Dolphin vs. POR

Hey! We are going on a last minute trip to Disney for a short 3 night/2 day trip, end of May. One day at Magic Kingdom, and one day at Harry Potter World (Universal)

Last year we took our daughter (7) to Disney for the first time and stayed at the Swan, loved it!! Growing up we stayed at the Polynesian regularly, but now it is just too $$ for us. I have also stayed at the Swan and Dolphin many times and have always enjoyed it and I really like the Boardwalk. (and by the way, I am not a fan of DTD...except for Babycakes).

I have always wanted to try another Disney hotel, but nervous to try something new and regret it.

We booked a room at the Dolphin, and then received a PIN code for 30% off and booked a royal room at POR, which I am sure my 7-year old daughter will love. POR is cheaper. I guess we can drive to Boardwalk for our dinner at Kouzzina (yum!)

So, now I need to cancel one of them. But which one?? Which is more fun for a 7-year old who loves princesses? Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you doing anything after dinner or were you planning on just going back to your resort?

Since you are only going to MK, I would take the POR room. The theme sounds really cool and you'd have to bus or drive to MK from the Dolphin anyway. And it's less expensive to boot!

It seems like a win-win to me for POR. Your DD loves princesses and you were able to score a Royal room for less than the Dolphin.

I agree, I would also take the POR pin code. I was asking if you were planning on doing anything after dinner in that area because if so, I would have suggested the Dolphin out of convenience. if you are planning on just going back to the resort I would do POR especially since you know your DD will love it

Thank you for your replies. Other than dinner and an after dinner stroll, that will probably all we do at the Boardwalk.

I am sure my daughter will love the POR royal room.

It just makes me nervous to try something new ;)

At the Swan & Dolphin, I always feel like I am staying at a really nice hotel...will I feel the same about POR?

Don't be nervous about trying something new. It's exciting! I know people that have been so happy with POR that it's now their 1st choice! I think you're going to get more of a Disney "feel" at POR

You might not. The Swan is a Westin while POR is more comparable to a Holiday Inn Express (but a very well themed and clean Holiday Inn Express obviously). The quality and quantity of the amenities are much better at the Swan.

Still, you are only going for two nights, it sounds like you won't be at the resort that much anyways, and at POR, you have a room that I'm pretty sure any seven-year-old girl will love while saving money. The worst thing that happens is you'll learn moderates are not for you and you can head back to the Swan for your next longer trip.

We've stayed at both and liked both. However, given the choice I'd chose POR. It's a beautiful resort.

Normally on a short trip, I'd say Dolphin due to quick transportation options. But since you're only going to MK, I'd say POR. POR is actually pretty close to MK and the bus ride is only about 7 mins. It's closer than Dolphin. If you decide to go to DTD one night, the boat to POR is great and easier than the bus since DTD buses can be a nightmare. I also love the quiet pools at POR. We stayed at POR for a quick one night trip two years ago and it worked out well for us.
