For those of you who have used Dollar's Lock Low 'n Go price, what class of car did they assign to you? I'm wondering if it's worth it for our family of five to take a chance on it or book with Alamo for a full-size car. I currently have reservations for both.

Thanks!

From Dollar's website:

Be sure to select "Lock Low and Go" as your car class and you'll get:
  • A rate that is equal to a Compact car
  • A Compact car or larger vehicle
  • Location determines vehicle at time of pick-up
  • Vehicle will have at least 5 seat belts
  • Room for 2 pieces of luggage or more
Personally, I wouldn't trust that with my family of 5. Sure, there's 5 seat belts, but only guaranteed room for 2 pieces of luggage? Nope, sorry.

I suggest looking into National's Emerald Aisle program (free sign up): https://www.nationalcar.com/en_US/car-rental/loyalty/enrollment/emeraldaisle.html. Then YOU pick the car you want.

We also have access to the Magical Express, which is why I'm not too concerned and willing to take the chance. If we all don't fit into the car (people and luggage), we can have an adult take the ME and still get our luggage delivered.

True. Think about the logistics though... you get off the plane and go to baggage claim. You wait for your bags (I'm assuming a family of five will have at least 2 checked bags assuming a week long trip, maybe 3, plus carry ons), then get them all over to the parking garage (where the rental car companies are located). You go to the Dollar kiosk (or do you have to go to the counter inside?), get assigned your car, then find out it's too small. No problem, plan B, right? So the adult now needs to get back to Magical Express WITH all the luggage that won't fit in the car. But they may need to change concourses (rental cars are available on both A & B side, DME is only on B side IIRC).

While I appreciate the 'Plan B', I personally wouldn't want to take the chance. My 'Plan B' (if I really wanted to use Dollar's lock low and go) is to plan for one adult (and maybe one child for company) to ride DME. Put the yellow tags on all the checked luggage. The other adult (and other kids) get the rental car. The best of both worlds... you get a rental car and you don't have to deal with the checked luggage.
