I mean really listen to you?

Yesterday I went grocery shopping. On my way home I decided to stop at Wendy’s for chili and baked potatoes to take home. Don’t judge. After putting groceries away I took the Wendy’s food out of the bags. No sour cream for my husband’s “sour cream and chives” baked potato. So, I told him…”they didn’t put sour cream in the bag so you’re going to have to put some of your chili on your potato” which he does most of the time anyway. I ate my chili but decided to leave my potato for lunch today. Went to the fridge. My potato is gone. His is still in the fridge. I asked him why he ate MY potato. His response? “I thought they were both the same.” Good grief. I am so annoyed with him right now😖

Edited to add: I left out a key part! His potato had chives on top and missing the sour cream. My potato had melted cheddar cheese on top. Geez, how could I forget to put that in! ☺️

It depends on if he’s watching a race or not - LOL!

In all seriousness, I’ll give my DH a 90% on being really dialed in and listening to me. In all fairness, I would give myself the same grade.

I guess if you specifically told him 'here is my potato with the melted cheddar on top, and here is your potato with the chives but no sour cream packet,' maybe I could see being a little bit annoyed. Though, sour cream and shredded cheddar are kind of staples for us and in my fridge at all times, so I'd probably just add more cheddar and pop it in the microwave to melt it. (And I might add sour cream too, maybe a handful of green onions, and some crumbled veggie sausage; now I'm hungry for a loaded baked potato).

We have no sour cream in our fridge, and I don’t know what kind of cheese Wendy’s uses on their baked potatoes but regular shredded cheddar just doesn’t taste the same.

Day-to-day, nope... in one ear and out the other. Something important, he's pretty good about actually listening/hearing.

Did you actually tell him you had a different potato?

I can definitely see us having the exact same interaction. The only reason I wouldn't get too annoyed at him is because after 43 years of marriage, I'd be wasting my time. It's not gonna change. However, note that I said not TOO annoyed-I still get annoyed!

After telling him that HIS potato had chives on it, but they forgot the sour cream… I didn’t think I needed to. Obviously I did need to 😆 even though I always get one with cheese, and he gets the sour cream and chives potato.

Yeah, we’ve been married 50 years so I get it😆

I get where you're coming from OP, I mean I think it's understandable to be peeved at it because the end result is you didn't get your potato as it was to be but my first thought was he didn't realize there was something different about the potatoes and assumed both were goofed up from Wendy's.

With your update that it was one had cheese on it (yours) and his didn't honestly I'm still going with he didn't realize there was something different about the potatoes thinking both probably got cheese on it and he didn't bother checking either one because in many cases with fast food that is a likely scenario that more than just one item got goofed. He may have interpreted both potatoes were the same so it didn't matter which one he chose out of the fridge to eat. For us my husband doesn't want cheese on his burger and it happens that either they will forget cheese on both burgers when I like cheese on mine or they will put cheese on both burgers when he doesn't want cheese. It's less of an issue if they just forget the cheese but if they add it to both burgers he now has to scrape off as much as he can the cheese. I can tell you that it's happened to us inadvertently that we've taken a bite out of each other's orders simply because they messed up the order.

Now if you had explicitly told him my potato has cheese on it, yours doesn't and is also lacking sour cream I would totally be like he wasn't actively listening to you which annoyingly does happen. I get the whole "you didn't tell me that' from my husband when yes I did...several times in fact 🙄

Maybe chalk this one up to an honest error

We can argue about anything. One store has something for .25 each, and the other has it four for a dollar.
