I am dog/house sitting for a friend of mine and she insists on paying me. She keeps asking me how much and I have no clue. Any insight into this?

I dog sit quite often. Are you just going to her house and walk/feed the dog? If that is the case, I charge $15/visit. There is one dog I sit for who spends the night at my house. I charge $25/night for that. Hope this helps.

I pay $20. a visit for my dog sitter. I checked around and over nite stays are probably about $40 - $50

We pay our dog sitter $25 a night. We also make sure the fridge and pantry are both stocked with his favorite goodies, and we usually give him some extra money for gas. He is very dependable, and our dog loves him! He always tells us we are overpaying him, but he's worth it!

Hmmm...that sounds like a lot! I know that she is doing this out of the kindness of her heart and trying to help me out. I'm not certain I feel comfortable charging so much. (even though the $$$ would be awesome!)
I'm gonna be there 9 days...
Maybe I should go into business for myself! YIKES!
What would be a good compromise?

Maybe this helps - I use to work for a petsitting company and we were bonded and insured. So he charged A LOT more. Since I just do it on my own now (and I'm not bonded and insured), I don't charge as much. I am certified in animal CPR and first aid and have about 15 years pet sitting experience.

I watch my ex-husbands dog in my house and I get $20 a day and they provide the food. I treat her just like I treat my dog. She is part of the family and does what we do along with my dog. She is used to coming here, so it works out great.

Well my friend has offered to pay my DD13 $50 for a week to feed/water her dog once a day. She is thrilled and I am happy she has the opportunity to make some $$. He is an old dog though and is hard of hearing and blind, I really hope nothing happens to him while they are gone.

I am sorry I did not catch if you are staying the night or not but I have done quite a bit of dog sitting and had a bit done. The professionals charged me 15.00 a visit and insisted they come 3 times a day. I got paid 25.00 a day when I stayed the week at my coworkers home they gave me food and drink ( i just accepted what they gave me as i was young and trying to make ends meet so the extra money came in handy ) I paid my house sitter 20.00 a day (a coworker ) for two visits a day. I was given 15.00 a day for visiting my aunts dog (she insisted as that is what she paid the dog sitter who just happened to be unavailable on certain days) HTH. The same 25.00 a day and also what I recieved for staying with a different coworkers cat all week.

We pay a local high school girl $15/day to take care of our 3 dogs. She stops by 3x/day but does not stay the night.

I pay our licensed and bonded pet sitting company $15.00 per visit, for our 3 cats. They come every other day and scoop, feed wet food and give love to the one cat that comes out to see them ( the other 2 just hide). They do charge more if thier visit falls on a holiday. They leave detailed reports about what happened and bring special snacks. I am pleased with them and I do think they are reasonable.

It seems like $25/day is the going rate. Maybe I'll say $15. Like I said, she is doing me a favor by having me watch their dog/house sit/etc. She has even said that she normally doesn't have someone watch the dog...She just lets her neighbor let the dog out for the day and then has her bring her in in the evening.
They will be gone for 9 days and she didn't want to leave the dog alone that long-plus they are trying to sell the house-so if the dog needs to be taken elsewhere she wanted to have someone to be able to do that.

We recently paid our pet "sitter" $250 a week----but we have 6 dogs. She stops by twice a day to visit, feed, water, and give them their medicine and follows special feeding instructions for some of them.

She also "cleans" up their accidents as needed (they stay on an enclosed porch) and washes towels, bedding, etc. She runs them to the vet or groomer if needed (as she works at the vet during the day). Very reliable and loves dogs. She did a great job the four weeks that I was gone.

Compared to the professional dog sitters for the number of dogs that we have, this is very reasonable and I feel very comfortable leaving the dogs in her care.

We pay our sitter $25/day for staying at our home. I think she thinks we OVERPAY her, lol! It works great for us and for her, as her regular job is nearby.

I stock the fridge with stuff they eat (they are vegetarians) I will be gone Friday night to the following Saturday evening...
