Hi,

do dollar offer you upgrades at the airport and if so, is it cheaper than booking in advance?

H has decided he would like a convertible but I am guessing at this time of year, they would pretty much be all booked out.

Oh, I am sure dollar will suggest an upgrade! Dont look too keen and you might get a deal.

However, the Chrysler Sebring is a nice car, but I swapped it for a luxury car after a couple of days (an Chrysler LHS at the time). I got an amazingly burnt forehead after three days... It hurt to frown!

I would say that if you are driving around Disney and the I4, a convertible sounds nicer than it is in reality.

Hi
We've always found it MUCH cheaper to upgrade here.

How soon are you going and which airport? has to be the question, ring whoever you have booked the car through and ask them can you upgrade now, the sooner you do it the more chance you have of all the cars not being allocated.

We had one last year on our honeymoon, made very good use of some wedding present money, we both got factor 30 for our foreheads!!!! plus you can put the sun shade up and it acts as a wind buffer so you avoid wind burn.

Our only problem is once youv'e had a convertable no other car is quite the same to drive in the Florida sunshine

Have a really good holiday

Hi just wanted to say that it is deffinatly cheeper to up-grade and to buy car insurance when you get there, I have been a few times there on holiday and going back very soon, I work for a travel agents and have always found it more expensive to buy here in the uk, but you do have to know what your buying regarding insurance as there is a lot of extra's you dont need.

Hope you have a happy holiday, where are you staying?

Thanks

we don't know where we are staying yet!! we will be located a villa on arrival.

I dont particularly want a car upgrade but H is keen so we'll wait and see what they offer us.

Thanks

Lisa

My DH is a 'negotiating king' and will always try to get them to reduce their upgrade prices - and, it nearly always works. So it's worth a try.

Calvin makes the point that you should book here to get the car you want. In reality it makes little difference - it's all covered in the small print - if they've not got what you thought you'd booked, tough. That's less likely to happen at a large aiport like Orlando where they have huge fleets, but we often fly into smaller airports and it happens all the time.

When my husband and I got married we went to florida for our honeymoon we upgarded our car to a convertible one which was really nice to have, but in the evening after i had been in the sun all day i felt the cold when driving around so i made him put the roof on which he wasn't to pleased about. In the day it's quite nice but make sure you wear a hat as the sun is really hot and is easy to get sunburnt. Your have a lovely time let me know how is went when you get home. I last went back in 1998 so a lot changed since then.

Thanks

We had a convertible a few years ago and it was just too hot, even with the climate control on 'arctic' ;) The leather seats were unbearable and I can also vouch for the burnt forehead!

I would still recommend an upgrade, there's no point in slumming it :teeth:

Hi,
I've upgraded to a convertable at the Dollar desk and got a good deal, but you MUST be prepared to haggle. I ended up paying a third of the original upgrade price by just threatning to walk away..! Absolutely luved the car a hat is a good idea though especially if you DH is thinning on top as I am....:teeth:

Mick.
