Dolphin Grotto pool closed...can we use another pool?

You don't just "roll with it" when it comes to the grotto pool. It is a very unique and beautiful area of the resort. In fact, this area is part of the whole "resort" of the resort. It's not like we're complaining about a small pool at a HoJo being closed down.

The same thing happens when the main pools at other resorts are closed for refurb, the guests must "roll with it", book another resort, or visit at a different time. Sure, Disney will usually allow guests to use the main pool of a nearby resort, but those are Disney owned pools. Not much the Swan/Dolphin can do when their only main pool needs to be refurbed. And honestly, I find going to another pool to swim too much of a hassle anyway.

I could see them doing this with one family, but all the Swan and Dolphin guests? The YC and BC guests would be fuming!!

As a recent (last month) YC guest, your right I would have been fuming. It was tough enough finding a chair or table with just YC/BC guests allowed in the pool area. I can't imagine how crowded the pool would be with additional guests from 2 more resorts.

It costs far more to stay at YC/BC than it does to stay at Swan/Dolphin and one of the reason's we choose to pay so much was for that pool. I have a feeling that one family made a big stink, and thus were given wrist bands to quiet them. I can't imagine them allowing all S/D guests to use that particular pool.

This is not a Disney operated resort. Just like you can't get the dining plan and you can't use Magical Express.

Why should Disney just step up and let these guests who aren't paying to stay in their resorts let them swim in their pools?

None of the value resorts have waterfalls and slides. Those guests aren't able to use the other pools on Disney property. Just like the Disney resort guests can't use the Grotto pool.

The OP in the previous S&D pool thread got bracelets for the SAB pool.

Certainly not saying that they would do this for everyone (nor should), but it is not unprecedented.

Seems they are going to postpone the major refurb until 2013, so they must have gotten the issues they were having under control for now.

While we swim whatever time of year we travel (We were there a few years ago at CSR when it didn't hit 70 except a couple of days, and we still did the main pool, with very few other brave souls), they would have a much easier time explaining to guests that the pool will be closed for refurb in January, when there are usually more non-simming type days.

My two cents is either a) "roll with it" or b) switch resorts.

Personally, I am still sick that dolphin allowed peoria to swim in a pool that looked like it did from the pictures posted. I could never stay there or go in that pool until after the renovations took place just knowing they let people swimm in that.

Honestly, I have a harder time believing that people would want to swim in that. Regardless of what the S/D management did or did not do, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that clear = good; green = bad.

wow! we would never let anyone swim in our own, let alone a public pool that looked like that!
i think allowing S/D guests to use any disney pool (especailly the BWV/BWI or BC/YC/BCV pools as pp mentioned) would be a bad idea.
none of those pools are big enough to accomodate all their resort guests, as well as all S/D guests.
and those who stay at any of the above disney resorts are spending quite a bit to do so (usually significantly more than S/D) - THEIR money is what pays for the pool upkeep and repairs. i would be peeved to find our resort pool over-crowded (one thing that can contribute poor water conditions) b/c of a non-WDW resort pool repairs
hopefully, they get that green out soon.

Having children swim in a lap pool, the fun will last around 20 minutes. When there is a large pool with a waterfall and slide, kids can enjoy it for hours. I do not plan on "rolling with it", when swimming activities will be a large part of the day on a sweltering day in Sept. Since the dolphin is on disney property, disney should step up and let the resort guests use their pools over in the boardwalk area. I am sure the dolphin pays a pretty penny to be on disney property.

I don't know...when I was a kid, I was happy to just be in a pool...

I think when the pool at Swolphin does close it will not be likely that all guests will be allowed to use a Disney resort pool. If lack of a themed pool makes a difference, you may need to look at other resorts. S/D will likely still provide pools, just not a themed pool.

Same here. I'm from England and going to the pool was exciting. I've only ever been swimming in our local pool at the leisure centre once or twice.

We stayed at a travelodge on I-Drive on our first holiday. It was a glorified motel and we had problems sleeping because of people talking and banging doors all night. But it had a pool! That was awesome to nine year old me.

The condo community we stay at in Kissimmee has a very plain pool really. But that doesn't matter to me. In fact, I want to stay at POP someday because the idea of having /four/ pools is awesome.

My point is, what does it matter what the pool looks like as long as it's clean, not green, open and full of water?

And I certainly can't imagine demanding to use a more expensive resort's pool just because mine was closed! I would just switch to a different resort.

Same here.. I think it's the adults who wants the grotto pool much more than the kids. I think the kids will be fine with any pool (even when it's not themed). But if an adult tells a child that it isn't fun without the slide or not fun when it's not themed, then yea.. that's what the child is going to think. JMO.

I think if the themed pool is that important to you or the family, then it's best to start seeking another resort. Instead of planning the trip in a happy mode, it will be in a worry/panic mode. That's not a fun way to plan a Disney trip.

I think any pool can be fine. My DS has always liked hanging in the quiet pools (POR, WL) because we can toss the nurf football back and forth without dodging or bothering other folks.

However, if we have a trip planned and have been looking forward to the Grotto pool, so DS can slide, and the cool waterfall, then there is certainly going to be a letdown if you can't use it.

Also, I don't know about the quiet pool at Dolphin, but the one at Swan has absolutely "zero" shade most of the day, it seems more like adult execs hang there (basically a lap pool) and is not terribly inviting for kids, and that is not great.

We were happy with the quiet pool at POR, but that had a nicer feel to it than the one at Swan.

If most people and children are satisfied with a big rectangular pool, why do you think the dolphin and disney resorts put in pools with slides and have some sort of design??? We are paying extra to stay at a resort with these type of ammentities, if we wanted a square boring pool, I would go to a Comfort Inn or a Fairfield Inn. Swimming is a big part of our vacation, and we would like a fun pool to do so. To each his own.

To people who are saying, "switch resorts", if you followed this story you would realize, that the swan/dolphin has not been forward with if the pool is going to be renovated and when. How can you "switch resorts" when we were given no information???

I disagree. After some initial confusion, augmented in part by some conflicting/speculative posts on these and other threads, the S/D has made it clear on Facebook, Twitter and to those of us who have called the property for clarification, that the original pool refurbishments scheduled for October are now in 2013.

And from what I can tell, the short term issue caused by the malfuntioning filters, appears to have been addressed through immediate remedial actions.

Disney won't simply let Swan/Dolphin guests use the Yacht/Beach pools, but there could be a reciprocal arrangement when they could each send their guests to each other's pools during pool refurbishments. (Possibly with a limit to how many guests are involved on any given day.)
