Doing Disney for ONLY $2000.00 Realistic? or NOT?

If you are driving you can stop at a store and pick up some items for some sort of breakfast in your room. I would think $2000 is very doable especially during free dining and if you do not upgrade the dining plan you do not have to worry about allowing any money for tips.

$1,498.42 August 15 - August 21 (7 day non-hopper passes), or $1,381.68 for 6 days. Free quick-service would give you 2 meals and 2 snacks which could compensate for the other meal. Another poster quoted the transportation cost to and from and if you add that with a little extra you would be at $1,898.42 (7) days and $1,781.68 for (6) days. There is no insurance and really not enough money for extra's if you ask me.

I would bump your budget up to $2,300.00 if you want the extra day and $2,150.00 for the six days.

We just did 6 days/7nights at POP over spring break for about 1850(using Disney Visa Kids stay, eat and play free) with the QSDP. 2 adults/2 children. So if you go during regular or value season it can be reasonable under 2K.

He does, he just doesn't know it. I just tell DH what days to take off from work and what time our plane leaves.. (we are not fans of driving, done that - now DH will only fly).

I always remind DH, how much better we will feel after a little time away. It doesn't hurt that my mother calls our house numerous times a day and never on vacation!!

Actually the thing is...he doesnt care if we go or dont go...he doesnt make decisions...I usually make them all and he just goes along with whatever I want..but this time I want him to actually make it..that way if it turns out to be a bad choice...financially or whatever LOL..it doesnt fall on my head...does that sound horrible??

No not at all. The decision should always be equally shared no matter what. It really is a good deal with free dining. Pull up a few of the CS meals and have him choose a few. That gives him more than enough accountablility!! Enjoy your planning!

We went last Aug. during free dining (24th-28th), 2 adults/2 kids, stayed 4nt./5days at CSR for $1759 - that did include park hopper. We took autotrain down for $400 w/summer special for kids(we drove from South Jersey to VA to pick it up - includes meals, snacks, movie, and you're there early the next morning), and drove back(stopped in MB for a few days). With having your car, you can pack water/soda/juice, sancks, quick brft. items, etc. to use in the room & bring into parks, so that will help too! You can also get free ice water in the parks at any CS rest., and that it great in the Aug. heat! So I think it definitely can be done - I'm sure the prices are a little higher this yr., but if you can go during free dining, it makes a huge difference.

Also, you could consider asking family/close friends to give Disney GC for kids' gifts if you have bdays /other celebrations coming up. We did this on our 1st trip, as we were going in Nov., and their bdays were in the summer. Last yr. we decided last minute to do FD trip, so DD got some for her bday, but DS's had past, so I got a GC for him so they each had their own souvineer $$ - makes it easier as they can decide what to spend on, and then it's done. You can also have them do chores to earn it(if of age). I'm hoping to go again in Nov., and plan to buy them each a $5 GC now, and add a little each month to help with costs. HTH! Good luck!

I hate to burst your bubble but this math is wrong. It only includes gas for one way. I'm figuring $300 for gas for our trip from PA, from MA I would think it would cost you no less than $400. Also, I can't imagine driving 1300 miles in two days with 2 small children. JMO, but I would want to stop for 2 nights each on the trips down and back. Believe me, no one travels cheaper than I do, but I just don't believe you can do it unless you're planning on sleeping in the car or just not returning home - come to think of it, that sounds like a good idea!

I think you can do it I'd fly down though. You may find tickets cheap just keep looking. I think the gas depending on your car may come out the same I know I can burn through a tank just going from south shore to needham 3 x so I'd figure if I were going in my car it would probably cost me in the realm of 400 on gas roundtrip granted someone had to have turbo (df) anyhow I'd keep your eyes open for tickets you never know you could score something last minute.

I didn't think it would work (as we are going the same timeframe), but after reworking my travel spreadsheet I think you can do it. 5 nights, 6 days looks to be about 1450 or so as mentioned. Gas is projected at $3.40 a gallon at that time, so you may want to build in a safety net on that number. But without any stops (hotels), and if no road meals included, I come up with about $1750, which leaves room for meals on the way, etc. The big bonus compared to our trip is sticking to the QSDP you don't have to tip. I may have to talk to DW and rethink this....

I think it's tight but doable. Will gas really be that expensive ($3.50 a gallon) then in the South? It's well under $3 from Virginia down at the moment. Would you consider using priceline for your road hotels? We always pack all our road snacks/drinks and eat fairly cheaply, and it's really not a sacrifice.

Given that you could go higher, I'd plan the tight budget but give myself a little more of a cushion in case you need it.

I envy you being able to do the trip for this price. I've priced a trip for the same week, and can't get it much under $4,000! We would need two value rooms, and there's no way my DH (or probably my middle child) would consent to eating just counter service. So, we have to either upgrade to two moderate rooms or upgrade the dining plan. I'm still dreaming, though. . .

I haven't been to DW in years, so I don't know this for sure, but it really doesn't sound like enough. It's good that you do have extra money to fall back on in the event it winds up costing you more. I would budget a little bit more and see what happens.

We did our first DL trip, as a fam, on a budget and even though we had fun, it was stressful. After that fateful trip, I decided it would never happen again. Even if we have to wait an extra year to go, we will go with plenty of extra money. We did that on our last trip, and had a blast.
