Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto!

The other day in school one of DD13's teachers was playing "Come Sail Away." DD was singing along with it and her teacher was amazed that she knew the song, lyrics, who was singing it and how to spell their name! :lmao:

I liked Styx and all, but they left me when this came out. Sorry just cannot do Roboto?:confused3 :scared1:

I prefered the Tommy Shaw songs like Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Fooling Yourself.

When they came out with Roboto I thought that Dennis must have gotten into some kind of accident or something, but to each their own.

I am right there with you! Once the Roboto thing came they lost me.......I loved all their previous albums, The Serpent is Rising,Cornerstone, Equinox. The Grand Illusion, and my favorite Man of Miracles!

Like these two a lot,

Don't Let It End
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMqX8E6xiI0

What can I do
Pictures of you still make me cry
Trying to live without your love
It's so hard to do
Some nights I'll wake up
I'll look at your pillow
Hoping that I'll see you there
But I get up each day, not much to say
I've nowhere to go
Loneliness fills me up inside
'Cause I'm missing you
So if you'll give us a chance to remember
The love we had once together
Wait and see
Time is all that we really need
I'm praying you won't say no
I mean to tell you

CHORUS
Don't let it end
Baby we could have so much more
Don't let it end
Honey please don't walk out that door

I'm telling you baby, I made my mistakes
But I'll make you this promise to do what it takes
I'll be there to protect you and hold you tight
You got my lovin' baby every single night

Don't let it end
I'm begging you, don't let it end this way
Don't let it end
I'm begging you, don't let it end this way

Don't let it end
Baby we could have so much more
Don't let it end
Honey please don't walk out that door
Don't let it end
I'm begging you don't let it end this way
Don't let it end
I'm begging you don't let it end this way, no, no, no
No, no, no

What will I do
If you say we're through
I need you to stay, honey
Don't let it end this way.

Babe, I'm leaving, I must be on my way
The time is drawing near
My train is going, I see it in your eyes
The love, the need, your tears
But I'll be lonely without you
And I'll need your love to see me through
Please believe me, my heart is in your hands
And I'll be missing you.

You know it's you Babe
Whenever I get weary and I've had enough
Feel like giving up
You know it's you Babe
Giving me the courage and the strength I need
Please believe that it's true
Babe, I love you.

You know it's you Babe
Whenever I get weary and I've had enough
Feel like giving up
You know it's you Babe
Giving me the courage and the strength I need
Please believe that it's true
Babe, I love you.

Babe, I'm leaving, I'll say it once again
Somehow try to smile
I know the feeling we're trying to forget
If only for a while
But I'll be lonely without you
And I'll need your love to see me through
Please believe me, my heart is in your hands
And I'll be missing you
Babe, I love you.

Yeah.....maybe but us OLDIES know what real rock was all about!

Yep! Some of us had our brains warped by too much '80s bubble gum rock! :rotfl2: Kilroy Was Here was my first introduction to STYX but after that I got the "old stuff" and love it all!

Dang, now I need to get my CD's out of the car and bring them in--I have all the songs going through my head from reading the lyrics. :music:

Me too! I saw him....errrr....them.... last month with Def Leppard.

Should have stopped with him. Even with JY hanging on it's an insult they call that band Styx. The replacements are terrible IMO and I haven't liked a song since the Brave New World album.

Well thanks Bonnie! Third day in a row that the stupid song is stuck in my head. I refuse to put that robot in my siggie though and you can't make me!

My 5 year came home from prek last spring singing that one line over and over again (using the wrong words too). He learned it from one of his friends there.

Ah, my all time favorite Subject is finally on the CB.

My name is Chris and I am a Styx fan. I have been a fan since the moment I heard Come Sail Away. WOW. oh my god, WOW.

As for lately, I didn't want to see them with Def Leppard for one really important reason, I don't care for a short set. They're playing Midnight Ride though, and that hurts, but I will see them again eventually.

With that in mind, though, I recommend two books recently about them, strangely enough, similar titles. Grand Delusion by Sterling Whitaker, about the band and Grand Illusion, which is Chuck Panazzo's biography.

Latest Album of all new music is Cyclorama, which I do recommend, just keep in mind that Dennis is no longer with the band, but the music is rather solid.

I will start babling, so if anyone wishes to talk Styx...I'm all for it.

Styx fan here! Saw them in concert in the late 70's (yikes!) and named quite a few of my show dogs after their songs! Celebrith Grand Illusion was my first homebred champion, Celebrith Styx N Stones, etc.
A group of us lip-synced the Styx song "The Main Event" in a small competition at a college party- we practised more for this than any final :lmao: . We were first to run through and the rest of the competition refused to go on! :rotfl: I "was" Dennis :rockband:

Main event? That was the name of the Pieces of Eight tour. Could you mean "Great White Hope"?

That's it! Thanks, I hated the thought of rooting through the old tapes to get the name and just winged it.
You truly ARE a Styx fan! (where is that I'm Not Worthy smilie when you need it?)

I feel bad that I can't quote the whole bit...but I adore the song after that on the album...I'm O.K.

If anyone hasn't heard this album...it's one of, if not their very best.

::yes::

Yes, Mr. Roboto was actually the breakdown of Styx. That concert did not go overboard overall. After that, Dennis DeYoung left to do Broadway & stage. :(

The BEST Styx song is: :cool1:

The Best Of Times Lyrics

(Dennis DeYoung)

Tonight's the night we'll make history, honey, you and I
And I'll take any risk to tie back the hands of time
And stay with you here tonight
I know you feel these are the worst of times
I do believe it's true
When people lock their doors and hide inside
Rumor has it it's the end of Paradise
But I know, if the world just passed us by
Baby I know, you wouldn't have to cry

The best of times are when I'm alone with you
Some rain some shine, we'll make this a world for two
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime
We'll take the best, forget the rest
And someday we'll find these are the best of times
These are the best of times

The headlines read 'these are the worst of times'
I do believe it's true
I feel so helpless like a boat against the tide
I wish the summer winds could bring back Paradise
But I know, if the world turned upside down
Baby, I know you'd always be around

The best of times are when I'm alone with you
Some rain some shine, we'll make this a world for two
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime
We'll take the best, forget the rest
And someday we'll find these are the best of times
These are the best of times

This was my prom theme......1982 or was it junion prom 1981? too long ago.

ETA: I too ditched Styx during Mr. Roboto. I still can't/won't listen to that song.

My favorites are Suite Madame Blue and Fooling Yourself

The really bad part is my singing.

No, the really bad part is MY singing. :scared1:

After being attacked by the PMRC for allegedly backmasking the word Satan in the song "Snowblind" on their Paradise Theatre album Styx actually DID use backmasking on the Kilroy Was Here album (Heavy Metal Poisoning).

I had to look that up and found it on wikipedia. I'm not going to ruin it, but anyone curious has to look it up and see what they put on the album. :teeth:

My favorites have always been the Tommy Shaw songs. Renegade, Too Much Time on My Hands, Blue Collar Man, and this one --

I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line
I used to think that everything was fine
Sometimes I'd like to sit and gaze for days through sleepless dreams
All alone and trapped in time
All alone and trapped in time

I wonder what tomorrow has in mind for me
Or am I even in it's mind at all
Perhaps I'll get a chance to look ahead and see
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball

Tell me, tell me where I'm going
I don't know where I've been
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
And then tell me again
My heart is breaking, my body's aching
And I don't know where to go
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
I've just got to know

Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball

["extra verse" used occasionally live]
If you should see me walking
Through your dreams at night
Would you please direct me
Where I ought to be
I've been looking for a crystal ball
To shed the light
To find a future in me...
To find a future in me...

Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball
