We returned on Sunday from our wonderful Disney trip from 11/10 to 11/18. This was our first time staying at the Dolphin. We used our SPG points for a free week, and added the extra points for a deluxe room with a balcony and a view. When making the reservationsback in May, I had request the East wing for an EPCOT view. We arrived at 3:30pm, and was told that our room would not be ready until 4:30pm. They had another room available, but was told that it was not the better type of room that we had requested. I told her that we would wait for our room. I had requested a fridge and bed railings prior to arriving, but neither were on the reservations. She did add them at that time.

We decided to take a walk over to the Boardwalk while waiting. I received the call at 4:30pm that our room was ready. We picked our keys, and had our luggage sent up to the room. The room was nice and clean when we entered. No musty smell at all. But the view was on the other side of EPCOT. I called to check with the front desk to see if any rooms were available on the side I requested. I was told that the rooms with an EPCOT view are only for customers who are not using SPG points for the week. But they did thank me for being a Gold Card Customer. Hmmmm, not a very good start.

I made a trip downstairs to get our refillable mugs. I was told that they did not have any due to the fact that Disney is redesigning them. They haven't been in for weeks. But to try everyday to see if they are in. Well, they never did come in. Hmmmm, we're now 0 for 2.

The week did get better. Overall, we did enjoy our stay. The room was clean. The pools are great. DS was the only one who would brave the cold water. The water was way to cold for DW and myself. We had a character breakfast at the Garden Grove Cafe at the Swan which was wonderful. And the beds are wonderful! :goodvibes

The only bad points are that we never did get the room location that I requested, no refillable mugs (which I was really looking forward to), they really do nickle and dime you for everything, and I found the Dolphin lobby to be very busy. Maybe next time we'll check out the Swan. I hear that it is not as busy as the Dolphin.

Let me know if anyone has any questions that I may be able to answer.

OK, so now I'm really depressed about not being at Disney World. DW doesn't want to go back next year. She wants to take a year off. DS and I are not thrilled about taking a year off. :scared1:

Just wondering if the Garden Grove Buffet had actual mickey waffles like the other resorts do.

Bummer that you didnt get the view that you were hoping for. What side of Epcot did your room face?

luvmarypoppins:

Yes, they did have Mickey waffles.

Our room was on the opposite side that faced Epcot. Our view was of the lake and the Swan. I do have some photos. As soon as I can, I will post them.

Here is the outside view of our room (#3026).

When I stayed at the Swan/Dolphin, they DID have refillable mugs. Has that changed?

Do you think I could bring my old mug?;)

What toiletry and/or bath items were in your room? I'm packing tonight for our trip to the Dolphin in 8 days - and I'm just taking a carry-on bag. Any little thing I can leave at home will help!

The refillable mugs are all being replaced to a generic version that will not have a specific resort logo from what I understand. It is AMAZING that they had none.

Sounds like a Daddy and Son only vacation to me. :thumbsup2

They had shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, facial soap, and oatmeal soap for the shower. The rooms also have a hair dryer, and an iron and ironing board.

They told me that they haven't had the mugs for a few weeks. They don't know when the new ones will arrive. I was really disappointed that we couldn't get them.

Hmmmmm, that's quite possible...

How did they nickel and dime you for everything? Was is Disney or Dolphin?

It was the Dolphin. Pay to park each day, cost to use the health club, $12 a day to have a fridge for the room, $2.50 for a cup of tea....:scared1: It would have been nice to have the refillable mugs for the week.
