Hi everyone,

I know it sounds silly to some people, but I am planning a birthday party for my Goldendoodle, Winston. He is turning 1 in 2 weeks and I'm going to be having a small, very casual party at a local park, where you can rent a pavilion, has picnic tables, etc. And yes I am sure leashed dogs are allowed ;) I've pretty much planned the menu - simple and easy stuff like sandwich platters from Publix, chips, soda, water, and I ordered the cake today. Bought the decorations, plates, napkins, etc. I have doggy doo-doo bags, planning on having a dish of dog treats, and plenty of water (and dishes) for the doggies that are coming. I'm trying to think of the little stuff that I might be forgetting that I should have there. Any suggestions?

What kind of decorations or theme? Scooby doo?? Underdog? Garfield?

I guess you need frisbees or small balls to throw around. Maybe they could play poker and you can take a picture. I hear that's popular.;) Are you having a doggie cake too like the doggie cookies thing?

You could buy little plastic fire hydrants and bottles of shampoo for their hehehehe wait for it......doggie bags:lmao::lmao:

I actually did throw a one year birthday party for my dog. We didn't have any other dogs over, but I did invite my sister and her husband, and my BFF's family. We had prime rib for dinner so Max got to have a couple of nice bones.

I wrapped his presents so he would have the fun of ripping the paper off his new piggy rope and rawhide bone. My son was only 7 at the time and thought it was a hoot. It was a fun time. :)

Ahhh I see you are one of the people who think dog parties are silly. No joke here. I moved to this area last year for a new job and I have gotten a good group of friends, plus some of my family live nearby so I thought it would be a good excuse to get together and have fun, plus celebrate that my dog is turning 1. I'd say that once I have children I wouldn't throw a party for a dog, but I'd probably be lying, although I don't plan on doing something like this every year.

The theme is "Dogz"...bought the supplies from party city, basically paw prints and dogs on the decor. I'm not getting a cake for the dogs, mainly because my dog (the birthday boy) can't eat it so I'm not wasting my money on something he can't even enjoy. Plus there will only be 2 maybe 3 other dogs there besides mine.

The park has a policy where dogs have to be leashed so I'm not really encouraging off leash behavior, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have something. I know for sure I would not let me dog run free - I'd never see him again!

I would have had it at my place, but I live in a one-bdrm apartment so not much space to entertain. I requested no presents because he just destroys toys and really can't eat special treats so I'm hoping people read what the invite said. I think it will be fun and silly - just an excuse to get together with some friends and family.

Where's the party at? party: :bday:

Well, my mama gets yellow cupcakes for her dachsunds (12 & 9) b-days and the dogs get to share one. They also get a bag of treats, I buy them one too. She usually just has my kids over for it and she calls me to sing Happy Birthday on speakerphone. She also buys them a new stuffed animal & treats for Xmas and wraps them, as do I, and after we all open presents and put them up, the dogs get to come in the living room and unwrap their presents. Last year they sent a 12pk of Fancy Feast as a gift to my cat, since they wouldn't get along in person, lol.

A party seems fun for a puppy. My dd went to a human bday party that was dog themed and the host made them "puppy chow" which had chex mix, chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. Maybe that would be a good snack for the human guests? You could make a mix cd to play in the background & burn for guests(I googled a few): Hound Dog, the Doggy Dogg Word by Snoop Dogg, Gonna Buy Me a Dog by the Monkees, Who Let the Dogs Out by Baha Men, Hound Dog by Elvis, Puppy Love by the Osmonds, Ol' Red by Blake Shelton, Snoopy & the Red Baron, the Scooby Doo theme song, Hey Bulldog by the Beatles, Dog Eat Dog by AC/DC, Atomic Dog by George Clinton, Chihuahua by DJ Bobo, The Oscar Meyer weiner jingle, and Puppy Love by Donny Osmond.

Thank you so much for posting those songs! I was trying to make a list of dog themed music to play on my ipod during the party...just some background music, but had the hardest time finding songs. :thumbsup2

We gave our chocolate lab a party when she turned one. We invited neighbor dogs and friends dogs and had pup cakes, ice cream (frosty paws brand) and treats. It was so much fun!
Our local gourmet dog shops have the cutest cakes and treats!

Sounds like lots of fun! I hope you have great weather. Happy 1st Birthday Winston!:bday::cake::bday:

OT, but why are they called goldendoodles? Where does the extra "d" come from? Shouldn't it be Goldenpoodle?

That is a very good question! I have no idea, but I bet I could possibly find an answer from my felloe doodle owners that are more "in the know" than me.

Many years ago when we had our yellow lab we decided to have a little party for him in the yard. We set up a little pool and had frosty paws. We had about 6 neighborhood dogs come by for like an hour. Spencer has been gone over 3 years now and that day still brings back beautiful memories for me and my kids. They were young and really don't remember but we have it on film. Just wanted to let you know that. :)

LOL You'd think they would just be called golden/poodle mixes. Have fun at your party.:)

Thanks for sharing that! It's definitely more for me than him, but I have no doubt he will love all the extra love and attention he will be getting that day. While I don't plan on having true parties like this every year for him, I do plan on always doing something a little extra special on birthdays and anniversaries (the day I brought him home)...my mom has done the same thing for her standard poodle, who will be 6 in December.

This reminds me of when my good friends had a birthday party at their home for their Shepherd mix, Boo. All 4 of their dogs are large, Boo is dominant. Anyway, the hostess made a really large and cute "cake" out of canned dogfood and put it on a pizza box. They put it on the floor in front of all 4 dogs and within 30 seconds they had an all out dogfight on their hands! The dogs didn't try to hurt each other, they were just overwhelmed with all that delicious canned food (which they never got regularly) in front of them. My friends broke it up, divvied up the rest of the food, and had a good laugh at how stupid they were.

It got very exciting there for a few minutes.

Happy Birthday Winston!

Ignore any flack you may get for this. Of course the party is for you; you are choosing to celebrate your dog and enjoy a few hours with friends. Nothing wrong with this. Dogs bring out the best in us. I recently lost my beloved 14-year-old dog. His legacy to me I feel is that he brought many wonderful people I now call friends into my life. Dogs are great conversation starters, get us off the couch, and bring new experiences to our lives.

Happy Birthday to your pooch.:dogdance::cake::bday: Enjoy the party and your friends (both 2-legged and 4-legged).

Well the answer I have gotten so far is that the original "makers" of the Goldendoodle wanted the name to sound similar to the Labradoodle, which has the "d" in it from Labrador. Makes sense I guess.

seriously LOL--I don't even KNOW my dogs birthday nor do I remember the day I got him nevermind give him a party ....
