Doesn't everyone already have one? (BF electronics)

Well I guess I am with the rest...Our TV is 5 years old it is a tube tv and I love it and will not replace it til it dies...BUT when it does I will be looking for a deal This one I got on clearance from a local appliance store because it was a floor model. It is a great tv. We do have a 19 in flat screen like pp said and it is in our trailer. Regardless......the point is...when I do need to buy something I look for the best deals..if it is black friday so be it..if it is not..then I will not buy it then either. I am not going to buy something that is only discounted a few dollars just to get something on black friday..now my DVDS discounted to 3.99 oh yeah!

We bought a 50" plasma as part of a BF deal 5 years ago. It was the highest rated brand (Panasonic) at the time, so it was not a cheapy model. It has held up wonderfully, and we hope to get many more years of service out of it. Two years ago we bought the kids 32" TVs for their bedrooms -- again a great BF deal from Amazon (also Panasonic) that we've had no problems with. Last year we got a 32" TV for our bedroom to replace the last dinosaur TV we had. It was a cheapy Westinghouse model, but we've had no problems with it at all. Just got 40" TV this year for my mom. My brother and sister are chipping in. For $298 for a 40" TV to replace the crappy tube tv she has is totally worth it.

Got DD a laptop BF deal this year. A decent one, but yes the technology is about a year old. Who cares? She's 14 and will use it for facebook, youtube, and for homework assignments. Computer technology changes so fast that we don't keep our computers longer than 4 years anyway. This should last her just fine for the next 3.5 years until she goes to college.

I also buy the cheap DVD players each year for $20ish. DVD players are a dime a dozen and wear out, so it's nice to have a couple extra around the house.

Now, the real cheapo stuff like the $100 netbooks, I stay away from. But I'll go for deals on xbox games, Wii, etc... if I can save $10 or $20. I don't buy games just because they are cheap though because I learned my lesson that the cheap games never get played. We also bought our first X-box before BF. No deal there because it's the 250gb model with Kinect. There were no deals on this and they are becoming very hard to find, so we got one while we still could.

Now that we are set for TVs for a while, next year it will probably be a Nook/Kindle or some other gadget that we'll be after.

One of tv's is from 1997...it failed and needs a $400 part. Not sir why you must be so hasty to judge based on you.


*I would never buy a tv or any other big electronic on BF. To me it is a time value of money thing anyway. But for our tv...a new one would be cheaper. How many tv's we do own are noone's business but our own though.

I'm sure there are things you do that others would find beyond ridiculous. But that is what makes the world go 'round.

Add me to the list of people who don't have high tech gadgets. I bought my first Wii last night after wanting one for years! My TV is a regular one, 27" if I remember correctly. My computer was 8 years old when it was replaced with a rebuilt one last month.

That being said, I will upgrade to a flat TV in a year or two so I can mount it on the wall to get my TV cabinet out of my little living room.

We don't buy what we don't need just because it's black friday - but BF does allow us to get some things we want at a great price.

I bought these at Walmart today (online):

bike for DS - he doesn't have one and will use it alot next summer $39

pots and pans - the handles are missing or falling off mine and the non-stick isn't working anymore - $89

Blu-ray player - we rarely go to the movies and instead buy disney movies, choose free library movies or redbox - a little splurge $69

Emerson 32 flatscreen - our tv screen is starting to turn purple after we watch it for awhile and we know it's on it's last leg - $189

Waffle maker - I make all our breakfast foods instead of buying frozen and hopefully this will make my life easier - $9

I think I bought items we will be using on a regular basis and in the end buying them on BF saved me alot of money in the long run.

Our dvd players are all frying so grabbing our first blue ray player was a no brainer. I also picked up some much wanted video games at a discount. I also didn't fight anyone for any of this.

It's nice to have options, some choose old and tried and true, some choose new and shiny. Some like their old spouse, some want a new adventure. Some stay in their old tire house till death, some move every year.

People have choices, just like you. I could have a WHY fest on you, too, but it wouldn't be cool, now would it?

Our main tvs are both hand-me-downs, 22" in the living room that is DEF on it's way out and a 32" in our bedroom. The downstairs tv only has regular cable, our bedroom has extra channels, but no premium channels. The kids all have tvs, two of which aren't even hooked up to cable (dd uses hers for movies and music, ds uses his for xbox 350 which he got about 3 yrs ago), the third tv has regular cable. We have a 1 yr old desktop but no laptops in our house. We do ok but I am looking forward to buying a new tv for the living room but will wait until this one absolutely dies! We seem to survive just fine.

Bought dd a new tv for her bedroom in Walmart's BF sale, other than that our TVs are a minimum of 8 years old. 26" in the family room and 19" in living room (bigger TV went out and we haven't replaced it). I am buying DH a new TV for the family room for Christmas but we have a built in cabinet it must fit and there wasn't one on sale that would fit. I will get it closer to Christmas.


DD does have a Wii, got it last year. Laptops were bought at Best Buy when i started school online and the desktop was going out.

I shop BF every year but that doesn't mean I buy electronics every year. In fact, looking at our Walmart a LOT of people were not buying big TVs (they had many left late this afternoon).

Just because someone shops BF every year does not mean they are buying the same things.

I thought I recognized you, mrodgers, You're that guy who yelled, "Hey, you kids keep off my lawn!" when we were walking home from school in the third grade, aren't you?

For the record, I've never even left my house on Black Friday until this year. But the TVs I bought were either purchased from Best Buy last week or ordered online. One is a Christmas gift for a daughter leaving for college in a couple of years, and the other is to replace a bedroom TV so I can stream Netflix, etc. I'm ready to start replacing my old box TVs and how and when I do it is none of your business.
