Dolphin or Mods?

we have stayed at the Dolphin twice, and loved it both times. we didn, however, do a split stay both times (only stayred there for a few days, then stayed at a disney resort.)

the first time we got a free upgrade to a blacony room!. I do not like that you have to pay to park, though.. to me, that is ridiculous for apaying guest at the hotel.. I cold see for dinner guests, etc.

loved the heavenly beds!!

two things that both swolphin and Universal resorts have in common:

1) no fridge, while at disney moderates you get a fridge.
2) on site eating is expensive. at the disney moderates, you have food courts (well CSR is pricey). even at disney deluxes, some of ther counter service places are very reasonalbe (mara, at AKL, gasparilla grill at GF)... but picabu, the fountain, even the pool side counter service at swolphin is pricey (IMO). we did not eat there once.

but you can walk to the boardwalk. there was a cart with bratwurst. there is espn club, other cheaper options, than at the resort.

hurricane hannahs (at stormalong bay. beach club) has the same burgers as at beaches and cream, but slightly cheaper. and it is outside the boundary... anyone can order food there, not just beach club guests. not many palces to eat it though, walk over to a bench...

but beaches and cream itself is good.

I would try swan or dolphin once, just to see. the location is great!

Disagree on two points:
1. They do have a mini fridge. They used to have it stocked with a mini bar and you would have to pay to have it emptied. That was years ago.

2. I feel the Dolphin is reasonable, especially Picabu. If you are a AAA member you get discounts as well.

Love the Dolphin and will be back in 117 days.

This thread has me so excited!!! We are staying at the Dolphin for our first trip to Disney World this May. I chose it because we are a large family and my only other options were to rent a 2 bedroom Villa at SS (More money and farther away from the parks), get a Family suite at the Disney Value Resort (Less money but much smaller room and further away from parks) or get two connecting rooms at POR. (Same price as the executive suite at the Dolphin but further from parks). I went with the Dolphin and I have been debating my decision until reading this thread! I have to say when I have called the Dolphin they have been VERY helpful and friendly. Even telling me which was the best deal for our family and going through all the prices of each room with me. I was really impressed. Also, I wanted to tell you, they do offer a private town car instead of a shuttle. At first I was upset about not having Magical Express but I have since read reviews saying it could take a long time to get to your hotel as it makes multiple stops. The town car is private, so it will only have us and car seats are free!! For the 6 of us it was $165 round trip. I didn't think that was bad considering renting a mini van was over 500 and I would have to pay a parking fee on top of it. Have a great vacation!!!

I've been going back and forth between staying at the Dolphin for our May trip (there's a pretty good Expedia deal with 6th night free) or using one of the 30% off Spring deals and staying onsite at one of the mods. If we book through Expedia @ the Dolphin with a car it's only slightly more expensive than staying at one of the mods, however there is a resort fee of $14/day and parking is $15/day. We mostly want the car for eating offsite, Universal, and to/from airport. I mostly am leaning towards the Dolphin mostly because of the convenience to walk to/from Epcot and Studios, even if it's a couple hundred dollars more. Any advice?

I see you are from NY. If you call Swan &Dolphin by 2/29, you can get the super bowl special for Ma, NY residents, every 2nights you you stay you get the 3rd free so six nights pay for 4, or 9nights pay for 6. And NY residents get a free room upgrade. Save $$$
I just booked for Oct.

Forgot to mention rates were Swan 209 per night Dolphin 179 then add on $ 14 resort fee
