I searched this excellent forum and answered most of my questions except.....Can our dog ride on the rental golf cart with us? He is a lab, 80 lbs, likes riding them at other parks; he should be good IF they allow it.

I may be wrong, but I believe that pets are not allowed on rental buggies.

Now that being said, I have seen pets on rental buggies when we were at the Fort,,however, that doesn't mean that the Fort security didn't put a stop to it either,,:confused3

We have our own buggy that we bring and they (the Fort) haven't said anything to us about our pet ride'n with us. (yet).

There has been much more leniency on this since the dog park opened. So if you're headed there they usually let you go on your way.

We've brought our own golf cart and no one said anything about our dog (a St. Bernard) riding on the cart. This was a few years ago, but we'd ride to the kennels (when they were still at the campground) as well the pet park.

You are allowed if you bring your own golf cart; you are NOT allowed to bring pets on Disney golf carts.

I have also been searching the forum for the answer to this question. I have found several posts where people have stated that pets are not allowed on Disney golf carts, however I can't figure out where this rule is documented. I just read my paperwork from our trip last year (golf cart lease agreement; vehicle carts and recreational devices rules and regulations; and Gazette) and I couldn't find anything about pets on golf carts. We are frequent FW campers, but this is our first trip with our new dog and I'm trying to properly prepare for it. Can anyone tell me if this rule is still in effect, and if so, where is it stated? Thanks!

I'm sitting in 400 loop now and a family with dog just drove by, in a Disney cart.
So based on this you go with the "Better to seek forgiveness than to seek permission"?

Works for me UNLESS, for whatever reason, taking the dog in a cart is a necessity.

Took Mr.Pibbs (15 lb Cockerpoo) on Fort cart rental to see Halloween decorations this past October. Never had a problem. Even stopped at Meadows for a little shopping while he waited with DH outside store.

FWC,

As long as Mr Pibbs obeys all traffic laws in Orange County, is properly seated in the cart, and does not exceed the speed limit, the Disney Popo dont have a problem.

There are far worse golf cart criminals to go after like under age kids behind the wheel.

We've never had a problem with taking our dog on the golf cart and have used both onsite and offsite rental carts.

There is no rule that says dogs are not allowed on Disney carts, Disney does not have a problem at all with this. You will not get stopped by any CM telling you your dog is not allowed unless of course you are not following the rules. Bring your dog along and have fun..

Sorry to spoil the party, but here are the official rules for non-human Guests from the internal cast info web site:

Requirements for pets at Fort Wilderness:

  • There is a fee per day charged for pets to stay at the site. Check the Fort Wilderness Pet Sites for pricing details.
  • Maximum of four dogs per site
  • All dogs and cats must have a vaccination certificate with the Guest
  • Dogs must have proof of the following vaccinations, given by a licensed Veterinarian:
    • Rabies
    • D.H.P. (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza)
    • Parvovirus
    • Bordetella (aka Kennel Cough, Canine Cough)
  • Cats must have proof of the following vaccinations, given by a licensed Veterinarian:
    • Rabies
    • Panleukopenia (aka Feline Distemper)
    • Rhinotracheitis
    • Calcivirus
  • Pets must be leashed or tethered (max. 8') at all times
  • Pets are restricted to their designated pet loop except when being walked (on leash) to the dog park.
  • Pets cannot be unattended in RVs unless adequate climate control is provided
  • Pets may not be unattended if other Guests are disturbed (Example: barking or whining)
  • Pets are not permitted in tents and pop-up campers.
  • Pets must be walked on designated pet path.
  • Pet owners are responsible for clean-up after their pet.
  • Pets not allowed on electric carts unless being transported to the dog park.
  • Pet owners not following these policies must kennel their pet.
  • Pet loops are available in Preferred, Premium, and Full Hook-up site categories.

Those are the official rules. What is enforced in practice may be entirely different.

Just got off the phone with JC at Ft Wilderness (who rents the Golf Carts). I asked him if there was still an official rule regarding dogs riding on Disney carts. He said, "Dogs are absolutely NOT allowed on the carts and that people are advised of the rule both verbally and in writing". He went on to say that they are aware that some people simply ignore the rules. That doesn't make it o-kay. It just makes it a bigger problem. There seem to be alot of assorted problems with dogs and their owners at Ft Wilderness in the last several years. Perhaps it's time to go back to the days when dogs were not allowed at Ft Wilderness.

While I hope it doesn't come to this, I can certainly understand why it might.

There are tons of responsible pet owners out there who absolutely just want to do the right thing and take care of their pets and are also concerned how it can affect/impact others. Then there are the (relatively) select few who who could care less about the rules, their pets, or others or that think they are the only ones that matter (The "ME" Generation). The problem is, is that all the good (so to speak) owners don't get the recognition and the "Bad" ones certainly stand out. The rules are often made to address the "Bad" ones. If you think about it, though, it's a vicious cycle, because you make new rules, the good folks follow it and the bad ones still don't care.

So in the end we are forced with the rules that are "Absolute" such as "NO PETS ALLOWED" because it's easier to deal with.

That being said, quite frankly, I don't see an issue with a well behaved dog on the Golf Cart as long as they don't cause damage and can be done safely, but alas, how safe will a 150 pound Lab (yes mine is about that big) sit on a golf cart as compared to a Poodle sitting in my lap? (We won't even let our Lab ride in the back of my Truck for fear of him falling/jumping out.)

They are allowed as long as you are going to the dogpark at the time of the K9 riding on the cart. Of course, nothing said anything about taking the long way there.

Personally my dogs legs aren't long enough to reach the pedals.

Looks like JC doesn't know the official rules as posted above.
