Had a funny experience tonight. We were entering Epcot and we're stopped by the guard and dog. Turned out bringing Ben-gay is a big no!!! Husband has a sore calf and the dog picked up the scent. We laughed it off and the guard was super sweet. Glad they are watching out for us. Anyone with ben-gay beware!

I'm soo glad I read this. My husband is nursing a pulled calf muscle now (with only 9 days left til our WDW Vaca!). Muscle rub is something I could see us putting on him before a park day.

Just to be clear - once the guard was satisfied that it was just the ben gay you were allowed in. Right?

I was wondering this too-mostly that the ben gay was let in. I'd hate to go to Epcot with it, and then have them take it away from me because it's not allowed. I've already had TSA take away something I tried to (unknowingly) smuggle through at an airport-blueberry preserves, and that was bad enough. Don't need someone taking away my ben gay now.

They left us in. It was funny but we were surprised at the dogs reaction.

There are guard / detection dogs at Disney?

I have no problem with the security aspect but I'm afraid of dogs so this would have freaked me out had I not known. The last time I flew out of ORD (Chicago), they had a gauntlet that you walked through BEFORE SECURITY, where two large dogs held by two large security guys ran up and down on each side. Was scared for absolutely no reason, LOL.

We saw security dogs at Disney daily, both on the way in and out of the park. I would be prepared to be around them.

Every time I go to Epcot, there is a security dog. The dog is usually just sitting there. But sometimes he’s walked beside the line of guests. Just ignore him. He’s working. If you don't want to see him, turn your back to him. I’ve had lunch meat and cheese in my backpack and the dog kept walking. He’s trained on specific scents.

I understand the fear. I use to be scared of large dogs after a childhood incident.

My husband was stopped by a guard and dog at Disney Springs a few years ago for what we assume was from using an off brand strong smelling hand sanitizer…they were very nice about it.
