Dog problem

So i posted a few weeks back camping in a tent with a dog. I had originally called two or three weeks ago and asked if I could board her during the day and she could stay with us at night she said sure no problem. Now I called on Monday and changed the dates to Oct30- Nov 12 and the gentlemen told me she could not stay with us and I would have to board her. So should I change from a pop up tent site and try for a preferred or premium site ? I am just really worried about boarding her for that many days, and I really cant budget in trying to rent something like and rv and doing it that way. My only problem is our tent is fairly large! Thanks for the advice!

If you board the dog during the day only I think they will still charge you for a full day. I might be wrong on the new kennel rates though. No matter what class site you have, the dog cant be left alone in the tent while you are gone.

We have been taking our dogs for many, many years to Disney World and have left them in the Kennel over the years with no problems, we now leave them in our camper..

It's not a site problem the rules state NO PET in tents
Actually, it is a two way problem. It is a site problem because there are no partial hook up pet sites (which are listed as Tent & Pop Up sites), Additionally the Disney web site has changed.

It used to say:
"Q. Can you tell me more about keeping my pet at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground?

A. Specific areas of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have been made available to Guests with pets. These are full hook-up campsites. There is a $5.00 per day pet charge. (This is a per day, per site charge only, not per pet.) Sorry, Guests in tents and pop-up campers may not keep pets at their site - they must be kenneled.

As of January 2011 it now states:

Pets
Pets like to go on vacation, too, so we offer a limited number of pet-friendly Preferred Hook-Up and Premium campsites. Pets are not permitted to stay in vehicles without air-conditioning or at tent sites.

So, previously the "official" rule was no pets in tents & pop ups. The two tent loops (1500 & 2000) are NOT pet loops. I have spoken to FW Cast Members several times and they state that the statement should be that pets can not be left unattended in a tent or pop up.

If you have any questions regarding this give the reception outpost a call at 407-824-2900, but please remember that you may get different answers each time you call:confused3.

You wouldn't want to chance ruining your vacation over trying to bring your dog where it doesn't belong. People do sometimes get by with breaking the rules; but you never know when Disney may enforce them... and you could end up having to leave or take your dog to the kennel at WDW.

My opinion (for what it is worth):
Having a pet in a partial loop is breaking the rules
Having a pet in a pet loop while camping in a tent, not breaking the rules as long as the pet is never unattended at the site.

Again, only cast members can say what is correct and if you ask 5 of them you will get 5 different answers!

Does this mean they no longer allow pets in full hookup sites? I have 1 booked for May and another for October and was not told of this change:confused3

Ok...I just called Ft Wilderness and the woman had to check with the office that told her that it is not listed because all full hookup loops are pet friendly. Whew!!!

I was never planning on leaving her in the tent while we went to the parks, I would come back to a big hole and her gone. And it would kill her in that heat. And I wouldn't risk getting thrown out of the park at all. I guess we will just have to board her, I just wish she could stay with us, Maybe I will think about just booking a upgraded site so she could stay with us.

An upgraded site that is designated for pets would work best probably.

Here is the full pet reference that's on http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/campsites-at-fort-wilderness-resort/

Tim quoted part of it so here it is in its entirety:

Pets
Pets like to go on vacation, too, so we offer a limited number of pet-friendly Preferred Hook-Up and Premium campsites.

•All pets must be kept on a handheld leash that is 6 feet or shorter or confined in the interior of the owner's personal recreational vehicle. For pop-ups and tents, pets must be secured in a container, such as a portable cage or kennel.
•Campsite Guests with pet privileges may take their dogs to play in the off-leash Waggin' Trails Dog Park or walk the many on-leash trails. So that our Guests with pets can enjoy ample time at the Walt Disney World theme parks and destinations, day and overnight kennel care is available at Best Friends Pet Care.
•Pet owners are required to pick up after and properly dispose of their pet's droppings.
•Pets that interfere with the quality of the Guest experience at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in any away (such as aggression, noise, etc.) or generate a legitimate complaint to management will result in the pet owner being required to discontinue the pet's inappropriate behavior, remove the pet to an off-site kennel or leave the Resort.

So if you stayed in an upgraded, pet site you could still board the dog during the day and container it in your vehicle or tent with you at night (if that would work). If I were your neighbor I would be sympathetic but would not want to be awakened in my pop-up by a barking dog at 2 a.m.. So do what works but please be considerate of your neighbors.

Good luck.

I’m glad Disney finally cleared up their pet rules. It is also good to see they now let pets in pop-ups and tents.

A pet in a cage in a tent or a pop up without AC.............I bet there are dead pets by the end of the summer.....:scared1:.

People, please kennel your pets//////

I would change your statement to Please kennel your pets if you don't have A/C. My pop up has A/C and you could hang meat in it when it is running full blast.

Every time they change the web site to make it better they take something good out....

I liked it when it said "Pets are not permitted to stay in vehicles without air-conditioning or at tent sites"

we have an ac rigged to our tent that works pretty well, I dont know what we will do we will probably just put her in the kennel. I am just worried how she would be.

Why take her if you are just going to lock her in a kennel. It would be a lot cheeper to kennel her at home.

that is what I was going to say..... we have a chow mix that we adore. But she would hate to be boarded in a place she is not familiar. She loves our vet... and they love her so I know when we board her there, she is getting great attention. We had to ask ourselves.... are we putting our dog in the car for 11 hours for her or us? If it were for her... she would hate it.

Also, as far as breaking the rules in a non-pet loop... please consider those that specifically stay in non-pet loops to avoid dogs. Not everyone is a dog person......

Okay I just want to clarify something. I am not the type of person that breaks rules if its not allowed I wouldn't do it. I was just asking if anyone had heard of it or if I was just gonna get five different answers. I don't really have any where else to board her right now and she hasn't really been away from us yet granted it has only been three weeks but that is just how are schedules work. So I just wanted to clarify that.

I can totally understand bringing our pet with us and boarding her. She would much rather see us at the end of each day and be with us at our campsite, rather than be boarded back home and not see her for a week.
We had such a hard time seeing her little broken heart after being gone for a week,,,we just won't leave her behind anymore.

yeah I know,,,I'm just a mushy animal lov'n freak,,
ya'll will just havta live with it.

I wouldn't worry too much. The way Disney enforces rules you could probably tie a wolf to a tree on your site and they wouldn't say anything to you.:rolleyes1
