Dogs just "know".

Not odd at all. The dog confirmed the suspicions he already had about the person.

Agree.....
What I find odd is all the "new" Disers that have so much negative to say on these boards lately.

Hmmmmm.... ;)

Dogs can be weird. My parents had a collie/shepherd mix that pretty much liked everyone unless they put on a hat. You could be playing with him and put on a hat and he'd get all upset. :confused3

i love animals, but when i was younger, my neighbor had this dog that HATED me. her name was ribbon, and she was a mean old mutt. she didn't really like anybody, but when i was about six years old, i walked into her house, and she bit a huge bite out of my leg, and every time after that (until that dog died) she tried to bite me. all the other dogs loved me, and came up for me to pet them, but that one hated me for some reason.

Count me in with the 'trust your dog' group.

I have the most sensitive, gentle and submissive Border Collie on the planet. He is 8 and I've never heard him growl, ever. Well, we have ADT and there was this one worker who had been to the place a couple of times to do small bits of work and EVERY time he has been here my dog would put himself physically between this guy and any member of my family who happened to be near by. The poor thing was very agitated, running all over the house to keep his eyes on this guy, not is an I love you way either, he never got close enough for the guy to pet him which is, again odd. I took it as a caution.

Personally, I do not think dogs have a sixth sense, but they do have an extremely advanced sense of smell. When other animals or humans are hurt or afraid or even angry they exude hormones & other chemicals and I would bet this scent would stay on someone who was nearby a bad situation. Just because we can't smell chemical clues to a persons life doesn't mean our dogs can't. I trust my dog.

I can't remember who I was reading, it may have been the Dog Whisperer (It was one of those types). Anyway, at the end of hte article on dog behavior, they said to absolutely trust your dog. They said dogs are much better than people at reading body language. The article was about training your dog and many of the tips had to do with your body language and tone of voice. Dogs are able to read those "microexpressions" and all the little things in your body language that indicate you are being deceptive.

The only thing dogs "know" is how to mess up a trifecta wager. Well, that and how to train humans to scoop up after them (some people anyway).

I agree that dogs have keener senses than humans. I think animals in general do.

We have all heard the stories about the animals all heading inland prior to the tsunami a couple of years ago.

Dogs can be trained to sniff drugs, detect oncoming seizures, sniff cancer etc.
I agree. I have dogs, cats and horses. And yes, their senses are keener. I will watch my animals when we have severe weather watches. They know better than the weatherman what's coming our way.

I am also on alert if my animals are not comfortable around a particular person. It's not just dogs that do this. My cats and horses also have people they don't like. As another poster stated....animals have survival instincts, but so do we. While we may think a situation through, an animal reacts.

Lots of that "strange" has been happening lately. ;)

I've been away for awhile. Hmmm. You mean "stranger" than before? ;)

We have the most affectionate cat ever. This cat loves everyone and climbs in the laps of every guest we have ever had, except 1. My cousin brought her new boyfriend over and Bob (the cat) refused to have anything to do with this man. He is more like a dog, greets us at the front door, comes when called etc. But he avoided this guy like the plague even though this guy was determined to play with Bob. Turns out this guy is a drug addict/alcoholic who beats my cousin. I'm guessing Bob probably smelled something on him he didn't like but still, my cat has better sense than my cousin.

I absolutely trust my dog's instinct and agree they know things we don't fully understand.

Sorry, but, what is it that they "know"? Is this a joke or something?

Dog have a heighten scent ability.People that are in "a not good place" give off a scent, the Pheromones or something they call it. We had police dogs, not my agency and the handlers said they could hunt down the criminal by that scent they gave off.
Almost like a person sweating it is that pronounced to a dog.

There are dogs that people, especially kids use now for diabetes. The dogs can smell when the sugar levels are not right to warn the child, or adult.

What about the dogs that can smell cancers, wow. Amazing animals.

*Tut tut*. If you were listening you'd know your dog was saying:
"Man from outthide, pleathe help. PLEATHE man from outthide you mutht help. Look what they did to that pig. I think I'm next. There'th room for two on that thpit. Woof woof panic woof anxiety-attack woof woof. "

:rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

OP,
I agree dogs are very intuitive though a rare moment of going berserk wouldn't necessarily indicate the guest was weird. As a pp said, she could have sensed fear, panic etc. We had a dog when I was growing up who loved me so much but when I went to college and returned at weekends he barked and snarled like crazy. He was basically saying "you think you can walk out of this house and then breeze back in on a whim? I don't think so missy!"

:confused3 I feel like you're implying something, but I don't understand. I am going to Disney in November. I found DIS when I was investigating renting points. I don't think I'm negative, just honest. I wasn't calling the OP names or being mean, just pointing out that I don't think a dog being weird about a person is a good reason for thinking the person is "weird". That's all. Negative would have been mocking the OP, which I was not doing. Its funny, you're a long time DISer based on your post count, and you've been more unfreindly than I have. :sad1:
