Dog help QUICK! Will it outgrow aggressiveness?

What kind of dog is it? Is it a mutt? I'm just curious. I've seen a few German Shepherds that fit that description. I'm not saying German Shepherds are bad...I actually like them but...

Sorry I didn't make it clear, he is nuetered and again, he's a mix.We were told a terrier mix...pretty generic.Now of course, oh yeah...PIT BULL mix .

I completely agree with Jules! We have bred boxers for the last 12 years...and every once in a while there is an aggressive one that is Overly protective of the family. Even with professional training, many of these dogs can not be broken! Get the evaluation and see if it is a learned behavior or an inherited trait! Only then will you know.

Pit Bull's are terriers, so do you know what else it is mixed with. Is it like a Pit Bull/Jack Russell terrier mix or a Pit Bull terrier/Sheperd kind of mix? All terriers are generally aggressive and fiesty but most of them (with the exception of the pit bull) really have no strength to back it up. My Jack Russell terrier is a beast, but at 9 lbs she really isn't much of a threat!

Ahaaa...Pit Bull mix. That explains the aggressiveness. I don't have any problem with pit bulls personally BUT there are just too many stories about them for me to have any "trust" in them.

In my opinion you are taking your chances when you get a Pit Bull, German Shepherd, Doberman, Rotweiler etc... yeah some of those dogs might be ok but it all depends on the breeding and also how you train them etc... Just my opinion. But with kids I personally would not be attracted to that type of dog.

I'll stick with my friendly Golden Retriever. Great family dog. She will be 12 in June.

O.k., I'm probably gonna get flamed for this but...Pit Bulls (which can actually be one of about four different terriers btw) are NOT inherently aggressive dogs. I have had 3 males and never had any problems w/ any of our family or friends. The only inident ever was the first one we had when I was about 12 years old knocked some drunk guy down while I was walking the dog b/c the drunk guy ran into me and about knocked me down. The one I have now is the biggest couch potato ever, very affectionate and playful too. We also had Doberman's when I was a kid and they were the calmest, best behaved dogs ever. They could be walked anywhere w/ out a leash and never leave a perfect heel or bark at anyone, not even another animal. The only dog we ever had that was a problem at all was a ittle 6 inch tall Kairn Terrier. He bit me, my sister ( across her eye) and at least one other person but never have I had trouble w/ any larger dog. Also, Peppy, the Kairn was not raised by us but by somebody else and may have been mistreated so it may not have been his fault at all. Usually when a dog is that aggressive they have been neglected or mistreated and depending on alot of factors may be able to be completely rehabilitated.

One other thing is to chefck w/ your vet to see if there may be a medical or genetic problem which could be causing the agression. If so they may be able to treat him.

Yes, please don't get discouraged because its a Pit Bull Mix. Like the other poster said, some of the nicer dogs I've seen have been Pit Bulls and alot of them get bad raps for the few bad ones that are out there. Please keep us updated on the dogs progress. And any dog can be aggressive. I have a friend I showed with who bought a Golden Retriever(from a reputable breeder) . The dog was 2 years old and showed little bits of aggression here and there. She knew that and watched the dog closely around people, never showed aggression toward other dogs. Well one day her Yorkie was running past the Golden, the Golden snatched it up, shook it and killed it. She immediately had the Golden put down. But just an example that any dog even the ones with a reputation for sweetness can be nasty. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have to agree with Shellie, my SIL has been breeding pit bulls (she calls them American Staffordshire Terriers) for awhile. They've all be wonderful dogs. Very gentle and she has raised two boys around the dogs for about 17 years. She has been very careful with breeding. Problem with ANY dog is inbreeding. Since your's is a mix, hopefully it is not a breeding problem. I really hope this works out for you!

If I knew how to insert a picture of him I would, but he's no Jack Russell, that's for sure!He's a medium size dog now at 7 months, and I have no idea what size he'll get to be. As for what the Pit is miixed with, I have no idea.

My sister said her vet told her to squeeze his toes, and if he didn't mind than he wasn't really aggressive, just had some fear and normal puppiness.I don't know.I'm waiting for the dog guy to call me back to set up a time for him to be seen. Hopefully it will go well, but I will keep you informed.

Shellie, love your furbaby! He is soo cute. It is too bad that pit bulls have such a bad reputation! They make great pets!
I have never met a pit bull that I didn't like...I can't say that about humans!
