Dolloar Store Glow sticks, Really????

Yup - we like the cheapo glow sticks, too, and even use them back in the resort pool in the evening. Last time DD and her friend had them around their ankles and wrists and they were the "star attraction" at the pool. This time DD won't have a friend with her and I'm going to bring glow sticks so she can use them as a ice breaker (she's a shy kid) with other kids in the pool.

IMHO, I would hate to pay $20 for one of those glowing spinning things at WDW .... and then end up dragging it back to the hotel and trying to make room to pack the darn thing! I feel the same way about the water bottles with the fan atop them - heavy to carry around and bulky to pack.

We also bring glow sticks and let my DD give them out to other children around us. My children love them. We keep a Disney Box and pick up things and put them in it, and it is already started even though we do not leave until December. :rotfl2: I found the cutest pirate shirt for DS and put it in there already...he is not getting it this summer!!:lmao: My children also have an allottment for souveniers and if they choose a light up thing than they are able to becuase it is their money. I find that they would rather have something else because of the glow sticks.

Have fun!!

Yes we bring glow sticks from home. I have bought them at the Dollar Store, Michael's and Walmart.

But remember to pack them in your chekced luggage if you are flying not your carry on luggage. Made that mistake once! Security really screened our bags, I told them to throw them out but they still kept checking!

We get the ones from Michael's. We used them on our last trip when DS was just 2. We called them bravery bracelets. Everytime we went on a dark ride that he got scared on he would look down to his glow sick bracelet and be brave. Worked like a charm in the haunted mansion and pirates.

Love this idea--will have to use this summer!!!

the dollar store glow sticks are fun & all that, but have to say (in defense of Disney) that some of the light-up stuff they sell is actually fairly reasonable and lasts for quite a long time, without the potential mess you can get from the glow-stick necklaces. We took some of those from Michaels last May, and in the course of "snapping" them to activate, several of them broke open & got all over the clothes (this was a 19 yr. old, not a little kid. So she was being careful. Was just defective product.)

Last year, when we (4 adults) attended a MNSSHP last year & saw the light-up necklaces Disney sells (that look kind of like Christmas rope-lights ) - decided they'd be fun addition to our t-shirt costumes, and you can turn them off when you're on any of the dark rides. They lit up multi-colored and did a "chasing" pattern. The cost was only $5 and not only did they last all night (5 hours worth of party) but it still lights up 6 months later, just as bright as when I bought it. A mom standing next to us in the parade said her kids' had lasted through night-time parades/fireworks on 3 weeks worth of vacations over 2 years (she keeps them in the suitcases between trips.) She also said if you buy one, keep the receipt, because if it's already running down at the end of the night you buy it, they will exchange it for another.

Now those spinning toys, yeah, they are quite pricey, and agree you can find similar toys for a lot less.

What I really dislike are those bubble guns they sell...never fails some brainless parent ignores the kid in the stroller who is shooting bubbles directly into the face of every kid & short adult passing his stroller:rolleyes1

Really, you can't have them in your carry on?

It's b/c the insides are liquid, and they aren't marked with ounces. It's possible your particular TSA agent looking at your carryons will let you, but if you don't get that nice TSA agent, they'll go in the garbage.
