We had to put our dog to sleep last week. He was a 12 year old yellow lab/white shepard mix. It was bone cancer. It was a 4-year love affair, we adopted him when he was 8 years old.
DH and I had actaully applied to a lab rescue several days before we found out about the cancer, as we were toying with the idea to bring a new dog into our home. (We would never have done that had we known of our dog's cancer.) Eventhough we were devastated about putting our dog down, we still opted to do the phone interview with a lab rescue the day after. Our thought was it would take several weeks for the approval process, and then maybe months to find the right dog... but if the right dog came up on the website, we wanted to be ready.
Yesterday, a new dog showed up on the website. She is 12 years old. And was relinqiushed due to allergies with the former owners baby. This dog sounds perfect for us. We aren't necessarily looking for a 12 year old, but the personality and termperment this dog appears to have is perfect for us, so we have e-mailed the "match committee" about this dog.
Now - yesterday, we had our house cleaned. Just ran out of time, and needed someone to do it. So - I know there wasn't anything on the floor in the family room.
(And...as I have been telling a coworker all week - I would love a sign of some sort that Riley would have wanted us to have another dog.).
So this morning...it wasn't exactly a "penny" that caught our eye. In front of the couch, there was a tennis ball.

Sounds like a sign to me!
