So I'm preparing for a trip to the US. Picked up some US cash. Wasn't careful enough with where I put it. Left the room and the dog decided to eat some of it. 3 $20 Bills partially eaten. More than 50% of each of the Bills remain.

My Canadian bank said they can't do anything with them. Anyone have any ideas or am I just out of luck? Can I walk into a US bank while in the States and get them replaced?

Ugh. I don't know either. Maybe call a different branch and get another opinion. I thought as long as most of a bill was left, banks would replace them..

Because it is US currency the Canadian bank is wiping their hands of it. I've done a bit more research and it looks like I should be able to walk into a US bank and they will replace them. One bill is 75% intact, one is 65% and the worst one is 55% intact. I've read that so long as there is more than 50% of the bill and they can tell its amount they should replace it.

Failing that it's a registered letter to Washington and a wait for them to issue a cheque (or rather check). For $60 this is probably worth pursuing. Why didn't I just put it away when I had a chance!
