Dogs at DL

I actually see quite a few service animals that don't have vests or tags. We are also asked regularly to approach the dogs and pet them, even with the vests on. According to the trainers we've run into it helps them become acclimated to having random people approach them. No one wants a service animal that is aggressive. :)
I'm sorry that Mugglemama has problems with dogs in her neighborhood, maybe the police need to be notified that people are letting dogs off the leash. We do let our "big" dog (he's about 42 lbs, but our little dog is about 10 so we call him big LOL) off leash when it's allowed BUT he's very well trained and comes back as soon as we call him, our little dog on the other hand is not allowed off leash because she doesn't come back. I can't imagine letting my dogs run over and lick anyone's faces, it makes me crazy when little tries to lick my face without me asking for kisses........

Well "legally" speaking the dog either has to be wearing the vest or a tag...or the handler can be carrying the ID card. But I can tell you from experience that something must be shown (especially somewhere like DL) to prove your dog is legit in order to gain entry. Otherwise you will be turned away!!! I think that is good though, makes sure less people are trying to work the system!

lol, i wasn't trying to make the focus on anything i've experienced outside of Disneyland. i simply mentioned the instances that i did because several people were seriously generalizing, saying that "most people clean up after their pets", or "i've never seen anyone let their dog run up to little kids", etc. i was only hoping to point out that it does occur on a regular basis outside of disneyland (or the limited area that those making the statements are involved with in their own daily lives), which, logically means that it's a viable concern in a public place like disneyland, if in fact, people are permitted to just bring in any dog at any time if the reality is that no documentation is required.

i'm not quite sure how it all got misconstrued, but WOW.

We've taken our dogs on the Mickey & Friends tram and then walked through part of DTD, through security and to the Kennels without trouble.

Once in awhile a security guard will stop us and ask if we're on our way to the Kennels or not.

Our dogs are Siberian Huskies and when the movie Snow Dogs came out people thought we worked for Disney. Kids kept wanting to have photos taken with our dogs.

That is super adoarable!!

I agree it is not a dog's life at DL unless you are Goofy or Pluto! It's hot, loud and for the people you have to have some one babysit your dog on almost every ride, since service dogs are not allowed on many rides. Not fun at all!

You will not find anyone who is more of a sap about thier dog....I admit, I'm the worst!

Having said that --- DL is NO PLACE for a pet. Service dogs are performing .... a service. Pets should be left at home. DL is noisy, loud, fast paced and there are thousands of places the animals can hide AND be hurt if they escape.

Leave your pet at home - cared for in your absence.

Come on people....I don't remember Walt talking about DL being created for the enjoyment of Pets of all ages!

I don't think anyone is claiming that DL is a place for pets...from everything I have read people are talking about service dogs!

There is no way a pet would be allowed at DL....I am speaking as a cast member and someone with service dog experience. Unless of course they obtained a vest illegally or borrowed a friends. I doubt this happens very often if at all though. I have never seen a poorly behaved service animals at the parks.

I don't think anyone would disagree with you, DL is not a place for pets but that is not really what anyone is discussing here.

I think that service animals are the only animals that should be allowed in DL and it sounds as if that is the case. I don't understand why someone would think that DL would be fun for a pet at all. Our cat would certainly hate it. :rotfl: We actually saw a cat on a leash at the Grand Canyon a few weeks ago. It was so odd! The cat was obviously not enjoying the view!

I have no problem with service animals. These are trained animals who are there to do a job. Even if someone does have an issue with service animals, it really doesn't matter since they are allowed in by law.

Service animals allow individuals with disabilities to have more independence so that they don't have to depend on someone else. That is why just having the person rely on family members is not acceptable.

I would have issues if pets were allowed. I will have to agree with Mugglemama that it freaks me out when people let their dogs come bounding over to lick me or my children.

Also, since we don't know the dog, the OWNER may be certain that it will come back when called, but I have no way of knowing if the 50 pound animal running toward my 5 year old is going to lick or bite.

I have taught my kids not to approach strange animals. It is hard sometimes because they love them. I believe that it is safer for all involved though. I wish that all pet owners would make sure that their pets don't approach my children.:goodvibes Then, nobody would get bitten, or terrified and nobody would get their paws stepped on or their fur rubbed the wrong way. In a perfect world...;)
