Don' forget about COVID

We head out for our Alaska cruise in a few days. Last week I got my flu and COVID vaccine for the year. I just thought between the airports, flights and ships best to be safe. Well, safe for at least those 2 things. :joker:
Assuming you will be on the September 15th sailing? We will see you there! Cheers to a wonderful cruise!

My husband swears he is done vacationing. Last summer the two of us came home from a cruise with COVID. (Princess, not Disney, not that it matters). Broken bones skiing in Utah this winter. Land based vacation and our kid came home with COVID.

My wife picked it up from who-knows-where recently and it knocked her out for a good 2 weeks; she still has issues with fatigue, and this is after the vaccine and boosters. It's no joke.

Oddly, nobody else un the family had anything more than sniffles.

It hits me hard like that too. I've had it twice, the most recent was after summer travel in 2024. The worst of it was about 5 days long, but it was a good 6+ weeks before my energy levels returned. The rest of my immediate family also seems to bounce back a lot more quickly.

We timed our last booster so we'd have maximum immunity for our recent spring Treasure cruise, and we all stayed healthy. Though I don't think I heard about it circulating much back then anyway.

This is just a quick FYI for anyone who wants a COVID booster vaccine. (if you aren't interested, that's totally fine, click away or scroll down. I understand this is absolutely a personal choice and adults get to decide whether or not they want one for a wide variety of reasons). If you can't get a COVID vaccine at a retail type pharmacy ( like CVS or Walgreens) and you have a doctor that you see on a yearly/regular basis, call your doctor. They might be able to arrange for you to get the most recent vaccine.

I sailed on the Magic last month. Overnight the last night I had a sore throat (lasted a few days) then woke up the last day with a runny nose (lasted about a week). Turns out it was Covid.

Not a cruise Covid story but a concert
A few years vagi we went to see a performer at a threatre about 2 hrs from where we live. A few days I came down with Covid

A few days later he was our state fair a couple DH knows from his church came down with it.
Strange how you can see how it spreads

Also please don't get mad at pharmacies/doctors offices if they can't give you the vaccine either. They are going off of protocols from the state, and if the representatives from the state haven't met then it will get delayed.

THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE MESSAGE
If you are standing outside the Bayou on the Wish and someone comes walking by you please please don’t cough on that person. Please please cover your mouth when you cough in a public space. I’m speaking to you inconsiderate woman who did this to me Labor Day weekend. The cold symptoms started this last Friday and is still present.

We got our 2025-2026 covid vaccine 2 days ago. CVS has it and as we are both over 65, no need to any other help to get it. We are cruising at the end of the month (on Princess), plus we are doing a week long bus tour the week before plus flying cross country, so we wanted as much protection as we can get. We both caught covid on a road trip to Texas in 2022. Waiting until November for our extra strength senior citizen flu vaccine, to give us protection during the peak of flu season. Been getting annual flu vaccines for 25 years, covid is now part of our vaccine ritual.

Last caught it in October about a year after my latest booster and it was pretty nasty for me... raised my BP and HR for a bit, and then when I had the booster again in January for the year I saw it spike again for three days before settling back down. My husband caught it last week at Disneyland and I never caught it (tested anyway to be sure before I went back to work and again a few days later as I volunteer with elderly folk and wanted to be extra safe). They say if you have a strong reaction it offers better protection; seems about right for me! He hadn't really reacted much at all till now, even when he had it the first time and after the boosters.

It’s been running through my daughter’s college campus the last couple weeks. It happened last fall too. Welcome week = parties and germs!

We have a family cruise booked in December over break and I sort of feel like I’m playing with fire!
We are learning this. DS is in his second year of college. Last year he lived at home. This year he is living in a house with friends basically on campus but 5 minutes from us. He had a virus last fall (gave it to me while I also had whooping cough from DD), then the flu for the spring (gave it to all of us but DD) and then this fall he had a cold but came home every day and still gave it to me. It is always within the first 2 weeks of school. He or I have never been this sick.
