Hi all!!! Arriving so soon , can't wait !!!! simple question: Is the Gas tank full when you get your rental car at pick up? Just figured it must be if you have to leave it that way . Thanks all Cheffy
Yes, it should be full. I've only had 1 instance (and it wasn't with Dollar) where the tank was only 1/2 full. The rental company filled the tank before I left (after I reported it).
Just a side note... I was down by the Airport area the other day, including by all the rental car areas, and I noticed that gas in that area was amazingly cheap. The cheapest I've seen in MONTHS.
Typically, gas in the Disney area is $1.69 on property, and $1.79 off property. In the greater Orlando area, it averages $1.55 lately. However, by the airport, I noticed it was around $1.46-$1.49!!
I'm sure it will change in time, but for the time being, I made sure to fill up!!
Some rental companies give you the car not full and expect you to bring it back the same way. However you should ask to have the gas going out reported as rounded down to the nearest eighth even if the gauge needle is closer to the eighth above. The rental company is sure to round down when the car comes back.
This does not describe all the shenanigans that rental companies can (not necessarily will) do to shortweight and shortchange you on gas, for example if they did fill it up at the start they pull out the nozzle as soon as it clicks off but when the car comes back they cram in and top off as much as they can to declare that you didn't fill it enough.
I paid $1.61 at the gas station across from Downtown Disney last Monday. I used National, it was full when I got it, I filled it before going to the airport, no problem.
