*Doing the Donald in 2010* Jan. Half Marathon Support Thread!

I moved my Wednesday run to today because my dh was home this morning and won't be tomorrow. I did 5 miles in 56 minutes.

Sierra/MapleGirl~ Thanks for the suggestion on where to meet at POP. Outside the gift shop sounds like a good idea to me.

sk8, I don't know if you've read my posts lately, but I am right there with you. Today is the "first" day for me too.
That's a lot of leaves! We don't have many leaves in our yard, we have lots of pine needles.

OK, we just need to get out there! I'm busting out of work early today to get a run in before the kids have Scouts. Really, I am.

I hate it when life gets in the way! ;) Sounds like you did quite a bit of cross training. Good for you! DH got a yard vacuum that sucks up the leaves and mulches them. We love it! Gone are our raking/bagging days. What position does your DS play? I am a hockey girl!

I'm a hockey girl too. I have one defenseman (DS11-peewee), and one winger (DS9-squirt). DH & I both play defense - he's a former goalie and I'm a reformed figure skater. Both boys play travel, so there's another reason why it is tough to get my runs in. Last weekend, we were gone 6 hours on Sat. for DS11 to play one game. This weekend, DH & DS9 have an overnight trip for a league game 3.5 hours away.

Yard vacuum sounds cool! We move too much to invest in special lawn equipment every time we move. We'll only have this big yard with giant oak trees for 3-4 years, so we just deal with it the old fashioned way.

Yay you!

I moved my long run to today because I'll only have time for a short run on Saturday. So, today I went out and did my longest run EVER! 7.5 miles (possibly more, I lost track..) in 87 minutes. I feel great! :)

sk8~ How'd it go yesterday?

How is everyone else doing this week??

:woohoo: Awesome job Liz! You're doing fabulous. I'll do my long run on Saturday. This week I'm scheduled for 9 miles so we'll see how that goes. That is fabulous you feel great after 7.5 miles. Anytime I go much over 6 miles I'm always tired the rest of the day:confused3

Have I complained about the weather on this thread? It's sunny today, but Tuesday I waited all day for the rain to stop. The day started with rain/snow mix. I was all dressed up and decided to wait... tick, tock, tick, tock. I finally gave in at 4:00 and did five miles in a light rain. It was around 40 degrees. A long sleeve tee and tights were a little on the cool side. I want to find a vest.

Today was four miles and those are in the book. Times were 12:27, 12:43, 12:07 and 12:10. It's an out and back with a slight incline going out. Ahhh, coming back.

We're going out of town this weekend and I have 7 miles planned. I will run up and down the county road leading to my parents house over and over.

D, I was doing that same thing, walking 5 miles in 75 minutes as of February of this year, and now here I am! You have 10 months in which you could make a ton of progress if you wanted to.

I remember feeling self conscious when I first started running outside. But who cares what others think, YOU are out there improving yourself, what are they doing?! And I bet some of them look at us and think, that should be me out there exercising too...

Just take it slow as you start running (or jogging if you want to call it that, it seems these days it's either "walk" or "run" no matter how slow. :) ) Not sure if you saw my post from before, but I highly recommend the couch to 5K program.

Thanks Jenny!! I feel better having a longer run under my belt now during this training process. I needed that psychologically.

And I was tired yesterday! I fell asleep on the couch at about 2pm. lol But I was "ok", and even after I did that 7.5 I felt like I could have done more...which of course I WILL be doing soon enough!

Good luck with your 7 Ronda!

This week DH has been home so my runs have been right on target. My speed work this week went awesome for me, first time in weeks I have been able to complete my goal number of intervals. Tomorrow I have a 5 mile trail race to run so really looking forward to that.

Sounds like everyone is on track and having fun training.

Good morning,
My long run of the week is done and it was a 16k or 10 miles. I have never run this far and it went ok. I would say that the last 15 minutes was not easy. At least the weather was good: cloudy and 42F.
I have started to watch the weather in Orlando and I like the fact that it goes down to the 40 during the night. I guess I will bring my running short with me in January.:upsidedow
Next week is another 16k and I am up to 7 hills.
Have a nice week-end.
Diane

This morning I did my longest run EVER! Yay me! I went 7 miles at 13 minute pace, run 3 min. walk 2 min. I really, really needed to make it through that to keep me going after 2 lousy training weeks. This week I get a new challenge - run 3, walk 1 workouts.

I hope everyone is having a great training weekend!

Joanne I'm glad you had a great week! We want to hear how your road race went!

Diane :woohoo: on the 10 miler! In my previous 2 half marathons 10 miles was the longest training run I ever did so you are definitely on track to have a great race! I'm a bit concerned about the weather in Orlando as well. We'll be used to running in cooling temps. Hopefully we don't all get heat stroke!

sk8tingmom :woohoo: for the 7 miler! That is a big psycological hurdle I think. For some reason for me 7 miles seems a lot longer than 6 miles. And you are making great time. You'll definitely be ready by January!

As for me I just finished my 9 mile run and I am tired:rolleyes1 But of course I'm glad I did it. My time was 105 minutes which is a long time to put one foot in front of the other:rolleyes:

Can't wait to hear more reports! Everyone is doing great:cheer2:

7 milers, and 9 milers and 10 milers - Awesome everyone...

Today I had my 5 mile trail race and I had a blast. The weather was perfect and I felt great. I was able to shave 9 minutes off my usual time on this trail so I am pretty excited.

Finishing time was 56:39 - hills are brutal at times.... Waiting for the official results to know my placing...

Tomorrow - hopefully I will get in an easy 3/4 miles and back to long runs next weekend.

Hey guys! Sorry I don't have time to catch up, but from browsing it seems like you are all doing so well! Keep it up!!

Today I was able to get 10 miles in! I plan on nex weekend, if the weather is nice, doing a half! I feel ready for it!

I want to try and get on here as much as possible this week. Sorry, I don't get to come on as much as I would like. I'm busy with school and work.

I did seven miles yesterday - another new distance record. After the hilly six last week, these flat seven were just right. Averaged 12:15.

Good training everybody!

Ronda

Everybody is doing so good! Even me! Did 6 miles yesterday at a 15:10 pace :cool1: oddly, for me the back half is always much easier than the front. Anyone else experience that ...in other words my last mile is easier than my first and so on...
A month ago I couldn't get past a 20 minute mile due to issues with my calfs and now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This morning I woke up feeling GREAT and for the very first time I thought "I AM going to be able to do this!" It was an AMAZING feeling. I can't wait to see you all in January!
(Oh, and I think my new WISH hat that I wore for the first time yesterday helped...Thanks Tracy!!!)

YAY!!!!

Today I rest.

OK, more to the point, today I limp up and down the stairs with laundry, clean the house, and start cooking for Thanksgiving - if you want to call that rest!

Hi Anne!! Good for you! Isn't it an amazing feeling when you get stronger and faster. You are going to do it!!

Hi Anne! I find that after I get past the first 2-3 miles now, I speed up and feel much better. I did 5.5 yesterday. It was all I was scheduled to do, but I felt like I could have gone for another 5 after that.

Hi Lynn! I'm so excited that you're doing this. I'll head over to your PTR in a bit!

You ARE going to be able to do this in January! :)

I can't say the last mile is easy for me, but I usually feel like I am going to dieduring the first mile. I hack and wheeze and huff and puff like someone who has been sitting on a couch for 10 years and decided to jump up and go for a run. I get over it right about the first mile mark, start breathing like a normal quasi-endurance athlete and carry on.
