Dollar is now requiring that folks refill their tanks within seven miles of the airport. Be sure you have a receipt from a gas station in that range.

They tried this stunt on me. I did not have a receipt. (The 7-11 I stop at does not appear to be able to print receipts at the pump and it is WELL within 7 miles) I went inside, found a manager and provided him with a new body opening.... the fee was removed. I also explained that he might want to check my rental history since Dollar had just lost a customer. He must have done that. I received a "free day" coupon from Dollar, but I probably won't use it. (There were other problems with the car and this was not the first location we had had issues at. THis was a business rental and based on some issues we have just left Dollar)

So folks can expect to have to do that extra work if they don't want to pay extra for refueling.

Which is a shame because even with the extra work of getting a receipt for refilling within seven miles of the airport, Dollar is still a better deal than Hertz, Avis, National and Alamo.

Actually for my business travels we got a much better deal with both National and Hertz.....

I agree that it's a hassle. Which as I pointed out the manager I hoped he had a LOT of spare time on his hands to deal with complaints. I also said that I would be glad to accompany the car to the refueling center. I doubted they could get half a gallon in there if they tried and that half a gallon even at their horrid rates was LESS then the guy tried to charge me. (It did not help that the guy checking me in tried to tell me that DIRT on the car was damage :rotfl2: My coworker reached over and "wiped" the damage away I guess he is a miracle worker!)

We tend to fill up near the airport anyway, so its no big deal to us. We then get snacks and soda, magazines for in the airport a nd return flight as its cheaper there. We always use Dollar - good service and cheapest price.

I think that's ridiculous. When I do rent, I never rent from them anyway.

I always fill up at the Circle K near the airport anyway, so this is not an issue with me.

Somehow, Carol, I think I can see that, LOL.

Does not sound like the type of company I would rent from, regardless how cheap.

I am not familiar with the gas stations close to the airport - I always fill up at one approx 11 miles away. Any ideas of how I can find them, aside from driving around on the morning I need to return the car? ;)

That is so crazy. If the tank says FULL its FULL. I can't believe that they can do that. I don't see anything about this on my reservation paperwork. I am going to call and see. Still, they beat out ALAMO, NATIONAL and AVIS by $400 so if I have to pay $10.00 for a gallon of gas I will but I still can't beleive that they can do that without having it written somewhere!!!

It's posted; that's sufficient.

They do tend to consider every mark on the car new damage that you unquestionably caused. I will be taking my camcorder now and doing a thorough sweep of the car from now on. If they try to say anything, I'll have good fun forcing the issue that I want proof of the employee who tried to commit the fraud on me being fired.

Having said that, they're still half the price of the big guys, and provide twice the quality of service of Alamo.

Leaving Disney watch carefully for signs to I-4 East, then exit I-4 onto 528 East (Beach Line). Get off 528 at its exit 9 Tradeport-Conway, left at bottom of ramp, cross under, and nice cheap gas station is right there on left. You are about two miles from the airport.

If you pay at the pump but no receipt comes out you can always run inside to get a receipt.

Leaving this gas station, get into middle lane away from 528, required right onto McCoy, Payless is a little way down on the left or keep on going to next light (Semoran) left for Hertz and Thrifty, right for on-airport rental agencies.

I always filled my tank near WDW and assumed the previous renter did the same. The gauge reads full when I get the car and reads full when I return it. I certainly hope Dollar is topping off the cars. I'd hate to think they're charging the customer who's returning the car and expecting the next renter to be filing it.

I just pay for the gas upfront and if it was a less then desirable rental I let the car run until it alsmost runs out JK of corse but they want to exstact every $$$ they can and this is a new easy way.

Lol bicker, do you work for them? :)

I've rented from them twice, not at MCO, but in other locations and was not that impressed with the service or the price. And for an MCO rental I've yet to have a Dollar quote beat Nat'l, Alamo, Budget or Avis so we've never rented from them there.

but this time Dollar beat the National price by.........$400!! Ummm it was an easy decision. We went with Dollar.

I always agressively price-compare rental car companies, and Dollar beats National, Avis and Hertz every time, by about half. Budget is comparable, but I've had better service with Dollar. Alamo is cheaper but provides utterly abomitable customer service.

maybe we should stop at a gas station upon leaving the dollar counter to insure that the tank that we leave with is full, if not bring that receipt to them for a discount, this policy is a joke i'm sure that if you have issues and speak to a manager the policy will be waved.

This is the craziest thing I've heard. A full tank is a full tank. Looks as if I won't rent from Dollar.

having read thru this entire thread, I'vd not seen anything on what Dollar does if you don't have the receipt....if the gauge says Full, they don't have much of a leg to stand on. No receipt, charge you for a full tank even if it says full??????? Without knowing the penalty, if any, it's hard to make a cogent comment on the whole thing. :confused3
