Doing things alone

Sometimes it is easier to do things alone.

For example, last fall I went to NYC by myself to see a show I didn’t want to miss and in a few weeks I’m going to cirque du soleil by myself. It’s not that no one wanted to go but rather how much tickets cost.

So my question is- do you do things by yourself? If you do, do you think it’s easier? What kind of travel or activities have you done by yourself?

My family thinks I’m crazy for doing things by myself but I’m not going to wait around and possibly miss something!

I will do anything by myself, travel, dinner, movies, and theatre. I like to purchase good seats and hate asking others to spend that kind of money. I am lucky to have a daughter that likes to do all these things but since she moved an hour away and works a different schedule i sometimes find myself going alone.

Not crazy at all! When I worked in the city, I did "touristy" things (museums, aquarium, etc.) alone all the time. I definitely find outings less complicated with one or two people than with a large group. I also like to shop by myself, as I tend to dawdle about it. The only thing I'm not really comfortable with alone is eating out. - I'll grab a sandwich to go or read in a casual place, but I prefer company in fancier restaurants.

Now that I am married with a son, I go out on solo activities less and less, but I always used to and it never bothered me in the least. When I was working in Westchester County above Manhattan, I was constantly taking the train into the city and seeing a show, touring the city, eating at a sit -down restaurant by myself. Like previous posters have stated, sometimes it's too much of a hassle waiting for others to decide on a good time to do everything, so if I really want to do something, going by myself is the way to go.

I love doing things alone! When the kids were younger I did it for sanity sake! Now, I am older I just like being alone. I ran a half marathon in a large city. I flew there alone and spent time site seeing before and a few days after the race. It was a great trip! I go to the movies alone sometimes and used to look forward to business trips when given the opportunity.

My favorite thing to do alone is run. I used to have friends wanting to run/ train together. I tried it a few times and hated it! It’s my time to think!

Never been on a trip alone.
Been married 36 years and trips are my times to be with my wife and family. Got back on Wednesday night from a 1,100 mile trip by car with just my wife.
We both from time to time have to work a 6th day, always a Saturday or Sunday, and we both hate being home alone while the other works. I can't imagine taking a trip alone.

Different strokes, I guess - I'd go simply mad if I never had any time at home alone. I get up early and go to bed late specifically for this reason.

As to the original question, this might not be exactly what you mean, but I much prefer to do certain things alone for efficiency's sake. Run errands, shopping, household chores, cooking - please DON'T help me.

I'm very social. My wife, not so much, but she still likes being with me.

I've done several things alone - sometimes go to Disneyland, movies, dinner or lunch at a restaurant, sightsee in LA... When I've visited my cousins in Spain I've finished off with a stay in Madrid by myself and gone sightseeing there. I also do things with family and friends, but not having a companion doesn't stop me from experiencing life adventures.

I like to run errands alone, I sometimes love to be home alone (for a short period of time). Other than that, I would much rather have somebody with me.
