After seeing many wonderful posts about the Dole Whip I decided it was finally time to try. So off we go to order one. Uh oh! There is not an item just called "Dole Whip". So which one is it? We ordered one of the two, but I don't think it's what everyone was raving about. Please enlighten me on the full name of this delectable treat. Thanks!

its either with or without the pineapple juice.

its the same stuff either way. ( with the juice is called a Float)

Think the custard from Rita's only non dairy and pineapple flavored. Think there is orange too now but pineapple is the original.

Here's the menu from Ahola Isle at Magic Kingdom. All of these involve the Dole Whip soft serve. It's the pineapple flavor Dole Whip that's the famous one, and I think it's the float with the pineapple soft serve that's the classic "Dole Whip" dessert.

Dole Whip Soft-serve Pineapple, Vanilla, or Orange 3.79
Dole Whip Soft-serve Swirl with your choice of Pineapple, Vanilla, or Orange 3.79
Pineapple Float Vanilla, Pineapple, or Orange Dole Whip with Pineapple Juice 4.99

Aloha Isle in MK serves four different non-dairy flavors of "soft serve." It's not ice cream because it's non-dairy. The flavors are pineapple, orange, vanilla, or "swirl", which is vanilla swirled with another flavor.

When people on the DIS refer to a "Dole Whip", they're usually talking about the pineapple soft serve (pineapple is the original flavor). You can also get a Dole Whip Float, which is the pineapple soft serve combined with pineapple juice.

I really like pineapple Dole Whip - one of the local yogurt shops in my area recently started carrying it, and I'm really glad! It's a little bit of WDW right in my neighborhood!

Pineapple float made with pineapple soft serve = heaven. :)

You probably had what is referred to as Dole Whip here.

Don't feel bad about not understanding what everybody is raving about. I've had it, thought it was ok, but it wasn't something I thought was a must have. :confused3 Some people love it, some people think it's ok and I'm sure some people hate it.

I'm So glad I found this. I learned about the dole whips on the boards here as well but didn't know there were different flavors!
Y'all saved me from the moment I'm ordering one and looking like a noob for not knowing.( Even though I am lol but I'm studying disboards so its ok!)

I think the pineapple float with pineapple juice is amazing. But for me it is a split dessert. It is probably a diabetics nightmare, it is super sweet.

Dole Whip = Pineapple Flavored Creamie (Cone or Dish)
Dole Whip Float = Pineapple Flavored Creamie in a glass with Pineapple Juice

So no... it's not something you can order on-line. In WDW it is available at the Aloha Isle which is a small "ice cream stand" near Jungle Cruise/Pirates/Tiki Room. It's just a snack like a Mickey Bar. Personally I love Dole Whip Floats but have never had the desire for just a Dole Whip.

I also believe it is available at one other place on property at WDW, but I don't remember if it was a resort or something else. I'm sure someone else will clarify that for us.

My very first bite of the pineapple Dole Whip, my brain couldn't seem to figure out what to make of it -- it tasted like plastic or some weird conglomeration of chemicals not normally associated with food. It didn't taste icky bad, just... not like food, somehow. :p But it was wet and cold and I liked the texture, so I took another couple of bites; suddenly it tasted like pineapple, and it's tasted like pineapple ever since. :confused3

I like it pretty well, but I'm still a wee bit nervous when I take that first bite. I'm thinking the people that hate it, their brain never decides, "Oh, it's supposed to taste like pineapple!" :upsidedow Although actually I can't remember anyone saying they hated Dole Whip -- does regularly show up on "over rated" lists, though.

Captain Cook's, at the Poly.

You can get the mix online somewhere, but I've never cared enough to track it down. And there's a great copy-cat recipe that uses crushed pineapple and real whipping cream; I'm hoping Disney's version is not quite so full of saturated fat!

OP, I'm confused about where you were ordering it? Because as far as I know it's called a Dole Whip at the few places at WDW (and DLR) that sell it.

Tasted like plastic to me, too. For me, if it tastes like plastic (and the ingredients, especially once they got rid of the crystallized pineapple from the product in the last year or so, ARE just a conglomeration of chemicals not normally associated with food) I have no interest in continuing to eat it, so I didn't. Melted, pineapple-flavored, plastic.

I am as close to hating the Dole Whip as I feel like getting. So there's one for ya. :)

I didn't know it was non-dairy! That's why I never had issues with it (I'm Lactose Intolerant...) Wish I had some right now...

I think OP was confused because Aloha Isles menu board says "Dole Whip soft serve" and then has three flavors listed underneath (pineapple, vanilla, or orange). I tend to call is just "Dole Whip" but I mean the pineapple version. Saying "Dole Whip" is a little like saying "Breyers" when talking about ice cream. Technically "Dole Whip" is the brand name and pineapple, orange, and vanilla are the specific flavors.

At Disneyland, the sign board says "Pineapple Dole Whip Soft Serve". The yogurt shop near my house also calls it "Pineapple Dole Whip" or "Raspberry Dole Whip", so they put the flavor in front of the brand name.

I was craving a nice soft serve vanilla ice cream so I ordered one from Aloha Isle. It tasted horrible, not like ice cream and now I know why.It ended up in the trash before I saw the Tiki birds.

Yeah, I had one last year, after seeing it raved about here, and I was seriously underwhelmed. I think I forced myself to eat half of it because I felt like I SHOULD like it, but blech.

Thanks for the clarification! The menu said Dole Whip Soft Serve and Dole Whip Float. Was curious which one people raved about. We went with the soft serve in pineapple and it was good. Glad I tried, but this chocolate girl prefers the chocolate malts. Now that's heaven to me!

Me too if you live anywhere near a good soft serve place like I do I was really underwhelmed with there vanilla soft serve dole whip float, it did not taste like th quality soft serve we have here in the Philadelphia area.
