Dole Whip _ I didn't have to go to WDW to try one

With all the raves about Dole Whips at WDW, and the fact that I never saw or heard of them elsewhere, I was curious if I was really missing out on something spectacular, even thought I might try one in August if the mood strikes.

Tonight DD and I went to a local mini-golf and ice-cream shop. They had Dole Whips! in mango and vanilla. I tried the mango, in a kiddie cone in case I didn't really like the flavor. It tasted like an orange creamsicle, but until I try the pineapple flavor I can't say that they are anything special, just flavored soft-serve ice cream.

I don't get Dole Whips. Pineapple soft serve. I don't know if it's because people can't find them at home(I can get them around here if I look hard enough and always at the county fairs in summer) or what. It's an absolute mystery to me.

I was expecting something really spectacular when I tried one last year. I was not impressed at all. I guess I don't get it either. :confused3

I don't get the attraction either. And yes, I did try the supposedly extra-fabulous Dole Whip float.

Wow--so happy to hear I'm not the only one less than impressed by the "Dole Whip" at MK in Adventureland, just across the entry bridge by Crystal Palace. I waited in line with the expectation of being blown away 3 years ago on a trip....ugh....it was bland, basically tasteless...I was so disappointed. But judging by the lines a couple of weeks ago, I'm still in the minority.:woohoo:

The Dole Whip floats are actually pretty good, but not something I have to run thru MK to get. I'd normally rather have something else. I think it's been 2 years since I had anything from that stand. I can get pineapple sherbet at home and pour juice over it easily.

Same thing with the pineapple and caramel from Ohana. I love it, but like the bread pudding better. I have a fresh pineapple in my kitchen right now. I can cut it up, pour some caramel sauce over it and I'm good to go.

I love WDW. I love the food. I just don't think that just because its at WDW it's something I have to have. What's really strange to me is that most of the things people get so excited about are things you can get at home, or simple things that really don't taste outstanding. Oh well.

Wait a minute, are you talking about Dole whip or Dole Whip Float? The Floats are super, but I think that it is the pinapple juice that makes it. I have tried just the dole whip and it wasn't so spectacular, but add the cold refreshing pinapple juice , with juice and whip on each spoonful and yum!!!
If you haven't tried it with the juice ie, the float, you haven't really tried it at all! It is a totally different experience.:wizard:

DH loves them. I on the other hand could careless if I ever tasted on again. BTW I love pinapples.

I had the float. To me it is the same bland stuff, just with pineapple juice. :confused3 I'd rather just get the juice. But I can get pineapple juice at home too.

We really like them because we are always so hot and they are cool and refreshing. Plus, we love pineapple. We think they are lighter and more refreshing than a vanilla cone.

My DH is fanatic about Dole Whip Floats. There's something about seeing a banana tree in the general WDW area that first makes him think about Adventureland, and then wouldn't you know it, he starts talking about Dole Whip Floats. He can't survive a MK day without one. I really think it's all about food memory triggers (a distinct flavor that happily reminds him of past trips). Oddly, he's never wanted to try and recreate one at home (like, adding pineapple juice to vanilla ice cream).

But hey, if that's what floats his boat (pun intended), I'm cool with his obsession. I certainly have my own myriad of food faves at WDW.

I agree! They are really refreshing when it is so hot outdoors. If you enjoy pineapple, then I think you would love the Dole Whip floats.
