 mile run! :cheer2:

Liz - Ugh - sorry to hear DS5 is home sick. :( With homeschooling this year, we have all been so healthy. It's been wonderful! I think we've all had maybe one cold. Fingers crossed it stays that way as we head into spring.

As for me, I just did W4D2. I was able to add a minute of running time today so that I only have to work on completing the full five minutes of the last run interval. Total run distance was the same as Tuesday - 1.85 miles.

Where has this week gone??? :confused3

WTG on W4D2 Carissa! :)

Yeah, the boys pick up lots and lots of bugs at school! It's nice in the summer when we get a break from that.

deb, way to go on your ten-miler! i can't wait to hear your report from the princess. DD8 wants me to run that one. it's funny because she is so NOT into princesses, but she wants me to get that medal. DS5 is more interested in the donald medal! ;)

liz, so far, we haven't done allergy shots for DS5. but, he started on zyrtec right after he turned one. for awhile, he had to have it every day. now, i only give him allergy medicine when the seasonal stuff bothers him. and he doesn't use his inhaler frequently at all. the only time he really has attacks are when it is the hot months. i just have to monitor how long he is outside. while he'd love to be outside all day, every day, he just can't handle it. i'm hoping he grows out of it some. he can eat things he couldn't before (he can have eggs if they are made into something, like cupcakes, but he doesn't eat anything with eggs as the main ingredient). but we still avoid peanuts and walnuts. he won't touch chocolate. it's funny. he used to say, "i can't eat chocolate. chocolate makes me sick." and now, he says "i'm sick of chocolate." so, we're trying to explain to him that it's nicer the OTHER way he used to say it. he doesn't mean it to sound rude, but it does. lol!

Emily, my son was more like yours when he was younger. He couldn't be outside as much, it would just flare him up. But he has gotten better and better each year. I hope it goes that way for your son too! When my son was younger he used to say that type of thing about foods that had nuts in them, "I don't like that." But I didn't want him to think that, I wanted him to know that, well, maybe he would like it, but unfortunately he can't have it. I wanted him to understand the truth, that it wasn't a matter of not liking things, it was a matter of him being allergic to them. Of course now at age 8 he understands it all and is very good about being safe.

Dan - congrats on signing up - I'm planning on WDW's as my first full marathon also.

Deb, sounds like I have a running buddy :goodvibes

Liz- Sorry to hear that you have another kid down for the count. That is funny that you will be down at WDW the same time we are for Christmas, we are staying at Port Orleans, How about you? I was thinking of staying at one of the values as well for the run, need to save the pennies where ever I can. Plus with just me I really don't need all of the nice stuff. I am leaving Monday, so I can relax a little before getting on the plane, but now that I think about it walking may not be too comfortable on Monday after that long run :lmao:

Dan-

Way to go on registering for the full WDW marathon! When I grow up, I want to be just like you. Oh, wait a minute. I am pretty much grown up, so that's probably not gonna happen. That, and I'm a girl. Good on you!

Deb-

I just loved how you almost dribbled that last line in on your post..."Did my 10 mile run last night...". Like, "Oh, and by the way...". Awesome! Those double-digit runs really make you feel like you've accomlished something, eh?

Carissa-

You are really an inspiration to follow on this thread. You can do this! You know you can! Just keep plugging away at it.

Me? I'm kinda back in the swing of things. I got three 4-mile runs in this week so far. I also officially signed up for the 5K on 2 October at the Magic Kingdom. Is anyone going to join me? I'm still planning on doing the 1/2 marathon that night, too. I figure 14 hours rest between the races (8 AM to 10 PM) should be sufficient. Anyone? Anyone? Ferris?

Awww - Thanks Renee. You're very sweet. :goodvibes

3 4-mile runs sounds great to me! :thumbsup2 Congrats on signing up for the 5K. I thought about doing the 5K with my husband during marathon weekend and then doing the half marathon, but I decided to just focus on the half.

Good morning all! Well I sent in my 5 yr old this morning. I emailed his teacher and said if she needs me to come get him at anytime to call me. I want to get a run in before that potentially happens so I'll be heading out with the jogger in a little bit here.

Dan~Will you be at Riverside or French Quarter? We've stayed at them both and love them. We honeymooned at Riverside when it was still called Dixie Landings. And then we stayed at French Quater a few times with the kids, we like how small that moderate is. We are partial to the Sassagoula River resorts, just love that area!

Anyway, for our trip we'll be staying offsite at Caribe Royale the first two nights, and then we switch to Saratoga Springs (we are DVC members) for the next 7 nights. But, we may end up splitting those 7 DVC nights between SSR and another DVC resort just for fun...we have to wait until 7 months out to do that though.

Have you been at Christmas before? We did it for the first time in 2008, and it was so much fun!! It really was extra magical being there for the holiday. We took a slim, 6 foot tree, and other easy to use/easy to pack decorations (window clings, paper decor, sparkly garland). Oh and we even took a prelit battery-operated evergreen garland that we hung on the railing of our balcony! It was so much fun decorating and having the villa like that during the trip. Oh, we stayed at SSR that trip too by the way.

Renee~We considered going down for a quick family trip and some of us would do the 5K, but we decided against it. It sounds like it's going to be so much fun!!!

Liz - Hope you were able to get your run in this morning! :cheer2:

Does everyone cross-train on your non-run days? I've been trying out different "games" on the wii and just tried EA Sports Active today and really liked it. My thighs are going to be sore tomorrow. :rolleyes1

Just curious what everyone else does.
