Has anyone done the Dolphins In Depth behind the scenes tour at the Living Seas in Epcot? I've read that it is $150 and it is more educational than swimming with the dolphins. Can anyone tell me about their experience and if it is worth it?

Thanks,

Hi,

My husband and I did this on our Sept 2005 trip. Even though we were able to get a discount with our Disney Visa card we both say that it was truly an amazing experiance and would worth every penny. The Dolphins are Clavin and Rainer and they are both great. You do not "swim" with them you "interact" with them. It is amazing.

I would love to do that...the only thing that worries me is that it states in all the guidebooks that dolphin interaction is not gaurenteed. :confused3 I would be really upset if that was true. Has anyone done the Dolphin Encounter, and NOT had any interaction? And how far in advance can you book it?

The program is awesome. The dolphins were great. The reason for the "hopeful interaction" phrasing is because at the Living Seas they take very good care of their animals. If the dolphins dont want to play, they dont have to. However, I talked to a trainer, and they said that they had not missed an interaction in the last year.

Also, Disney's program is cool, because only 8 people get to meet their dolphins per day, where as at other places, the dolphins see sometimes hundreds of people per day.

Finally, Disney's Dolphins in Depth is non-profit (yeah, something at disney is non-profit.). They donate all Proceeds to the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund.

Also, your photo with the Dolphin is Free (Discovery Cove charges), and you also get a free shirt.

Is there an age or height requirement for this? My dd LOVES dolphins (chose them for her school animal project), she would love this! But she'll only be 7, turning 8 while we're there. Would they let her do it, on her own, or with a parent?

Thanks,
AG

Bump I would also like to know the age requirments for this. Thanks

I think the age requirement is 13. My niece is 15 and we just did it last month. My sister had to sign a liability waiver for her. The program is great and 100% of the proceeds goes to fund Disney conservation programs. I've done the program twice. It is worth every penny to hold a dolphin in your arms. Discounts are available with Disney Visa, AAA and I think an AP. Oh and book early since they only accept eight participants.

Disney’s Dolphins In Depth is an in-depth, behind-the-scenes experience to learn more about the dolphins and research at The Living Seas, as well as to increase awareness and appreciation for their counterparts in the wild. Most importantly, you will meet them up close and personal, in the water! You are guaranteed to get wet, and most likely splashed, by our resident dolphins.
It is our hope that we will educate guests with valuable information that will provide a better understanding and a heightened appreciation for these marvelous creatures.
