Dollar Wildcard Special

I booked the "special" with Dollar through Hotwire. I am gauranteed a mid- size or larger at the compact rate of $204.93 for 8 days in May. I can cancel ths reservation at any time, if I find something better. Don't know why this is allowed but I do have it in writing. I also have a reservation with Alamo for around $181 but it is for a compact.
Anyone ever booked this with Dollar? I've never used them before. What type of car did you end up with? Also can anyone tell me anything about Dollar?

I've had good luck with them. Believe the mid size will be a Sonata, full size is a Charger.

When I did the "special" they tried to put my family of 4 in a PT Cruiser. This was a specialty car which is why it was "bigger" than a mid-size. We ended up getting a Sonata. In my experiance everytime we did this we always got the midsize.

Just did it this week. Was allowed to pick from the specialty area and grabbed a Ford Explorer. Other choices were Mercury Grand Marquis and Jeep Patriot.

Thanks everyone for the info. I didn't realize that you could choose your own car. I just knew that they had to provide us with a mid-size or larger. It there a specific aisle that we get to choose from?
I was also a little concerned because my reservations states that the total was "estimated". Thought they might try to charge us more once we returned the car since it isn't billed until then.

The choosing part was a first for me as well. Every other time i have simply been handed keys to a car, and that was it.



The estimated bit can refer to a possibility of taxes being changed, but it could also mean fuel charges, CDW, GPS, E-toll device use, parking/traffic tickets or anything else that will run up extra charges.

I booked the same special for two weeks in Oct. $358 for the two weeks didn't seem too bad, and like you said if I find it cheaper I'll cancel. I have used Dollar before without any problems!
