Can anyone suggest a really good dog shampoo that makes your dog smell good and not like a dog.

I buy mine online...it is natural and due to allergies, both skin and then UGH, he gets bacterial infections (that yuck smell) it works great. We use it exclusively now. Costs more, but for my dog, worth every penny. Its at allergicpet dot com.

I have had the kind that makes them smell like a baby. It's called Baby Dog. It smells like baby powder :)

I originally got it at PetSmart but they don't carry it anymore so I have to order it online.

I use a nice papya scented one my little cockapoo. It's natural and didn't cost to much.

I took her down the isle and let her pick it out herself hahah

I was at my hair stylist and they sell Paul Mitchell dog shampoo! I was shocked and did a double take, but it definitely was Paul Mitchell. I didn't buy it, but I am thinking about it. I love the smell of PM products for people, so I would think the pet shampoos would have a good smell. I think it cost around $9 for a bottle which is a bit pricey, but I still think I might try it.

Here is the link for online ordering and descriptions:

If anyone has tried it, I would like to know how it smells.

Baby shampoo. My dog fights during his bath and this way his eyes won't burn when (it does) soap gets in them. Who said Poodles are prissy and don't like to get dirty??? This thing would stink all the time if I'd let him. :sad2:

I tried the PM for dogs and did not like it. I have 2 boxers with sensitive skin and it made them flake even with the conditioner. I use Vet Solutions and an oatmeal conditioner . They smell great for a few days then it's back to stinky dogs
Thank you for posting this, i am interested in finding a better solution as well.

I'm no expert but the guys at Petsmart have told me that most of what's on their shelves is pretty close to plain old baby shampoo. (and that plain old baby shampoo is what they use on their own dogs...):confused3

We've been using a strawberry goats milk shampoo on our black lab. It smells amazing and makes his fur really soft...problem is he hates being clean and will roll in the grass the first chance he gets followed by a swim in the pond...I've learned there is little point in bathing him as it's a big waste of time!

We use either baby shampoo or Head and Shoulders.

try BuddyWash, spa lavish pet both are all natural and smell great

I just use my kids shampoo on them. I don't need a flea product so regular shampoo works just great.

My neighbor has a little furry dog (the moppy looking kind?) and after a bath he puts diluted fabric softener on her fur, lets it sit for a few minutes and then rinses. She smells like clean laundry!

We use Mane & Tail for the humans, the horse, the 8 dogs, and someday the cat if we can ever catch him...it's about $6 per bottle at Wal-Mart it's not in the pet section, just the regular health/beauty aisles

All of the baby shampoos are fine, I think using a finishing spay after they are dried makes them smell like little air fresheners, and the staying power is much greater then what just the shampoos can offer.....ask a groomer, or go to a grooming website. I have one called blue breeze and it is awesome!!

I used the john paul pet (paul mitchell) and I love love love it!!! It makes my springer smell SOOOO good and it last a long time! I use the brighting shampoo. However, the only salon in my town that sold it, has been bought by another company so they no longer sell it.

After readying all the reviews, I think I'm going to try the baby shampoo idea. I love the smell of johnson and johnson nighttime, and maybe it will calm down our springer... well it's a nice thought lol:rotfl:

Bichon Bubbles
Shampoo Recipe

22 oz Ivory Liquid Dish Detergent (or Dove)
2 oz. glycerine (available at drug store)
2 cups plain white vinegar
Put in a gallon container and full with water

i love this shampoo. it is great for dogs with allergies. i make mine in a 5 quart icecream pail. i just stir it up everytime i use it.

But if you use something like frontline or advantage (advantix?) you shouldn't double up on the flea/tick treatments.
