Every year before prom, the seniors at the high school watch a presentation put on by the EMS.

It's a mock car crash. Scenario is after prom the students get drunk, drive, and get in a car accident. Police, Ambulances, Fire Department, etc. show up and try to help and save people. It's all fictional but it shows what can and does happen.

Does your HS do this to prevent drinking and driving on Prom night?

yep, my HS did that last year sorta.
but it was a MADD video thingy, not a mock car accident.
that would just be creepy!!!

they show the video(s) to scare everyone into being smart :thumbsup2

i always hated watching those presentations, they're so upsetting :sad1: :scared:

I don't know if we do. I do know that they do not drink and drive all over the ground in chalk though. But people just wiped it away and made it say do drink and drive.

They put out a totaled car infront of the school

at my old school...yes they did it...and they had a hearse (sp?), ambulance, police, everything. i didnt see it but my moms friends' daughter was a senior and they did it...they also made a tape of it that all the seniors get for free..and i saw it. its SCARY!

Yep. We have a hearse and a funeral scene too.
I saw it last year coming back from a field trip. It's really creepy cause you see the 'blood' all over the ground and the totalled car.

Possibly.
Not sure.
They did a MADD presentation not too long ago for the entire school. It was ridiculously sad, and I almost cried.
Everyone else was oblivious.

They also have Safe Grad, which is basically kind of like a party hosted by the school, and they have lots of stuff going on. It's basically something to keep people from having parties Grad week and getting drunk and driving.
If you leave the school, you aren't allowed back in. If you're signed up to attend, and you don't show up, a call goes home telling your parent/guardian telling them you didn't show up.

We'll probably have this presentation too.

This is exactly why we are taking a bus to and from after prom and not a car :thumbsup2

Our prom commitee had to attend a party safe conference and then they have a presentation with 2 paramedics and a police officer about it. They showed a video that showed how prom after parties go wrong and told us a bunch of stories. I think they are coming another 2 times? Or maybe once more for students and once for parents. And we aren't allowed to drive ourselves to prom. We have to take a taxi, limo or have someone else drive us.

Nope. We don't really have a problem with drinking and driving, because right after prom people go down the shore (to the beach) and party down there.

The entire school has to watch it. I hate being forced to watch these kinds of things. I think they're absolutely ridiculous because if a kid doesn't get it by now, they probably won't until it actually happens to them.

ya we had to watch the mock car crash they went all out they brought a helicopter and everything

yes, they did that last year. It was this whole big production. They had blood everywhere, one of the kids who volunteered had fake guts hanging out, and the helicopter showed up. They even put one of the kids in a body bag. It was actually really scary. They didn't do it this year, though. I don't know why.

I haven't heard of anything yet.

Then again, not a senior. They most likely will.

I mean, the Freshman/Sophomore (that's pretty self-explanitory!) dance was tonight. I, being anti-social (at times), and anti-traditional-dance (ie school dances except major major ones) (Prom excluded, as well as 8th grade social)

Junior Prom is in 2 weeks (I...think...) so we'll see.

The school hosts an after-prom party, with teacher and parents chaperones, and the rules are pretty strict. Dress code is bent a bit, of course, but there will firmly be no drugs/alcohol (they will search you thoroughly).

*sigh* two more years, Amanda. Then Junior Prom.

I'm not sure about alcohol, but I know they always manage to time sex ed about a week or two before prom. I'm not quite a freshman yet, but a bunch of sophomores in my math class were talking about it, since our prom was last night.

We had something similar. But it was unrealated to prom. We watched car crashes and had lots of speakers. They put a totalled car in front of the school.
It's scare tactics basically...but it does scare people into thinking twice.

My high school did it every other year. I saw it last year. I'm graduated now though.

Today was an interesting day. Students on some committee wore t-shirts that said "every 30 minutes someone is killed by a drunk driving crash. R.I.P."
Every 30 minutes, a chime went off on the intercom, and a selected student from the committee "died". They carried a (fake) red rose around, and wore a tag with the name of the person that they represented. Past students who had died. The tag had the student's picture, death/birth dates, etc. 13 students "died" today. They had to remain silent for the rest of the day after they "died". The committee actually wanted to get a casket to put on display at lunch, but they couldn't.

Very sad :(

Our school does this every year during prom. They usually switch the grades, like sometimes it will be 9-12 then the next year 11-12. No idea why. We were suppose to see it yesterday BUT it was cancelled thanks to the rain. They were also thinking of cancelling since 2 students from our school died from a car crash a few monthes ago and people are still sensitive about that..

yeahh a fake car crash came and people reinacted it (seniors)
and then like all week we had speakers come

like someone who killed someone, someone who had been injured as a result, someone who had lost a son, etc. of drunk driving

it was like prom week.
