Dolphin standard room?

Our family has 4 standard rooms booked under 3 separate reservations. I'm wondering if there are standard rooms that we would definitely NOT want to get, ie loading dock or rooftop views? When we are checking in (all together) I'd like to know if the rooms they offer us will be OK. We're not in the rooms very much to be overly concerned with having "the best", but we don't want the worst either! It would be nice if our rooms are somewhat near each other, too. What would be the best way to request that? Should we e-mail the hotel directly or just wait until check-in? We noted that we are part of a group on our original ressies, will that be enough?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm the "family trip orgainizer" and keep thinking SOMETHING is going to happen at the last minute and it will be MY fault

I would join Starwood Preferred Guest. It's free, and it may help you get what you want. Just go to www.spg.com. I've never had a bad room at the Dolphin, but there are probably a few out there. I would go to swandolphin.com, and go to special requests under reservations to send them your request about getting rooms close together. Last I heard they assign the rooms on the Friday before your trip. You can also call the tollfree number. The staff is very helpful.

Now for our other potential problem...
I already joined spg but the room isn't in my name, it's in my SIL's because she qualifies for the teacher's rate. We have 2 rooms in her name and 2 rooms in another SIL's name (for the same reason). I told them to join spg but aren't sure they've done it yet! I hope it doesn't matter with the hotel who pays for the rooms, since we will be paying for ours even though the ressie is in her name. I hope this isn't too confusing....
Sometimes I think it would have been easier to have everyone do things on their own, but about half of our family is on an EXTREMELY tight budget, so we're all doing all we can to make it work.

I can't wait to get there so I can just relax and tell everyone to do what they want..my planning is DONE!

We just got back. We got a great room with hotwire, but it was definately already assigned when we got there. I'd email them to try to get the rooms at least on the same floor. I thought it would be huge, but we were in the west wing, and the floors seemed very cozy where we were.

We had our res. at the Swan under my husband's name because he is the one who works for the govt. His brother's res. was also under my husband's name so he could get the govt. rate too. I was able to use the spg card in my name for the points, but we didn't get points for my brother-in-law's room because he paid for his own room. I'm not sure if my brother-in-law is spg or not. He didn't seem to want to be bothered with such details so I didn't bring it up.
