Dollar Rental Car Questions

Per mousesavers.com, I revised my rental from KISS2 to corporate code oi1054 (or something like that, check it out!).....I just dropped my 9-day luxury from $430 to $365!

But go to mousesavers. It looks like you need to get a preferred Orlando's Visitor card (which is free). Links are there.....

What kinds of cars have you all been getting at Dollar lately?

I'm debating between an intermediate and a full-size. It is just me, DH & our 9 yo DS we will be taking probably 4 large bags total. We will be spending some time driving around, more than usual, because of our ADRs and visitng some other areas so we want to be comfy.

The site is showing Chrysler Sebrings as an example of an intermediate but I've not seen many of these (not to sit in or anything) and a Dodge Charger as a full-size, I've not even seen one of these in person, lol!

The price difference for the week is less than $12, would you get the full-size?

I've been seeing that many of you have had good experiences with using the Dollar Express, anyone arrive on a Sat morning? How were the lines?

I'm concerned because we've never rented with Dollar, we have had great results with Alamo/National and recently tried, but didn't love, Hertz. What if you get to the car and reeks of smoke or something? Do you have to go back to the terminal or is there a kiosk in the garage?

Wouldn't the KISS2 code go in the promo box and the oi code in the corporate code box? That's what I did. You have to first click on the Specials link on the Dollar page to get both boxes to pop up and put both sets of info in there. HTH!

I tried using both at the same time, but it seems the promo code overrides the corporate code. In my case, using ONLY the corporate code is cheaper than using the KISS2 promo or the combination of both.....

Try it out!

We have a great rate for minivan already on reserve for December with Dollar. If I sign up for Dollar Express, will it somehow mess up the rate on the previous reservation (current prices are more than double what we've got)? How does the sign-up process work? Does it have to be done over the internet, or can it be done on the phone with an agent? TIA

I just made a reservation this morning through Dollar. When I tried to do it online with the "Kiss2" code it would not allow the discount. So I called and talked to an agent and she overided the system and gave me the discount. I told her I did not see a expiration date associated with the code. I reserved a compact (Dodge Caliber) from Jan 23-27th for a total of $145.60. I am happy with that. :cool1:

I don't think that you could sign up for it over the phone since technically you are suppose to actually read all of the user agreement :smooth:

But, if you signed up for Dollar Express online (it will require you to provide them with both credit card info and your driver's license info to keep on file) you can then call and agent --once you have your Express number and they can add it to your existing reservation without changing the rate. Or at least without increasing your rate. When my friend signed up, they actually lowered her rate for being an Express member. No such luck for me though.

I have used Dollar many times in other cities and have been very pleased with their service. Looking forward to using them in Orlando next week.

If you sign up for Dollar express and rent a car, do they charge you when you make the reservation or do you pay at the end of the rental? Also, I couldn't find it, if you cancel, how far in advance do you need to cancel? TIA!!

I called them and they did say that you can only sign up on-line.

Same question as the previous poster---If I sign up for Dollar Express and have them add the dollar express number to my reservation, when do they charge me? I'm assuming it's still when we RETURN the car, right?

I'm also assuming that by adding a Dollar Express number to the reservation, it's guarantying the car, so that I'd now get charged if i'm a "no-show," right?
(Not that I try to be a no-show....)

Signing up for Dollar Express doesn't change when they charge you for the rental. I honestly don't know if they charge you the full amount on the first day of rental (when you pick it up) or on the last day of rental (when you return the car) but if you make the reservation today for next January, you don't get charged the rental today.

By being a Dollar Express member, at least in Orlando means that they will assign you a specific car but I'm not sure how far in advance that assignment is made. I would call Dollar directly to be sure of what their cancellation policy is-- I've never tried a "no show". I've been early or late with no trouble but I don't know what would happen if you just didn't show up.

In my recent experience with them, they held the rental amount on the CC but didn't actually charge the card until I returned it. We rented a car for 2 weeks while we were there.

We just returned, rented two weeks from Dollar using Kiss code approx $98 a week base rate for a compact. I had signed up with Dollar Express some time ago, they do not have my current credit card info on file, but no problem. I gave it to them when I picked up the car. When we went to the garage to pick up the car, it was actually a full size, no change in price. No problems whatsoever.

FYI: I contact the "Kissimmee Convention & Visitor Bureau" this morning to see if there is a new Dollar Rental code for next year yet. I told her that the KISS2 code was not showing the appropriate rate when I used it for my January dates. The person I talked to called their marketing department and they said that the new code (which she said will probably stay KISS2) will be activated in the system sometime in the next week.

I thought I had originally gotten a good rate but now that I have read a few threads I think I should be able to do better once this code is working for 2007.

Is there anyway to request a specific type of minivan? We've got a scooter, so a bigger back would be helpful. Would my best bet be to use Dollar Express, with a specific car assigned, or not to use Dollar Express and then explain to the agent what we need? TIA
