Dogs In Pick Ups

It is against the law in Maine. You either crate them or have a special tie so they can't jump out.

so what do you think we should do with them?? put them in a seatbelt

even if they are in the inside of the car and you have an accident they are going to be thrown more then likely throw the windshield

For whatever it's worth I have never seen anyone taking a dog in a back of a vehicle going long distances and never at 60 miles per hour

my dog has a seatbelt. and she's in it every time she's in the car. my dog is my daughter, i'd never risk her like that.

I dont think there is any safe way to transport a dog in the back of a truck without a crate.

There is apparently a harness thing made especially for pickups. It seems to hook somehow to both sides of the truck bed and keeps the dog in the middle and back (window end) of the bed.

Yes, that is the device we must use in Maine. I have seen it in stores and I am glad we have the law.

I don't think it's ever safe even if they are restrained honestly. I don't let my dog hang out the window for the same reason I wouldn't let them in the back of the truck. Flying debris can cause all kinds of issues. I've read that over and over and I'm always surprised that people still do things like that. That said I grew up riding in the back of a truck as did all my friends and family but I like to think as Oprah says, "when you know better you do better." I know it's not worth the risk to my babies.
