This is the most disturbing story. While I realize that hunting is a "sport" (don't get me started on that! ) I don't realize how it is fun to kill any animal and then disrespect it in the way that these two did. I'm sure that there are many opinions about animal rights, but for me this is just disgusting

Disgusting and sad. I don't consider hunting to be a sport at all. Those morons should hang their heads in shame. Anyone who could do something that cruel to a beautiful elephant (or any of the other animals they killed) is a pathetic piece of garbage.

The hunting debate aside, I don't think it is uncommon for hunters to keep a trophy of the animal killed. My daughters old music teacher hunts with her husband and she shared pictures of herself with her "trophies."

but not wanting to get into the hunting debate.

hunting to eat the meat is one thing, but hunting just to kill and have a "trophy" is quite another in my book.

I totally agree that all the Trump men are morons. They are rich morons however and they paid a huge sum to hunt and kill an elephant. Zimbabwe charges a small fortune for these hunts and uses the money to keep their animal preserves in good shape. There IS a balance here, crazy as it sounds. Not many hunters can afford to hunt big game so the hunting isn't the main reason the animals are disappearing from the African land mass. Human encroachment/agriculture, development, poaching for body parts and drought are the main causes. For the record, I think big game hunting is barbaric and reflects a shortcoming on the part of the hunter.

Hunting is a sport, whether you eat the meat or not doesnt make a difference in my book, (altho why waste good meat, i love me some elk, venison, yummY!) anway, what they did is not illegal. other people take these trips all the time, why is it a big deal when the Trumps do it??

In our country and our culture, we don't usually attack these animals. I guess that's why it's rubbing me the wrong way and why I'm having such a problem with it. You don't need to showboat. That's arrogance. Holding up the tail of an already dead animal is unnecessary. And the other pictures, when they have the hat and guns on the water buffalo while sitting on it, that's just wrong. I know that they paid money to kill the animals and a lot of the meat went to hungry villagers, but it still doesn't make it right that they posted pictures of their "trophies"

Well I live in your country and about 1.5hrs from your culture and my DH has pictures of himself with every deer he has killed. Call it showboating, but his hobby fills my freezers every winter. Like I said in my previous post, I see no problems with these pictures.

I will answer........yes I am vegetarian, close to vegan.

Not understanding the outrage either. They went hunting. They killed animals. So what if they didn't eat it themselves. But I don't see where it says that they didn't.

I see it as no different than the people who hunt the wild hogs. Most keep the tusks as a trophy. Then they deliver the animals to be processed for use by people who aren't well off.

These nations make tons of $$ off these foreign hunters, the meat goes back to the villagers, and it's often a "managed" harvest (aka elephants eat tons, there's not enough land to support them, so if the herd has to be thinned anyway, might as well let the rich foreigners do it ).

None of these animals are endangered, or were tortured, right, unless I'm missing something?

I have friends who have done these "dream" trips and yes, usually you are used to thin the herd lol. They have to manage how many animals are out there so they use these hunting trips to do it.

The way you described it, I thought they peed on it or something. Posing with a cut off elephant's tail is rather disgusting to me in the same way posing while digging through elephant poop would be. But nothing that upsets me. I also don't consider it manly or macho by any means. He hasn't got it. Hence the need to flaunt it. Now if he wants to go hunting in a manner that truly takes some guts and do a public service, he should go feral hog hunting.

Ooh, now that IS really scary . DH always says bears, mt lions, bobcats, etc don't scare him, but that there's NO way he's ever going deep into the brush after a hog. (And I'd never let him risk our hounds' lives doing so, either, since hogs kill tons of hunting dogs every year...)

The Trumps have done *many* more offensive things than this over the years, IMHO ...
