ALL FOUR PARKS IN 2 DAYS FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE RIDES ONLY!
My family consists of DH37, DS11, DD9, and me (36). We have been to MK several times, but have never attempted AK, MGM, or Epcot. We refuse to go to the parks when everyone is out of school. So our kids get pre-homework from all their teachers and off we go! We’ve always gone in October, so May 10-13 will be different. Why these dates? Less crowds, better weather, etc. We originally planned to go to two parks in two days. But when we started researching all the big rides at each park, we knew we had to have a taste of all of them. So we left on a Wednesday evening, did MK and AK on Thursday, did MGM and Epcot on Friday. And then flew home on Saturday. WHEW! We did it and didn’t feel too rushed.
I’ve never read a trip report that had all four parks in two days. I tried to find one before leaving and never accomplished it. So I knew I wanted to post one when I returned. I read 8 books before leaving, and studied these boards vigorously. I was prepared. I also had the kids pick out their favorite rides to do before we left. And explained to them we couldn’t do it all. So we picked our favorites, and made a plan on paper. I can’t say enough about preparedness. It saved us many times! I also used cheat sheets for each park that I had written down for helpful hints I got from the books and this board. For each park I went to, I stuffed them in my pocket and referred back to them. It is just so hard to concentrate in those parks. So the cheat sheets were a lifesaver!

Wednesday: We left Kansas City’s airport at 6:50 p.m. flying Southwest. Late flight so the kids could stay in school. It originally got delayed for two hours, then later it was only 25 minutes. We arrived in Orlando at 10:43 p.m. I checked my watch, by the time we found Magical Express counter on the first level it was 10:55. Very quick and painless this time of night. Once we stood in line it took 2 minutes for a bus. We had to wait for the bus to completely load with all passengers and luggage, so it took a total time of 14 minutes from the beginning of standing in line until the bus took off for the motels. At this time of night, the each bus had to stop at about 3 or 4 motels. Luckily we had picked POP because of recommendations on this board. It is the closest to the airport so the first stop on the trip. We stepped foot inside of POP 45 minutes after our plane landed.

POP: We stayed in the 50s building. It was a great location. The room was very small. The outside door almost touches the bed when you open it. But for our purposes it was great. Because we were going to be in the parks all day anyway. We requested extra pillows and they brought them directly to us! Off to bed. Our luggage was delivered at 1:30 a.m. POP told me they knock on doors until 2:30 a.m. After that they hold them.
We had the wake-up call set because this board told us that Mickey calls you (a recording). And had recommended to put it on speaker so all the kids could hear it. But the speaker phone didn’t work well in our room and it kept cutting out.

Off to the parks.
ALL about the rides. We don't care much about seeing characters, dining at the most fabulous places, etc. We care about the rides.

We did MK for EMH on Thursday morning. All recommendations were to avoid this park on Thursday. I disagree. Avoid it on Thursday afternoon, not Thursday morning. I thought the DIS had told me that Main St. would be open for shopping before rope drop. I was disappointed that it wasn’t. Made it to rope drop at 8 a.m. Perfect! We headed for Tomorrowland. For Early morning extra hours, only Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are open. This means you need to make it to the second rope drop for Splash Mountain at 9 a.m. So we had one hour in Tomorrowland. That was our plan. So we went directly towards Space Mountain and walked on. Then we did it again. It was so fun! Then we went to Buzz. We walked right on also. We weren’t too impressed. I learned on these boards that if you shoot the back of the robot’s hand when leaving the room it gives you lots of points. It didn’t work for us. Then we went to Autopia. We had a 5-6 minute wait. It was now 8:55 a.m. so we headed over to the rope drop for Splash Mountain. We waited 1 minute for the drop and off we went. I headed right to the FP machine. I got our FP and then we rode Thunder Mountain Railroad two times with no wait. It was now time for Splash Mountain FP so we used it. We also walked right on this ride. We rode it again because there wasn't much of a wait yet. After this we stopped for fruit and ice cream on our walk to Haunted Mansion. We rode once with no wait.

By now it was around 10:30 and the park was starting to pick up! Lots of guests arriving. We road the train to Toontown since the streets were getting harder to maneuver. There was no wait. It arrived right when we got there. We got off at Toontown. I asked the CM how long for Mickey? She said maybe 10 minutes. So we all got our pics with Mickey Mouse! This is where we started our photopass card. I would highly recommend this! The photographers have cards they give you the first time you take a pic. From then on, you just hand a photographer your card every time you see them at the park. We got some great keepsake shots!

We walked on the secret path to Tomorrowland and got a FP for Space Mountain. The return time was only about 30 minutes later, so we ate near it. I’m not sure the name of the restaurant but it wasn’t that fabulous. It was counter service. Then we rode Space Mountain with no wait. I got another FP for it to use in the evening when we returned to the park. (Great hint!) We got in line for Stitch. It was the longest wait of our vacation. (About 25 min) The worst ride I’ve ever been on. No thanks. The rest of you can enjoy that one. The lines were getting a little crazy now............so we headed towards the front of the park. It looked like it was going to downpour. We took another photopass pic in front of the castle on the way out. It was now 1:30 p.m. Off to AK. To transfer from MK to AK you have to take the Monorail from MK to the TTC, then catch a bus. It took about 40 minutes for transferring.

ANIMAL KINGDOM IN THE AFTEROON:

It was raining during the transfer so lots of people were leaving AK. When we entered the park, the CM checking our tickets said "It's a great raining day for you....the animals love to come out and play when it rains. So head directly to the safari." :thumbsup2 So if it is raining...there's a tip for you. We stayed until evening EMH so the park closed at 8 p.m. Normally it would close at 5 p.m. I stopped at Guest relations to get my Yetivision certificate
to redeem for my free EE ride picture. I played the Yeti game online before leaving town and got my free certificate. It took a long time to play it because of my slow computer, but it was worth it!

The Guest Relations CM was very informative on ride wait times and if any FP
were left for EE. No FP left. Too bad. Since it was still downpouring, we went to Dinosaur first since it was indoors and at the front of the
park. No wait. Probably due to the downpour. It was a nice ride. It stopped raining by the time we came back out of the ride. I love those
QUICK Florida rains!

So we road Primeval
Whirl. We waited 12 minutes for this ride. We
loved it! We rode it again and waited 15 min.

Our main goal for AK was to ride EE. So we
went to check the wait times. It was 60 minutes. No way were we waiting for that. I would get new FP when evening EMH started. Or so I thought. This board had told me they would open the machines at evening EMH. That was wrong information. They didn’t for us that day. They said we wouldn’t need them.

We headed towards the Kali River Rapids. It had only a 15 minute wait. Most people were still wearing rain ponchos from the downpour of earlier, so we just put ours on too. Without them, we would have been soaked! I had asked on this board before we went if there was a storage place for my backpack or lockers nearby. I never got a clear answer. There are no lockers but in the middle of the ride there is a place to put large or small carry items. I had a stuffed backpack that fit nicely inside of it. It was pretty waterproof because it has velcro secured lid over it. I also brought a garbage bag to put my backpack inside of. This worked like a charm! My camera stayed dry and everything else.

So we went to Kilamanjaro Safari. It said a 60 minute wait, it only ended up being a 25 minute wait. When we were done we caught the parade. It wasn’t at all like the crowds at the MK parades. You could easily get a seat at this one! And it was good.

By this time, EE had about a 10 minute wait because the park was closing down for the guests who didn’t have wristbands for EMH. I
rode EE twice in a row with the second time being a 7 minute wait. I was shocked. The boards had steered me wrong on this! They
were saying 70 minute waits on EMH nights. Plus there was no FP machines open. Luckily we didn’t need them. The Yeti will be on the right side. But both sides are able to see him well because he gets so close. But if you sit on the left, when you get to the top where the Yeti has ripped the tracks, you wait about 6 seconds there. Turn to your left and look behind the coaster, you can watch the tracks flip! You can't see this on the right side though. The ride is amazing. I am
prone to motion sickness though, and that “in the dark and twisting” motion was when I had to stop. So the rest of the family rode it 5 more times back to back. Hardly any wait. One time I timed my DH and DS so I could go shopping. I came back after 25 minutes and met them. They said they rode it twice in those 25 minutes.

We headed for Dinoland and ate dinner at the McDonalds there.

The DH and kids rode Primeval Whirl 2 more times. I opted out to get my head to feel better after EE.

Then we went to a Bug’s Life movie. It was fun. Pretty intense for younger kids. Lots of kids in this theater were crying! We walked right onto this ride. No wait. It was now 7:50 and we decided to beat the crowds out of the park since it closed at 8. So off we went to catch a bus to the TTC. Then to the monorail back to MK for the Spectromagic parade and fireworks.

The transfer only took 30 minutes this time. So we rode Space Mountain with our expired FP. Then we went to watch the Spectromagic Parade. We found that it would have been a waste of time to get there early for good seats, because nice people let my kids near the front row. A little pixie dust flew our way!

This board advised me to watch the fireworks from the end of Main St. We did this to try to avoid the rush. I was disappointed that they didn’t dim the lights at the end of Main St. like they do everywhere else in the park. I took the opportunity to run to First Aid to get free band-aids for our sore feet and blisters! I read on this board to take blister medicine and I didn’t. This was a big mistake!

Then back to Pop Century. The wait for a bus was VERY long. Probably 25 minutes because this park is just so crazy at closing. In retrospect, we should have skipped the fireworks and went back to POP early. We arrived back around 11:30 or so.

Day three and four report to follow.

WHAT DIS TAUGHT ME: :cool1:
1.GO EARLY GO EARLY GO EARLY! You get so much done in such little time! Rope drop is so important.
2. Be prepared! Make a plan! Get all your family to agree to it before leaving! Stick the plan on a piece of paper. One for each day. Stick it in your pocket for quick reference.
3. Go in off-season. It’s worth taking the kids out of school.
4. Do BOTH rope drops at MK on early EMH days! Wow! Did that every pay off! :thumbsup2

WHAT I MISSED READING ON DIS:
1. I wish I would have watched the fireworks at MK more towards the front entrance train station. I was close by being at the end of Main St. Just not close enough. So many people in that bus line!
3. First Aid gives out free band-aids.
4. I thought evening EMH would have FP at AK and they didn’t on Thursday! Evening EMH at AK is well worth it!
5. Main St. wasn’t open before early EMH. They let us walk through Main St. 10 minutes before rope drop, but no shops were open. We wanted to eat at the bakery before hand.
6. That Concierge at POP doesn’t open until 7 a.m. to get your park tickets for Will Call. I wanted to be on the 7 a.m. bus to MK but couldn’t be!

Stay tuned for days 3 and 4! :cheer2:

Great report so far!! You really got alot done in one day! My family (or should I say DH would have never kept up with that schedule). But that is MY kind of day. Get in everything you can and go go go until you drop! My DH just drops alot quicker than I do. LOL! Can't wait to read the rest.

Day 3: ½ day at MGM, ½ day at Epcot :cool1:

Well as you can tell by now, this was a fast paced vacation. It was all about picking our favorites and enjoying them. Did we have time to stop and smell the roses?....yes. Plenty of it. :sunny:

Here we go with Day 3. (Thursday) :teeth:

The first mistake I made before leaving POP was I forgot to get my Southwest Airlines boarding pass from Concierge before going to the parks. :guilty: I could never find the answer from DIS, but their hours were 7a.m. to 10 p.m. That was hard for me to catch them. So out the door we went without even thinking about it. All the more reason to write things down that you want accomplished on a piece of paper before leaving home. Then put it in your pocket on that day!

MGM opened at 9 a.m. today. There was no early EMH to this park. We got on the bus at POP around 8:25 a.m. We only had to wait for it about 6 minutes. It was a very short ride to MGM. We arrived in plenty of time for rope drop.

Since our goal was to ride TOT first, we positioned ourselves to the right of the rope so we could make a quick turn to the right. We did stop and take another Photopass picture by the hat before rope drop. At rope drop it got a bit crazy. People really like to shove around a bit. It was intense. My family walked right onto TOT while I got FP for RNR. When they came off of TOT I rode with them. This time it was a 10 minute wait. Not bad. Another reason to COME EARLY! Wow. What an intense ride. I screamed in horror the whole time, but then I wanted to do it again. Wow!! I can’t believe my DD9 loved it! :bounce:

After that it was time for RNR so we used our FP. We walked right onto the ride. Wow! Another intense ride. This one gave me a bit of motion sickness again. I had used ginger root at the advice of people on this board. It worked pretty well the first day until EE. But this second day it wasn’t working as well. Next time I will try Dramamine. :p

We got another FP for RNR and left this area to go to the Great Movie Ride. The kids were excited about this one because before we left, I had them watch some of the movies I knew would be featured. It had a 35 minute wait. I knew from reading this board that was very unusual to have such a wait time for this ride. So I pulled aside the CM who told me they had technical difficulties earlier. Therefore the line was longer than normal. She recommended to come back later for which I’m glad. Another moment where research pays off! :surfweb:

We walked around the park a while and shopped and looked at all the sites. Lots of characters under the Sorcerer’s hat. Then it was time for our FP on RNR again. So off we went. I sat this one out due to motion sickness. But the family had an awesome time. This is my DS11 favorite ride! Zero to Sixty in two seconds is intense!

Then we rode Star Tours. We had a 12 minute wait. It was fun. It is a motion simulator, but is sure feels real! The young boy (maybe 5) in front of us cried the whole time. So be advised if you have young kids. A little tip is to avoid this ride after an Indiana Jones show is over. The lines greatly grow afterwards! :thumbsup2

While they were riding, I went to get FP for Indiana Jones and Lights, Motor, Action Shows. Because on this board I had read where it didn’t count against your other FP times. But all the walking didn’t pay off. They were not distributing them today! Too bad. I went back to meet the rest of my party at RNR exit.

We then went to the Lights, Motor, Action show which happened to be our absolute favorite! Don’t miss this show especially if you have boys or men that like toys! It was so fun. And Herbie makes an appearance. That made my DD9 happy. It was the first time she had ever seen a planned explosion like that. We were on the back row and she got up and started running. She thought it was real! It was so funny. The seats were never all taken. We arrived about 10 minutes before show time and still got a seat. Sit on the right side as you are facing the stage because that is where the gates open after the show. Then you will beat the mad rush of people. This also had a roof over where you sit. So it didn’t get hot. I would suggest going to the first show of the day due to the heat though. Our first show was at 11:50. The show lasts about 30 minutes. :moped:

Then we were off to our dining reservations at the drive-in theater restaurant. (Sci-Fi) My kids loved this! A few things surprised us. On this board it said they present the driver with the meal ticket as a speeding ticket. They didn’t do this for us. Also the lighted ice cubes for the kids’ drinks are an extra 5.95 on top of the price of the kid’s meal. So we opted out of those. They did allow my DS11 to eat off the kid’s menu even though it said 9 and under. We all enjoyed our food despite some negative reviews I read before making ressies. Make sure to have ressies! You will get caught waiting if not. We walked right in and seated promptly. Entire experience was about 30 minutes. Total cost $45. This is a peaceful restaurant to get out of the sun and relax. Some people have asked if the cartoons were scary for younger ones. No way! They were cheesy films from the 50s. The food comes very fast because it is mostly already prepared or quick food like french fries, etc. I think they probably just make it continuously in masses. I would still recommend it. My kids liked it but thought the films were a bit old.

We headed to the Indiana Jones show. It was a bit of a let down after watching LMA show earlier. It was packed completely full. We arrived about 10 minutes early. Sit on the upper right as you face the stage, you will also beat the crowds out the door! :thumbsup2

Then we took the backstage tour. No wait. Save this for anytime during the day when you want to just get off your feat. If you stand in row one during the first part of the show, you may get wet. Then when you board the tram, if you are on the left side (driver’s side) you have the potential to get wet.

Then we went back to the Great Movie Ride. This time there was a 5 minute wait! I’m glad I asked the CM earlier about that longer wait! This ride seemed to be more for older adults who know all the classic movies.

We were finishing our ½ day at MGM, but before we left we went to RNR using FP. And then to TOT using expired FP. Purchased some souvenirs and ice cream, and out the gates we went.

This was probably the most relaxing park we were at because there are lots of sit down rides. And the park isn’t huge!

We left MGM gates to go to Epcot around 4:05.
We arrived in Epcot by bus at 4:30. A very simple transfer. The kids were allowed to eat on the bus.

I’m going to make our second half of our day to Epcot on another page. This is getting so long!

More Tips: :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
1. Always carry two quarters and one penny in your pocket. You never know when you are going to come across a penny press machine. Be warned that the TOT penny press is actually a quarter press. And it takes a total of $1.50 to get it!
2. Every cart vendor took our credit cards. I was told on this board that they didn’t.
3. GO EARLY! AND UTILIZE FP.
4. When entering the TV room during the TOT ride, arrange yourself on the wall opposite where you came in , and also opposite the TV. This will allow you to be first in line when the door opens for the next part of the ride.

OUR FINAL ½ DAY AT EPCOT! :)
We arrived at 4:30p.m. by bus. This board seems to think the only way from MGM to Epcot is by boat. This is wrong. There are direct bus transfers and they are simple. ;)

Epcot had late EMH for this evening. Future World was supposed to close at 7. Most of the popular things stay open past that time. Just be aware if you want pizza in FW, get it before 7. The pizza shop closed and made us all sad. Most of FW actually stayed open until midnight though. It was dark since a lot of the building areas were closed. But the rides were still open and that is what we were there for anyway. :)

Epcot has the most sophisticated tips board shortly after you walk into the park. It is digital. Utilize it. It was always updated. Remember that our family is all about rides and not food. So we never entered World Showcase. We only stayed in Future World.

According to the tips board, Mission Space had no wait. I couldn’t believe it. But it was true. So my family rode it without me. I was nervous about my earlier motion sickness. This ride is supposed to be an intense centrifuge. I asked the CM why there wasn’t a wait, and she said they hardly ever have one anymore. Interesting. So save this ride for anytime during your visit.

We met Mickey and Goofy in an area that is hard for guests to see them. It is to the left when you almost are to enter the Mission Space ride. They were hiding behind the ball taking pictures. There was no one there so we got lots of alone time with them. :Pinkbounc

We were salivating to ride TT but the stand-by wait was 70 minutes. So I thought I could get a FP at 7 when FW was supposed to close. This was wrong. You can’t get them until 9 p.m. Because that is the normal time they close. It had some earlier malfunction which I hear is common. So that really gets the line longer.

So we were off to the Aquarium since it wouldn’t be staying open late. I was really confused about this because I thought there was a ride in this one. I never found one. So I was only disappointed in this building because I had higher expectations. The line for Crush looked pretty long.

We went to Spaceship Earth and walked right onto this ride. Save this for later in the afternoon. At the beginning of the day, everyone coming in from the gates hops on this ride. Later in the day there is seldom a line. It wasn’t an exciting ride but interesting. Worth seeing once only.

We then checked the tips board and it said TT had a 30 minute wait. We ran over there. Hopped in line. It was actually only a 16 minute wait! So it pays to keep coming back to a ride when lines are shorter. It was a great ride. I thought it was fun.

We ate at a place called Seasons. It wasn’t impressive at all. It is counter service that is overpriced. We had a hard time with this one. We were wishing that pizza stand was still open.
This was in the same place as Soarin’ so we headed that way. The wait time said 20 and it was actually 11 minutes. I recommend this ride. Ask for the front row so you don’t see feet dangling in front of you. Also the front row goes the highest which makes it seem so real. I’m scared of heights but this ride didn’t bother me in that way.

It seems all the rides post a longer wait than what it really is. I suppose this is nice because then the guests are happier who are in line, but it is hard for people who are waiting on them to get done, and want to shop while waiting! It makes it hard to judge the time to meet.

We walked onto Mission Space again. I still chose not to ride. Right now the firework show was happening. So when we got off of MS we checked out the TT line. It said 20 minute wait but it was only a 16 minute wait. But while we were in line it went up to a huge wait again. People from the firework show flocked here after the finale. So be aware of this if you are trying to watch fireworks and ride this ride! :thumbsup2

We decided to head back to the motel early. It was only 9:45 p.m. but we had an early start in the morning. :guilty:

Before we left, we stopped and had the Photopass photographer take pictures of us near the exit. It has the Spaceship Earth in the background. The picture turned out marvelous. The background looks fake because it is so beautiful. I recommend this photograph before you leave. You can even turn it into Christmas cards on their website. :smooth:

We took the bus back to POP :moped: It was an easy bus ride back and we shopped in the great store they have at POP. It was chilly this night so not much swimming in the pools for guests.

We had a 7:45a.m. flight back to KC. Magic Express picks you up 3 hours in advance of all flights. Be aware of this when booking. I wasn't! And that made for a very early start. The bus was there promptly at 4:45 a.m. It was a quick and easy transfer to the airport! Too quick. :sad2: We could have slept a LOT longer. We waited for a VERY long time for departure. With Southwest you can't check your luggage at the hotel. Only certain participating airlines allow this service.

I had to go to the front desk to check my charges at the resort before leaving. They usually hang them on your door that morning. But since we were leaving so early we had to get it ourselves. The CM said they don't start hanging them on doors until 6:30 a.m.

All in all a fabulous trip. Not a trip that everyone would enjoy. But my family of riders loved it! Quick and to the point. We saved lots of money this way.

I loved POP and would stay there again. It has it's own busses as compared to the other comparable All-Star resorts. :Pinkbounc

Thanks for reading. I hope it helps you plan! :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

Great trip report. I can't believe you accomplished so much in just 2 days! I'm impressed. :)

Great trip report!I was very glad to get the info on EMH at AK.I was planning on trying it in October. :)

Thanks for all the specific details in your report. I leave Sunday night and will use some of the tips you offered here.

I agree with impressive! Loved your report- you guys rule. You must have great kids too- no messing around huh?
Glad to hear you got on the Epcot biggies so late in the day.
Really glad to hear about Lights Motor Action - weve never seen it but will next time!
Thanks

We did get a lot done because of planning. If you are going to be there only a short time, planning is a must! :cool1:

I can't believe I never knew this. Can someone explain futher? Leave in 4 days.
Thanks

I've read on this board where getting an Indiana Jones FP doesn't count against other FP times. Somehow it isn't supposed to be connected with the FP for rides. So you can have a FP for it and a ride at the same time. I had read the same was true for LMA attraction. It frustrated me a bit though because I walked all the way to those spots and they weren't handing them out for the day. Oh well. We still got to see the shows! :cool1:

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for sharing.

Interesting tip abot the digital boards at Epcot. I plan to split Epcot too, so we don't do so much walking. Thanks for sharing.
