I just booked a good deal ($233 for 11 days end of October) for a mid-size car from Dollar. We usually rent from Alamo, but so far their prices are outrageous. I know that prices will most likely come down as we get closer to our dates, but I was wondering what people thought of Dollar? Any fans or any big complaints? :confused3

I've rented Dollar before, although I, too, prefer Alamo. They are fine. Cars are all in the same location, so that isn't an issue. The downside to Dollar is that they don't have anything like Alamo's kiosks to get you in and out quickly. You have to go to a counter. I haven't rented from them in a while, so I don't know if they still give you a specific set of keys when you get your contract--vs. Alamo, where you just pick a car off a certain aisle.

I use Dollar whenever I rent at MCO. Get the Dollar Express card. It is free to sign up on their web site. When you go to the counter, there is a separate line for card holders. Has saved my 30-45 minutes on many occasions.

Thanks for the answers! You helped relieve my mind. I was a little nervous when I saw on their website that they put a fairly large hold on your credit card from when you pick the car up until you return the car.

I will definitely get one of those Dollar cards.

Dollar has been by far the worst rental experience we have ever had. We rented from them last October. It was a first-last-only experience. Our complaints were the condition of the vehicles available (dirty in/out, high miles, exterior dings/dents), and the agent behind the counter. She was foul and rude. She tried to tell us that we needed the prepaid toll transponder, and that we needed a bigger vehicle (at a bigger cost), and copped major attitude when we politely told her thanks but no thanks on both counts.

That's just our experience. Hopefully it's not indicative of most experiences with them, but they lost any future business from us.
