Dog Friendly Hotel????

There is a LaQuinta Inn and Suites on Polynesian Isle Blvd which is near the Calypso Cay area. This area is right of 535 and very close to WDW. LaQuinta is a pet friendly hotel chain. You might want to check it out since many of their hotels do not have weight minimums, but be aware, there are sometimes breed restrictions.

As for the Epcot kennels, what happened to Matty'smom is unacceptable, but also from what I have heard, is not the norm. I know that Epcot has added the dog walking service for a fee, but when boarding your pets there, please remember, that WDW kennels are not full service kennels and thus, the staff can sometimes be untrained. Not all member of the kennel staff has had the kennel association training and not all staff is permanently assigned to the kennel. Often kennel staff work other areas of the park, such as ticket and front gates and due to this fact, they can be pulled out of the kennel if the other areas are short staffed.

Oh and if you do board your pets overnight, no matter what the kennel staff tells you, you can get access to your pet after they close. Just call security and show them your pink kennel copy and they will let you in to see your pet and walk them even if the kennel is closed. I have been told my kennel staff in the past that I couldn't get in after hours, but having boarded my dog there many times, I knew it wasn't the policy.

Another suggestion that i would make is that if you have special food for your pet, that you request no feeding and do it yourself when you check on your pet. I know that can be annoying and time consuming, but at least you will know that your pet is getting the correct food. I can easily see how a kennel that is short staffed would give the wrong food to a pet.

I always keep in mind that WDW kennels are primarily set up as day kennels (even though they allow overnight stays). If you do board you pet at their kennel, please remember that even if they offer some kennel services such as walking, they are really not a full service kennel and the pets get very little individual attention.

PaintedStuff and Floridagirrl, we aren't going until November (Thanksgiving). However, I did start another thread asking for comments regarding the resort on this board, and received favorable responses. You can also check out their site at MainstaySuites.com. It looks like a great bargain.
