Styx - Mr. Roboto lyrics (www.dainos.net/lyrics/1703/styx-mr-roboto.htm)
(Dennis DeYoung)
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
Mata ah-oo hima de
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
Himitsu wo shiri tai

You're wondering who I am-machine or mannequin
With parts made in Japan, I am the modren man

I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive

I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control

I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For doing the jobs that nobody wants to
And thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For helping me escape just when I needed to
Thank you-thank you, thank you
I want to thank you, please, thank you

The problem's plain to see: too much technology
Machines to save our lives. Machines dehumanize.

The time has come at last
To throw away this mask
So everyone can see
My true identity...
I'm Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy!

Styx - Mr. Roboto

You know, I have done good by my kids. ;) My youngest knew immediately what this was and she told me to tell ya'll that she loves it.

She must have seen that VW commercial a while back where the guys are all in the car singing, but you can't hear what they are saying. Then suddenly the doors open and Mr. Roboto comes blasting out! CLASSIC!

Domo Arigato means Thank you in Japanese. I LOVE STYX! And this entire album. I wore out an entire tape of this in my youth and had to buy another one.

Found the full translation and an explaination:

English translation:Thank you very much (Mr. Robot). Later, when you have time, I'd like to know your secret.

the "Kilroy Was Here" album was a concept album in which the main character had to take a disguise in order to avoid the morality police who were arresting rock musicians. He takes the guise of a "Roboto." This is probably the "secret" being referred to in this song. Mr. Roboto in this instance is not a robot at all, but is actually Kilroy in disguise.

Later, at the end of the song, he repeats almost in a yelling tone, "I'm Kilroy."

GEEK CONFESSION: I used to have the video of the Kilroy Was Here Concert/Rock Opera. Not sure what ever happened to itl

HUGE Styx fan here.

Years ago I knew someone that spoke Japanese and asked for a translation of the opening lyrics. She told me, and of course I didn't retain that knowledge. Thanks to google and wikipedia, they are --

Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
Until the day we meet again
Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
I want to know your secret

My apologies to the OP, but I want to post this link to a video I found on youtube. It's been a while since I've searched for the video to Dennis DeYoung's Desert Moon; well, now it's on there.

Hi, I'm Matthew, and I'm also a geek. :teeth:

I used to have that same video. The one with the performance concert and the long introductory video for the concept? Sad thing is, give me a little time and I can probably find the blamed thing.

(I can hear Lauri saying "oh, good lord" when she reads this ;) )

I guess that I know what we will be doing the next time we get together! ;) Lauri and Shug can just put up with it! The really bad part is my singing. We will give them a big dose of their pain meds, maybe they won't notice! :rotfl2:

I think the one I had was sort of a music videoesque acting out of the "story" of Kilroy was here, but it has been so long I really can't remember. Oldtimers and alll. . .

My DS9 dialed this song up on my iPod on our way home from his baseball game tonight. I'm not sure he knew WHAT he was selecting for play but he listened to the entire song! :thumbsup2

I love Styx! Regularly will still listen to the Paradise Theater album as well as Kilroy Was Here. At my HS grad night we were given free tickets to their concert that was a few weeks away. I could not go, but my parents did and saw one of the Panozzo brothers get married (I think)

I liked Styx and all, but they left me when this came out. Sorry just cannot do Roboto?:confused3 :scared1:

I prefered the Tommy Shaw songs like Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Fooling Yourself.

When they came out with Roboto I thought that Dennis must have gotten into some kind of accident or something, but to each their own.

My only Styx concert was the Kilroy Was Here Tour in the 80's.

They did a few numbers from Paradise too. It was a great show.

Styx!!! I loved the whole Paradise Theater album. Not so much the Kilroy was Here one. Dennis De Young got a bit weird there- I liked more of the straight-on rock, Tommy Shaw influenced stuff more than the high-concept, rock opera artsy stuff.

I think some of you here are showing that you are a bit older than others of us :rolleyes1

::yes::

Yes, Mr. Roboto was actually the breakdown of Styx. That concert did not go overboard overall. After that, Dennis DeYoung left to do Broadway & stage. :(

The BEST Styx song is: :cool1:

The Best Of Times Lyrics

(Dennis DeYoung)

Tonight's the night we'll make history, honey, you and I
And I'll take any risk to tie back the hands of time
And stay with you here tonight
I know you feel these are the worst of times
I do believe it's true
When people lock their doors and hide inside
Rumor has it it's the end of Paradise
But I know, if the world just passed us by
Baby I know, you wouldn't have to cry

The best of times are when I'm alone with you
Some rain some shine, we'll make this a world for two
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime
We'll take the best, forget the rest
And someday we'll find these are the best of times
These are the best of times

The headlines read 'these are the worst of times'
I do believe it's true
I feel so helpless like a boat against the tide
I wish the summer winds could bring back Paradise
But I know, if the world turned upside down
Baby, I know you'd always be around

The best of times are when I'm alone with you
Some rain some shine, we'll make this a world for two
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime
We'll take the best, forget the rest
And someday we'll find these are the best of times
These are the best of times

But then there's this song from The Grand Illusion Album:

Come Sail Away Lyrics

(Dennis DeYoung)

I'm sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board, I'm the captain, so climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try to carry on

I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever, so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But we'll try best that we can to carry on

A gathering of angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said
They said come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise
They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies
Singing come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

:dance3:

After being attacked by the PMRC for allegedly backmasking the word Satan in the song "Snowblind" on their Paradise Theatre album Styx actually DID use backmasking on the Kilroy Was Here album (Heavy Metal Poisoning).

Another huge Styx fan here. First band that I collected the entire catalog.

I even liked the Kilroy album, but admit some of the sings were real weak. My favorite is also the Paradise Theatre album, which is also a concpet ablum as well.

In fact, their last album with Dennis, Brave New World, had a few good songs and was also a concept album based on the book fo the same name.
