Dole Whip - Please Explain

To me a Dole Whip is the Pineapple one. And its amazing!!

Ive never had it as a float though

I recently discovered that Orange Leaf Yogurt has something that tastes very much like a Dole Whip. Next time I may take some pineapple juice along to make it a float. :) It will do until I can get the real thing!

Glad to see there are a few others here who don't "get" the whole Dole Whip mania.

When I started reading these boards and hearing about it, I was very confused. There's a little seasonal ice cream place a mile down the road from me and they serve regular ice cream, soft ice cream and Dole Whip (which comes in all kinds of flavors!). I've had it there and didn't think much of it. Give me the regular soft serve any day! So when I started hearing about "Dole Whip" here in such glorious, high praise ways, I thought for sure it must be something different. Why would people be oh-so-crazy over this stuff? But they are!

I guess to each their own, but there are soooooo many other Disney snacks I'd rather have than a Dole Whip!

(and the ingredients, especially once they got rid of the crystallized pineapple from the product in the last year or so, ARE just a conglomeration of chemicals not normally associated with food)

Well, it's not like the average Disney snack is, by any reasonable definition of the term, "natural." :p At least in terms of the kiosks and quick service places, most of what you get has preservatives, conditioners, softeners, artificial flavors, and other things that I as a home baker would consider "additives" in it, not all to the benefit of how the final product tastes.

I'm on vacation, though -- so I keep my expectations low, and as long as it takes care of my hunger or thirst and convinces my brain it tastes sufficiently foodish while doing so, I'm good. And I'm generally hot and thirsty enough that cold and sufficiently liquid things get a pretty easy pass. :upsidedow

Why would people be oh-so-crazy over this stuff? But they are!

Food is all about associations. A lot of people can only get Dole Whip at Disney, so it says "Disney" to them. :)

Yeah, I had one last year, after seeing it raved about here, and I was seriously underwhelmed. I think I forced myself to eat half of it because I felt like I SHOULD like it, but blech.

I felt like this just last week when I tried the citrus swirl. After hearing such good things about it I passed by my beloved dole whip float to try the citrus swirl.:crazy2: it was way to sour tasting. I prefer my as some would like to call it overly sweet dole whip float. I like mixing the pineapple ice cream into the juice making it a smoothie. I choked down the citrus swirl mainly eating only the vanilla ice cream part and threw the orange part out.

Menchies also has a pineapple yogurt that tastes like dole whip too.

Perhaps it can only be properly appreciated in the FL heat?

A lot of things are only good in the right weather IMO.

My daughters and I split the pineapple float - tasty but very sweet!

After seeing many wonderful posts about the Dole Whip I decided it was finally time to try. So off we go to order one. Uh oh! There is not an item just called "Dole Whip". So which one is it? We ordered one of the two, but I don't think it's what everyone was raving about. Please enlighten me on the full name of this delectable treat. Thanks!

We always get the pineapple Dole Whip float...pineapple soft serve w/ pineapple juice. It's soooo good!

Most overrated and over-hyped thing in WDW. My wife grew up and Hawaii and we eat fresh pineapple at least weekly. Dole whip in every form sucks. The canned pineapple juice in the float is particularly egregious.

I love the dole whip!!! I get one every time I go to WDW! I like the pineapple and vanilla swirl :) yum!

We like the twist with pineapple and vanilla. Takes away some of the tart, but still great pineapple taste!

We had these plenty when we lived in Hawaii at the Dole Plantation. I think I'll skip the WDW version during our trip lol.

Pineapple Bliss.

With brainfreeze if you eat it too fast.

I think that it's just OK so we never get these. I could go for a Mickey bar right now though.

Just to clear up any confusion. There are 7 flavors of Dole Whip soft serve. All are lactose free but only the fruit flavors are dairy free. At Aloha Isle they serve 3, orange, vanilla and pineapple, and just pineapple (maybe vanilla) at the poly.

Many places across the country serve it.

You can buy the same dry mix everyone uses including in Hawaii from at least one online source. You can use a regular home ice cream maker but a home soft serve is better.

Oh and most people when they say dole whip they mean the pineapple flavor.
