Doing Disney :) April 1-8, 2017, April TR thread

They put us in 1500!!! First time ever and I LOVE the location. If you come without bikes, this is the tent loop to be in. Thursday was a beautiful day - hot but nicely cooled down in the evening. The Fort isn't as full as other Spring Breaks and the pool never reached the level of people soup.
Getting back to the site, they had left a notification on our windshield that a burn ban was in effect and we couldn't cook on charcoal grills. This is really inconvenient for us as we don't have a propane option and only a tiny electric skillet. Let's see how creative i get as meals out for 6 of us was not in the plans. If you are checking in these days, plan for it as it's countywide.

Get a Giddyup & Go (GAG) at Trails End Takeout for about $25 for 8 pieces of chicken, two sides, and corn bread. You can upgrade the chicken to all breast meat (larger pieces) for only $4-5 more.

Glad you got into 1500. I'm assuming you checked in on a Thursday so that likely helped your chances.

Have fun with the family!

Bama Ed

Yikes, camping just isn't the same without grilling up some meat.

We decided to take the boat over to Wilderness Lodge to check out the new bar and grill. First off, it's gorgeous with nice sofas and seats and perfectly situated to take advantage of the breeze and the view. However, our mood was quickly dampened when the bartender wouldn't serve us without ID. Hello?? I'm 44 years old and I definitely don't look 21! Back on the boat and the contemporary bar had no problem with us. So, make sure to carry ID in case you get an overzealous bartender who kills your vibe

Well still, amcc, you should be flattered just a LITTLE bit. Trust me, after a while they DO finally stop asking .... :( Bama Ed

Yeah, especially when the grey shows up :worried:

The Flower and Garden festival made up for yesterday's disappointment:p as my fears of mammoth crowds did not materialize. Fresh breeze off the lake, reasonable crowds and we found the food at the kiosks very good. We rode Frozen for the first time and my 4 year old declared it his favorite ride. The ride is whatever but the Olaf animatronic is awesome.

Update on the burn ban: one site in our loop has been set up as a community gas grilling site with a new Weber for a couple of hours (maybe before a check in) and they've brought out several more grills to the shelter by the pool.

That's awesome. While I love to cook on Charcoal, (for the flavor of it) we rarely do it any more (at home) unless we are camping. Since we don't bring a gas grill with us that would be upsetting. At least, for us, we are in a TT and can still cook inside the camper, but if we were tent camping, it would be a very different story. Glad you can still get to cook your meals (even if it's on gas).

Easter is a very nice holiday at Disney. We were up early on Sunday but because no one read the full schedule, we went to the wrong place for the egg hunt plus a long wait for the bus meant we missed the Forts hunt. We got on the resort launch to the Wilderness lodge where we found remnants of their little hunt PLUS Mickey and Minnie in their Sunday clothes AND the Easter bunny. Yay!

Over at the Contemporary, we got a photo with dressed up Chip and Dale and played their outdoor games while waiting for mass. After mass, we thought to go over to Grand Floridian to see the Easter eggs but 45 minutes later, we still hadn't been able to get on a monorail. They were coming packed from TTC with room for maybe 15 people each time. In retrospect, should have taken the launch to MK and the GF boat. We ducked out and took the boat back to the Fort where we all really wanted to be :)

I'm surprised that it didn't empty out on Sunday as it usually does. More people, like us, we're heading out this morning. its definitely one of our favorite holidays here and I've got to make reservations for next year.

Did The Fort get any rain the last couple of days?
