Dole Whip - why so special?

While not wide spread, I do think you can get Dole Whip outside of Mk/Poly and the Dole Plantation. Disneyland has it and I've seen it at my local yogurt shop. I don't think they can call it "Pineapple Dole Whip" if it's not Dole Whip.

That's correct, which is why I said a "true" Dole whip made with pineapple/juice from Dole. Dole is the inventor of it, but you can likely find frozen custard/yogurt and pineapple mix anywhere.

Actually, Dole Whip is just the ice cream like ingredient and you can get that LOTS of places outside of Disney. Now, if you're talking about the specific float with specific pineapple juice, maybe that's different. But "Dole Whip" is the name of a product that's sold in many places.

As the PP said, I don't think you could call it "Dole Whip" unless it was "true" Dole Whip. "Dole Whip" isn't like saying vanilla; it's the name of a specific product. It's kind of like saying vanilla Bryer's ice cream. Any company can make vanilla ice cream, but you can't call it Bryer's unless it's made by Bryer's.

For some reason, I think Disneyland's Dole Whip tastes better than WDW's. My family has been to Disneyland 5 times and we had to get the Dole Whip every time. We finally went to WDW the first time last year. Tried the Dole Whip at MK and didn't like it that much.

I must say no one in my family is a fan...even my pineapple loving youngest. Got it once and never again.

I wish all these people that didn't like it weren't in line every time I walked by. :p

Dole whips are just very refreshing in the summer Florida heat. DS9 and I get the pineapple/vanilla swirl in a float and we both love it. DH eggs the pineapple soft serve in a cup, and DS7 likes either pineapple/vanilla swirl in a cup or just vanilla in a cup. The only other place we can get it that is remotely close to home is Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA but we live in brooklyn, NY and we go to Lancaster once or twice a year. We always get Dole Whips at Dutch wonderland too.

So I guess for us, it's one of those WDW trip snacks we never pass up, and it is so refreshing in that heat and really helps cool us off a bit!

OK, so I gotta ask. I keep hearing about this famous Dole Whip. Now, I like ice cream like most people, but with all the yummy snacks that I've read about, what is so special about this? It just looks like pineapple flavoured ice cream.
(Maybe because I'm a chocolate lover, that other stuff seems better from pictures)

Nostalgia? A lot of people not big on chocolate, too. My dh really liked it, but he likes fruity candies, etc. I'd rather have a Mickey ice cream bar, a fancy shake, or a sundae. I tried it for the first time this last trip. Dh had the all pineapple float and I got a float with orange ice cream and pineapple juice. I gave about half of mine to the kids. My son really liked it, too. I thought it was meh. It is very unlikely that I would get another one.

I do love the Dole Whip, and get one every trip to WDW.

Maybe I was there at a weird time, but I walked past the Aloha Isle stand once and there were these HUGE lines on both sides. I was like "oh, no way."

Walked by an hour or so later - absolutely no lines whatsoever.

So if there's a huge line, I suggest just checking back later. This may not work during truly busy times. YMMV.

I'm kind of afraid to try it now lol. I've never had it and on my trip later this year, I decided I should see what the hype is about. Now I'm kind of just like :confused3
